Kedaragowla is almost similar to Aathana ( 29 Dheera Shankaraabharanam janya) wherein Nishadam is N3/Kaakali Nishadham instead of N2/Kaisiki Nishadham in this Kedaragowla! Its not uncommon to see many vocalists while singing songs in Aathana moves to kedaragowla unknowingly due to this close proximity!!! Kedaragoula evokes Shringara, karuna and bhakthi rasas, and extremely beautiful to listen in slow paced renditions. Surutti is another raga, with same notes; but having vakra notes in the avarohanam. Kedaragoula can be said to be a combination of Madhyamavathi (arohanam) and Harikambhoji (avarohanam) notes. Here the popular Thyagaraja kriti - Venu gaana Loluniga" praising Lord Krishna ( rare kriti of Thyagaraja) is presented so melodiously by Chembai ....Wonderful rendition of the charanam with a vinyaasam and swarakalpana in extempore.........no words to praise on Chembai's rendition......pranams to the great soul......
