This video is presented by City Of Houston - Utility Customer Service. In this video we cover, how to locate your water meter, how to read your bill, how to determine if you have a leak and how to fix a leak.
I don't live in Houston but had to look at my meter today because the number on the bill was wrong. Definitely something to check if you get a high water bill.
Maybe I missed something, you say shut off your supply at the meter and then fill a 10 gall. bucket? How do you fill a bucket with your water shut off?
So, at 4:18 the meter should read 0347 50 0 .... as one complete revolution of the sweep hand means 10 gallons of water through the meter. And wouldn't your sweep hand be at the same position as it started if 10 gallons was used? (give or take the 2%) so you'd be best to read the numbers?
You take a lot of baths or showers, wash a lot of clothes and dishes, and flush your toilet a bunch of times. Or you have a toilet running all the time.
In Sacramento, the new meters are hidden below a locked cover plate. We are not allowed to see it. Oroville Dam is a disaster, it's been left to decay after years of warnings putting our funded water infrastructure and human lives at risk, yet the State Legislature and governor spends over $20 Billion, between $12---2400.00 per residence, to install water meters. This reeks of corruption.
And now, tiered water prices are legal. We have a big yard. But we pay double the price at the higher tier. Are we supposed to not water our yard at all? Are we supposed to only grow California Natives?
@@beckysimpson3364 I understand. I have a very tiny yard, as do my neighbors, but there are lots of trees and plants, mini lawns, yet we have to let them cook or the bill goes up. While we, and the generations before us, paid for and built a fantastic water management infrastructure, under liberal Democrat and RINO management they have diverted, sabotaged and created all the chaos we face. Both our state and ferderal governments are populated and controlled by the mentally disturbed and criminally insane.
...again, the water meter box, the meter, the meter stop and all plumbing inside the meter box dose not belong to the customer. If the customer wants to shut the water off to their property, they need a house valve. If the customer wants a meter reading, they need to contact their water purveyor.
@@richperez5179 The house valve is just before the meter, it is there in case you want to shut off the water to the house. Anything after the meter is yours and you are responsible for it. At least in the state that I live in. We are allowed to take a reading anytime we want. Now if they use the digital meters and the unit is sealed or locked, then you can't get to it or mess with it.
