In this video, Verifying Gold with the Sigma Pro! I verify several different gold coins with the Sigma Metalytics Precious Metals Verifier Pro. It has been a valuable tool for me as I go through a good volume of gold and silver purchases. I’m trying to decide how my local shops would react if I came in with a sigma. 😂 I guarantee the old guy would say, “Well I guess I have to raise the price now that we know it’s real.” I can hear him saying it! 🤣 Fun to watch all the same!

They welcomed it, and wanted to see it since they only have the older version. So everything I buy is double-verified! Funny comment: “now that I know it’s real.”

If they object to it that would be a big red flag! No reason for them not wanting the transaction to be absolutely fair unless they have something to hide. I am guessing he would be curious to see it work and would want to purchase one after seeing it work.

This is smart. Gotta save up for one. Just one fake gold coin would make the cost of the machine worth it. Wished there were more competition to lower the price to mass market

Yeah that’s the only downside, the cost. Still for the volume that I do, very necessary!

@Vertical Stacker great video, I need to get a Sigma Metalytics myself. That’s pretty cool that you take it in to the coin shop. That would have prevented me from buying a fake ASE earlier this month.

I knew one LCS guy with a very expensive XRF machine who charged people to examine metals. He went out of business. With the Sigma, it’s not so expensive that you feel like you need to charge - you just let your customers bring in their stuff.

@@VerticalStacker I like the Pro Mini. I think that is the one I would get. It's not as good as the Pro, but it's much cheaper. Do you know if the update they did on the pro is just a software upgrade or if they modified the machine itself?

None of which I am aware. Ping test, maybe some calipers, but you'd have to know a lot of data in order to know what measurements to look for.

I was just thinking of getting one of these. I only buy from apmex so i'm sure my gold stack legit. But an extra piece of mind goes a long way haha. Is it possible to verify coins with capsules, or do they have to be removed?

The manual says it can read through capsules, and I have done so. I just prefer to read them raw if possible.

my q is how do you verify the machine? is there a certified coin to double check the machine also why do you flip the coin doesn't it read thru the coin also how about 100 oz silver bars?

You should test some fake coins... and see if is detected a fake coin. I am sure it will but just want to see it.

Do you know if anyone tried a fake gold wrapped coin on these machines, i have a maple it shows good on a pro, but fails ring test, its very soft, i can even mark it with my finger nail, feels too soft to soft (may 24k wrapp?)

I have not heard of that before. Fakes are getting harder and harder to detect however without an XRF machine it seems!

No batteries, just a USB type charger on my model. They may have updated it some I purchased mine a couple of years ago

Yes I think they are about 3-4 month behind on production. But yes, if you can get one in the secondary market, might be a good idea!

Marty I think it is designed for coins/bars. XRF machines are much better for jewelry.

@@VerticalStacker not sure how deeply the pro version penerate the silver/gold surface compared to the 2mm level for the normal sigma? u know the exact figure?

@@viperviperpiro The technical sensor specs indicate the large bridge penetrates 12.5 mm GOT (gold over tungsten) and the small bridge penetrates 3.5 mm GOT.
