Venting Portable AC unit through wall to outside

This video shows the process of how to vent a portable AC unit to the exterior wall of a stucco house. In my research online for how to do this.m, I didn't come up with anything that would work for my scenario. This is a great option for anyone who doesn't have a unit they can use. Just adapt to your hose size. I'm not a pro RU-vid person so pardon the quality. Lol.

Good job. One thing you could do to your setup is route a drain hose from your air conditioner unit outside. It would make your outside plants happy.

Make sure that you are aware that most systems now are the two hose systems…and this specific method will not work unless you cut an opening in your wall and outside..more than twice the size of this solution.

Make sure you are not venting hot air into your wall, it looked like even though you did succeed in getting the flaps to work there is still an unsealed gap letting air into the wall. You did say that you were going to do more to this project so I hope making an uninterrupted pipe of some kind was included. Nice video however.

Hopefully that tube thing is completely flush with the outer wall so that condensed air doesn’t travel up walls and create mold, but it looks like you did it pretty well; nice job.

Madam, you must be sure that the metal flange butts up tight to the exterior vent and it must be sealed to prevent moisture from the AC exhaust being blown into your wall that will cause serious moisture damage and build up of dangerous mould!

How often does a portable A/C needed drained of water?
@aleasah
@aleasah 5 лет назад
That really varies on the level of humidity in your room it's being used, which also depends on where you live and how often you run it. Mine has a light that comes on when it's time to drain it.
@Marc.Lanting
@Marc.Lanting 4 года назад
you don't have to drain the ac.the water is going out with the outside hose when its running.the water is also cooling the condensor so you get a better performance of the ac.In case of a verry high humudity it can happend that you must drain the ac.

@aleasah
@aleasah 5 лет назад
I couldn't honestly tell you. I don't think its going to make a huge difference because the sound is from the unit itself, not the hose. Its is not super nosey. I installed this in my treatment room and I just make sure and turn it on high about an hour before I have a client and then put it on low during our session. It's not disruptive. High is louder though.

What is so strange with these kits that they put on the ground like a heating system, my logicly says it should be cooling from the sealing.......why? Heat goes up for a heating it sucks cool air from down and the air goes up....and cool air goes down so it shoul suck warm air from the sealing so the control unit should be at the bottum, i punt it on a cabinet table so middle high , otherwise i cannot read the contol unit.... Am i crazy? Cheers..

No, portable AC is not near the ceiling in a room. You are thinking of mini split systems that are popular outside of the US. They are way more efficient than these, but they aren't portable and are alot more expensive.

What do you use to cover the hole in the winter?
@aleasah
@aleasah 4 года назад
I live in Southern California so it stays in year round so far. But I have a round metal cap for the duct that I keep in case I want to move it to storage and use a space heater instead. If it gets very cold where you are, you could just add some insulation to that cap before putting it on.

@aleasah
@aleasah 5 лет назад
I'm not sure what you are referring to with this comment. The entire point of the video was to show how it was vented to the outside. There is exactly zero hot air that comes inside.
@briennewton6881
@briennewton6881 5 лет назад
@@aleasah With a one hose portable a/c unit the air from your room, the same air that the unit just cooled down is sucked in across the condenser and is blown out through the hose. You are literally sucking air that you paid to cool and blowing outside. A 2 house unit cools the condenser with outside air. Not air from the room.

@aleasah
@aleasah 2 года назад
Yes, you are correct. I hired a licensed handyman/contractor to cut through the walls of our home so I didn't do anything stupid to damage it myself. He had never installed an AC unit in this way and was following my instructions. I asked him to make sure everything in my plan made sense and would work ok and he agreed. I would never recommend to anyone to cut a hole in the walls of their home on their own. You could hit electrical, pipes etc. Sorry, he does not have a RU-vid channel or video explaining this. He's in his late 70's/early 80's. Best of luck to you.

Hi Theresa! I don't have a link, my licensed handyman purchased it from Amazon. It is just a fairly standard dryer vent for outside. He couldn't get it from Lowes or Home Depot because they don't carry 6" ones. This AC unit has a 6" hose. If yours is a 4 or 5", you can find something similar in the store. Otherwise, Amazon to the rescue! It was much easier for me to hire someone to cut out the hole in the wall for me since I dont have the tools or skills for that. Then I handled the rest as the video shows! Good luck to you and hope your project works out for you and you stay cool!

Awesome! Only, just be aware that the link you sent is for a 4" hose. And I'm not sure it has the bird grate on it under the flaps. My handyman told me he spent about $18 on mine so I think I found it here for you. But it is the 6" hose with the bird grate, that keeps the critters out. Just make sure you get the same diameter size as your hose! Here is the link I found: 6"Deflecto Vent Cover With BIRD GUARD www.amazon.com/dp/B0001IMLO4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_OAcPBb9S6XF47
