@trentbishop7793nope, it starts eating from the moment it closes completely, when the insect triggers the hair in the mouth over and over while trying to get free
Fun fact: a bug will need to touch two of the hairs inside the leaf for it to close. Then, the plant will only remain closed and initiate digestion if hairs are touched again within the next 20 seconds or so. This is to prevent the leaves from getting triggered by random stuff like drops of water. Digesting a bug takes energy, and the plant would have a lower chance of thriving if it wasted that energy.
@@zerotolerance9004 All the traps can close three times before the leaf dies (with rare exceptions reaching 4 times), so it's normal. Don't worry too much about it, as long as your plant is sprouting new leaves, it's healthy. (Just to be sure tho : You do use distilled/rain water right ? Cause otherwise tap water will kill the plant.)

The worm is going to wiggle around inside there until it fully closes, then it will start secreting what's basically stomach acid. So after a day or two all that will pop out as an exoskeleton. Please do not wonder how the stomach acid gets inside of it, I thought about that and it horrifies me to this day.
