I miss these guys so much Noki, Bob, and Don Wilson were three of my dearest friends and I worked with the ventures for about 8 years as their personal photographer on the way to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
In the 80's I lived in San Luis Obispo, CA. I worked with Pacific Productions bringing bands to local venues. I was on the board of directors, and the official photographer, so I had wonderful experiences in the green room and back stage. One of our main shows was the Ventures .
Wow, I'm not going to lie but I'm so jealous, in a very very RocknRoll way. I never met them but I miss them very much as well. If you listen to today's music (not all of it of course) you understand. An honor to have met you here...
I wish that I had all their 45's that I back in the sixties. I still listen to them all the time. I am now 75 years young. listening t0 the Ventures will take your mind off all the troubles we have today in the world.. Be safe everyone.
Have a lot of their LPs . Saw them in person at the Tacoma Park ballroom east of Aberdeen SD in the early 60's. At break, Wilson and Bogle sat with us at our table. Gave them a cocktail (whiskey sour) and Wilson said ; whoa, you burnt this one. We asked them to play Pipeline and were told they couldn't 'cause it belonged to the Chantays. Good memories.77 years young!
Yes sir you are absolutely right. I am 40 years old but I always love to listen The Ventures..the melody of the ventures will never be faded away from my heart.
I agree, I bought the "Hawaii Five-O" 45 with my paper route money. The B side was something like "Soul Breeze". Now that I have an adult daughter that's a singer/songwriter and vinyl freak, I wish I still had that to hand down to her.
My dad bought me a Fender Jaguar in 1963, when I was 13. I was fanatical about playing and did little else. I formed a band called "The Apaches" and used the money to put myself through school. Apache was our theme song. I learned every Ventures song I heard. Loved them then, and love them now. I'm still playing that Jaguar and Ventures songs. Thanks to God, my dad and of course, The Ventures. Shalom, gw
Yes...great stuff. Love the intricate guitar touch and the happy look on their faces whilst playing. 77 yrs of age a few was away for me. This music keeps we young...🎉
Wonderful story! My parents in 63 bought me a Kay electric at age 13 and I chose this song for competition at a music festival at age 15. Still play every day at 71. Thanks Dad and Mom!!
I love the childish and angelic look on Peter frampton' s face. He was simply a child enjoying his best toy with a bunch of his favorite friends. How many people among us have capitalized such rare and precious moment?
+love4spiders I guess I qualify - when I was 24 I played 2 years with jazz giants Art Pepper, Tommy Gumina & drummer Jimmy Smith, when I was 34 I played with John Lee Hooker & Robert Cray, another amazing time, proudest time in my life was in '72 doing shows on bases and sitting on hospital beds in Vietnam for the USO - I was 21.
I love The Ventures since 70's. I've never seen them in reality and it's amazing, that we can watch here on RU-vid whatever we want...This special video from Apache is really wonderful. I totally agree love4spiders, Peter Frampton looks like an angel. But it's a real pleasure to watch all of the musicians in this clip. I took me a Whiskey and it brought me back to this time, when we were young....
To me the Ventures were and always will be best of the best. They had a class all their own. When you grow up listening to their music as a child and listen to them now,it gets emotional. For me it's because my Dad loved to hear them play. He bought every album they made. Then when 4track players first came out He would record them so he could listen in the car. He would play the Ventures and Roy Orbison over and over on a long trip. Wow memories are great.
The Ventures are all-time. Great hat! Terrific cover. They respect the Shadows original while, superb musicians that they are, adding their own unique touch. I venture to say, "Well done, lads!"
One of those timeless tunes that are still good to hear so many years after being released. The skill with which it is played is nice to appreciate when one hears it.
1:39 to 1:52 is a pure magical, musical moment and the look on Frampton's face is priceless. Very few are music videos that show the absolute joy of playing a song. Are there better versions of this song? Sure. The Shadows version is the same magical moment because I'm not talking about favorites I love them both. It's the JOY of this song I refer to, thank you for posting.
This Ole' Texas boy couldn't help to notice the lead guitarist, Nokie Edwards is wearing a Western hat & Boots, Yee_haa What amazing talent. Loved it all my life!!! R.I.P. Nokie Edwards
I agree! Good old fashioned Rock & Roll! LOVED THEM, still do! I loved this song the first time I heard it, I was just a kid! LOVED IT! Must have been the Cherokee in me!
@@LesD9 That's very true. Different versions by Bert, The Shadows, Jörgen Ingmann and The Ventures and probably quite a few others? Written by Jerry Lorden and recorded earlier by Bert. It's a great piece that has truly stood the test of time. We think of The Shadows when Apache is mentioned because it was such a huge hit for them.
From time to time I set all day long and go over the great music we had, and 50 years later, the same ole thrill and chills as I remember just being there.
it would of been by the shadows.. or the man who originaly done it Bert weedon.... fella who wrote it gave it tothe shadows for their big hit of 1960.. 5 weeks in the top 10
So great to take a trip back to the good old days with the GREAT VENTURES.....LIFE WAS BETTER THEN......tunes just killer!..From a little farm town in Wisconsin we all wondered where TACOMA was!!!!
To anyone who wonders how great the ventures were and are, seriously watch this video, notice 1 how excited peter frampton is to be up there, and 2 how he watches noki make magic with his guitar....
Yes you're right, I was in a band in the 60s I had a Fender Stratocaster and the other guitarist had a Fender Telecaster of course the bass was a Fender as well.
FRAMPTON HAVING A GREAT TIME WITH THE "OLD GUYS" !! HE HAS RESPECT AND FOR THAT I RESPECT HIM ! VIVA LOS VENTURES... THEY TOOK US ON MANY MUSICAL AD-VENTURES !!
This was the MUSIC we had back in the 60's! REAL music that had a good beat and rhythm, not like this hip slop and rap crap that the kids today call "music". I have every album I could find of this group and never get tired of listening to them. I love their version of "Morgan".
I just Love all the tunes of the Ventures 😊❤their singing guitars IS Kult..brings back fond memories of my childhood..my music..my Life.I am now 70 years old and these Evergreens are indellible..l❤ve IS Sharing..❤❤
The Ventures version is closest to Jorgen Ingeman's, which I think is the best. What I like most about this video is how much fun everyone is having with Peter Frampton in there and he is like a kid in a toy store. It is very cool when groups like this allow guests to play with them and they all sync together. They are all great musicians !!
This is such a lovely track no matter who plays it. Great Guitar work by the legends Peter Frampton and Nokie Edwards. Thanks for sharing. Kind regards from India.
Must be nice to have a musical talent. The only talent I have for music is to appreciate other people making it. I can only dream what it would be like to not only be able to make music this wonderful, but to actually make a living at it. I've heard that if you find something you really love to do you'll never work a day in your life. These guys love what they do and it shows. Thank you for posting this for those of us who can't make music to enjoy.
Music is more about feeling that kwoldege, you can write a good song using only two chords. The most important thing about it is passion. The Ramones didn't know how to play when they started and now they are one of the most influencial bands on earth. Just pick up a guitar and have fun.
Nah. The only instrument I can play is the radio. But I know what I like. I told Junior year high school English teacher one day that if she wanted me to appreciate poetry, she needed to put lead, rhythm and bass guitars and a set of drums with the poem. I still might not understand what the author was tryin to say, but I might like it. Without the music, I certainly wasn't gonna like it. That wasn't one of the best days I ever had in high school. :)
Apache!!!!! Hermosoooo.....todas sus melodias son bellas...pipeline,apache, slaughter calle 10, guinza lights, manchurian, bimbo, let's go, walk sleep, all of they are so wonderful!!!! Love them.....The Venturez for ever and ever
OMG, they are so awesome, even after all these years. I grew up listening to 'Walk Don't Run,' 'Pipeline', 'Wipeout' and countless other great numbers played by the Ventures and the Shadows as well. These numbers will be evergreen classics. I love them all. :))
EXCELENTE TEMA. " APACHE ". ME TRAE GRATOS RECUERDOS DE MI JUVENTUD. " RECUERDO EL FILM" HOGUERAS DE ODIO " Y JACK PALANCE ERA UN BRAVO APACHE. MUY BUEN RECUERDO Y EXCELENTE INTERPRETACIÓN. (TRANSLATE. FROM CHILE)
Such an awesome group. All they needed was their guitars and fingers. Other bands tried to follow the Ventures. Other bands failed once they opened their mouths. As for old school, this is still fresh!
Learned this evening that Don Wilson, the guitarist playing the Fender Jazzmaster passed away. Frampton is the only musician in this clip still with us.
The Ventures kick but no matter who they play. Nothing can touch this group.. never was more eloquence epressed on guitar and drums without words. LeGENDS
Good tune of which I had the record but lost it somewhere. And it is nice to hear it again played with that skill the Ventures had to play the electric guitar. One of my favorites of the early sixties and that is still very good to hear and enjoy whilst recalling my long-gone youth.
I love the Ventures, saw them in concert, about15 or more years ago. But my favourite version of "Apache" is by Jorgen Ingman, probably because I heard it first by Him. Great to hear the Ventures version though, Thanks.
This tune was written by Jerry Lordon for the Shadows, the Shadows Apache is the original. They were the first band to feature lead Rhythm and Bass Guitar when they started out in 1958. Everyone else followed them, most Guitarists in the 60's were influenced by them, particular Hank Marvin on lead. Shadows true legends of popular music, every single went straight to number one.
Have heard BOTH the versions and many would agree with me that the Shadows version of Apache WAS BETTER and demonstrated the unique sound of the Fender Stratocaster on an instrumental, something unheard of in UK then. Jorgen Ingman's version with the whizzing sound of arrows in the background was more gimmicky. Of course in the pre-Beatle's US prejudice against British artistes, Jorgen Ingman's version of Apache sold more copies than the Shadows version in the BIGGER US market. Bruce Welch was to lament in his biography LIFE IN THE SHADOWS that it made him sick to know that another version of their popular hit APACHE was selling twice as much as their version in the smaller UK/European market.
According to Hank Marvin, he said to Cliff get me a Fender and I'll get you number ones. You had to order one from US back then, cost £300!. Cliff got him one ...and the rest is history!
I had the good fortune of being with Nokie (the dude with the hat) in studio and during a couple of casual backstage jams. The guy had a lot more in his guitar arsenal than ever really got showcased in any of the Venture's recordings. In other words, he could play the living crap out of that guitar. LOL
Nokie Edwards is a very versatile guitarist...can switch at ease between bass and lead.....Without Nokie, the Ventures would not have been that powerful and popular...
This is a little different from the version played by the Shadows, because, as you'll notice, Nokie Edwards makes a sound with his guitar strings that invokes an image of Indians shooting arrows with their bows.
Most people today wouldn't even know that it was him playing the red Strat! I guess that he was happy to play other legends of the same basic era that he played in although they were older than him at the time. Most of those guys are dead now.
I chose this for my solo at agd 15 at National Muskc Festival on stage in front of judges! scared like a little indian but scored a triple AAA. and a dinky little trophy I wish I still had at age 71. Still play every dsy but NEVER go on stage.....never lost that fear. Thanks Doug Torres my teacher who played this with me.
All I know is you were hearing some great music while still in the womb . I used to put my headphones on my stomach so my baby could hear the music. She loved the Moody Blues, she would calm right down lol . She was born in 1976 .
