Pt. Venkatesh Kumar began his marathon 3-hour performance at the FEA-curated morning concert, Prabhati, with a beautiful rendition of Raag Komal Rishabh Asavari. He was accompanied by Bharat Kamat on tabla and Ajay Joglekar on harmonium. Tanpuras and vocal support were provided by Shivraj Patil and Ramesh Kolkunda.

When I listen to this, I am reminded of emotions that seem so familiar, so sublime, so obvious, but at the same time completely inexplicable. There is simply no way to put these feelings into words. Music truly is the direct translation of all of our innermost emotions.

Listening to Panditji for past two months without missing a single day and it enhanced my time of riyaz. His voice heals. Can’t explain I feel so connected to Panditji. Heaven is his voice only.

Excellent presentation by Panditji as usual. This is my favorite raag and I enjoyed it all. The same raag was sung beautifully by Late Pt. Kashinath Bodas and you music lovers should try to find it and enjoy divine experience.

Initially i had feeling like ... how can someone listen/love this music, now I am get connected to it ...sometimes i even cry ...while listening ...and thinking why would I have not been understood it earlier, it connects soul directly to God, nature, origin, Vibration from this music is similar like chanting Mantras.

Recently during a program by Pandit Jasraj in Hyderabad, Panditji walked in plain white kurta pyjama and his head was covered with a woolen shawl because it was cold here during that time of the year. Nobody noticed him except for few. He came in simply sat on a seat offered to him and then his chance to perform came. Started with Kaunsi Kanada and rest as they say is history.......

Ustad Amir Khan (Indore), Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan (Patiala), Ustad Sharafat Hussain Khan (Agra), Pandit Bhimsen Joshi (Kirana), Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur (Jaipur) stand very tall, all with solid, deep voices. Now Gwalior is added, he is in prime form. Even his disciples are spell-bound.

No, his singing is not modeled after Pt. Bhimsen Joshi's singing at all...the tonal quality gives that idea. His training is entirely different and the use of gamaks is just not there in his singing while the former is gamak-pradhan gayaki.
