In early December 2013, we took Venture to the Channel Islands, the closest of which is only 20 miles from the sprawling city of Los Angeles. Despite their proximity to this major population center and the busy ports of Long Beach and LA, these islands are uninhabited by humans and are protected wildlife sanctuaries. The weather can be unpredictable and extreme as we found out during our short cruise.

I love the vid and how he talks about the Santa Ana Winds and how they can pick up jurastically, but he overintesified it a bit, I know all 8 islands like the back of my hand especially these main 4 islands, and I go their to fish on my grandpas boat, what I'm saying is that we've seen worse weather, especially rescently

Excellent film. Prisoner’s on Santa Cruz is great. Avalon too, but next time I’ll try Two Harbors at Catalina.

I am bemused to why Boat International has never featured you ?? . Maybe in a issue i missed ? . Do you agree that the industry and owners should look at the attracting those who wouldn't consider a holiday on a yacht as possible alternative to current destinations . I saw an article on the BI Facebook page of an owner saying she would like to see more families . What families was she talking about those who earn a combined wage that couldn't even afford a weeks charter never mind a day . She should realise that only the top 10 percent are able afford to afford the current rates . And imo anyone that is considering chartering a Yacht ..you're videos provide the best experience of what a yacht vacation can bring . Did the fuel costs vary from port to port .. when needing to refuel ? How much fridge / freezer space in galley does she have .

These Islands should still belong to Mexico. They were never In the treaty of the Ivasion by the USA.
@12cunow
@12cunow 7 лет назад
No they should not- Texas revolted - asked for the USA to help - we did - conquered Mexico - took over Mexico City - decided it wasn't worth the trouble - called the Rio Grande the new border and gave what was left of Mexico - back to Mexico - If we had kept it - there would not have been all the crime there is today.

Mexico should probably worry about taking care of what they already have before worrying about having more land to be run by drug lords.

Thanks Tony for another enjoyable tour. I await your next Venture. What caused the anchor to bend? Were you able to fix it or did you need a new one?
@FlemingYachts
@FlemingYachts 10 лет назад
The anchor is a very good one and we believe the shank bent because, even with one engine ahead and one astern, full rudder and bow thruster it was impossible to bring the boat in line with the anchor chain when recovering the anchor which was well imbedded. This put a huge sideways pull on the shank until the anchor broke free. I don't blame the anchor at all which did a great job of holding us. It cannot be fixed without weakening it and and, sadly, will have to be replaced

What must it feel like to look down and see these beautiful marine mammals swimming alongside your boat?? The dolphins are so lovely. I can only dream ...
@briane173
@briane173 2 года назад
The Catalina Channel is populated by far more dolphin than there were when I was a kid. You were lucky to see two or three lone wolves out there playing around our boat; you were more likely to see flying fish than dolphins. Now, entire pods surround boats as they traverse the channel.

That hollow shank Anchor or it might be lead filled is a disappointment they advertise that thing as if it was the Cat's meow it's nice to see it tested in real World condition's.
@FlemingYachts
@FlemingYachts 6 лет назад
Actually that was an early version of that anchor. The manufacturer had already beefed up the shank by the time of our incident and replaced the anchor free of charge even though I had not asked - nor expected - him to do so. It is an Ultra anchor and highly recommended.
@ladygardener100
@ladygardener100 6 лет назад
goodness me, I should think they would, they could recal all the anchors, but it would be short term financial catastrophy.
