A radar lock would warn the aircraft as the radar frequency would change. letting ir manpads engage reduces warning to attacking aircraft.

The larger drones might have counter-measures or threat detection but the smaller ones would not..not alot of room to add more equipment + there is the added weight and cost per unit increase..

Did you hear that all of NATO has integrated systems to do this as well as linking all arms in an integrated command & control system for the last 25 years. When I was mortar platoon officer in the 1980's and 1990's we literally received and sent command & control fire control information from army, navy, space & airforce sources. NATO started an extensive R&D project to integrate all sparate and disparate sources amongst all the NATO member countries and our allies. This paid huge dividends, look at how pathetic Russian logistics, tactical and strategic planning is, and this just one country's army, NATO coordinates all of our members and allied countries concurrently. If their is a nut and bolt in the system, they have a NATO ID and are designed according to a NATO engineering and logistics specification. I am curious, other than oil & gas and weapons, what is Russia actually known for. Remember, Stalin killed more people than Hitler or Mao ever did. Where has this ever happened with a NATO country?

One dont need to tak out a target to prevent it from doing its mission. All you have to do is force it to go defensive. When a jet is defensive it is not attacking.

@@toffa66 it's not a showstopper for attack aircraft, especially the multi-role aircraft of the newer generation. It could be used in lower level conflicts, but it's limited role and production level will keep the costs high compared to its possible targets.

Most countries have forgotten how to fight low tech and now use expensive missiles. No drone will get pass the good old flak gun cloud of sharpnels directed at its path.

Pfffft no they won't Held AA launchers or manpads have existed since the 70s and these so called "new" ones are nothing out of the ordinary actually And they are no better than a big mounted AA battery system such as the S300 or Pantisir which have all failed in doing so , And like most manpads , This would probably be useful against helicopters but just that.

They can reduce the effectivness of some drone types (like predator or hermes) but against mini drones and so called loitering projectiles they would be ineffective.

@@rdg665 That is just untrue. Depends on drone type. Pantsir was actually pretty effective despite the fact that loitering projectiles didnt even exist when it was designed. Anyways manpads would be effective against larger observation drones.
