The joke with the newscasters is harmless because 1. they don't really understand it. They are older and aren't around it, don't know many people who like the style. 2. News shows like this always do some sort of improv-like comedy sketch thing. (IMO it's stupid, but so very common. idk the reason for it but that's just how it is.)

I don't understand what she doesn't "condone"... Her mother didn't tell venus to dress up more doll like, and Venus herself already looks like a doll! Thats what so many people dont get! My issue with her is that she pretends like people in Japanese pop culture, which is not how people in Japan really act. Its fine to know the language and culture, but the thing is she only knows the POP culture and language.

+x C y n d y x Camera angles and good lighting also help. Usually live tv and location filming have very strong illumination that add too much contrast and make people look more chubby. But at home or in a photo studio, you can make softer light that can show your features without exaggerating much. Also the camera angle: higher anlgles that are closer to the face would make you look slimmer and big-eyed.

I've always wanted to go to Harajuku in japan where all of this is very very common. The streets of harajuku are filled with many young girls in Harajuku fashions. Venus' style is also only one of the popular ones and there are much crazier styles out there.

What they're not saying out loud is they think dressing up like a doll and becoming a "living doll" is inherently sexual and that's gross. Barbie dolls, porcelain dolls, rag dolls, which is what these minors are dressing as, are made for 7yr olds. There are plenty of sex toys out there, but barbie dolls are not one of them. Venus is so busy with her work as Venus Angelic. So Venus mentions that she is home schooled. Judging from her young age, her situation is unnatural and could have negative impact on her life later. Girls grow old someday, and Venus won`t be able to a living doll forever. Venus and her mother should think about Venus`s life after being the living doll period.

There are quite a lot of people who do that in their free time for fun though. People are only against Venus because she has risen to success at a young age, something many people have not had the opportunity to do. It's not because they dislike the style themselves, as many westerners know nothing of the way in which she dresses. It's because they are jealous of her success and will only feel better about themselves if they try to bring her down. Many people are also jealous of her flawless skin, so they tell her it is wrong to stray from the normal look for young girls. I prefer the dolly look in Harajuku and Shibuya, but many people in the west prefer the normal look for young girls. Because they do not understand the dolly look, it must be a bad thing in their minds. Westerners are brainwashed into thinking that if young girls are not slutty and showing their skin all the time, then they are not normal people.

I would venture to say it's not necessarily about looking like a doll, it's about mimicking the neotenic/pedophilic appearance of a child. If it were exclusively about mimicking a doll's appearance it would not be coupled with affectations and mannerisms which are characteristically infantile.
