VERMONT CASTINGS has such awesome wood stoves. Fantastic choices you offer at your store, I'm in Hawaii so donned a wood stove but I've loved watching your channel.
I appreciate all of the videos you guys have put together it has been so helpful. I have a question about the time it takes to get to the point where you can engage the combustor (500ish deg) I know that is dependent on the wood and some other variables but was hoping you could give me a range with your experience. Hoping to be burning wood in a red Encore next season! Thanks again.
Yeah it totally would! We ship all over the country. Go to our website and talk to an online sales person to learn more. Embersliving.com Thanks for the comment themeshoots
Thanks for the great video, I just bought the dauntless on Feb 2023 and I still get smoke from the top when I am reloading and also wondering if the the flex burn works
Was anyone else put off buying it by him saying “ it’s the sort of stove which reminds you of your grandpa?”. I had been thinking of getting a vermont encore but not so sure now, as the comment suggests it might not help sell the house when the time comes. It suggests a younger personm wouldn’t like it.
Wait, wait, wait...ONLY the Defiant has the warming shelves with dragon supports? Why wouldn't they provide that option for the Encore as well? Will they ever?
Is it necessary to “season” this stove with the first burn ? I’ve heard about the first fire being small and the second one a medium fire to somehow season the paint.
Yeah you should season a stove for the first burn. On a new stove you will notice an aroma fro mthe first burn and thats basically just burning off the chemicals used to make it
I just purchased the Intrepid because my house is only 1650 sq feet. I’ve only used it once but I cannot get it to heat up my house that well. Any suggestions??
Nice video, I’m getting a new wood stove for our new house and I’m torn between the VC defiant and the Blaze king king 40. Which would you recommend? The VC is much better looking but that’s second priority with the heat output and longevity being first. I’m heating 3000sf, thanks!
I bought a new defiant a couple months ago. If I put more than 2 pieces of firewood in it, it will run away. It has been over 825° with the air supply damper completely shut. There is no way that I could get over 3 or 4 hour burn times. It seems to constantly be feeding too much air. The ash door is latched. The supply damper closed. I can slow it down some by closing the door to engage the catalyst but then it gets even hotter. I would love to talke with someone from Vermont castings. The dealer seems clueless now and it's impossible to talk with the manufacturer. So much for buying American. Oh ya, the blower quit too! What a waste of $5k! If vermont castings is out there, please reach out to me!
@@rstlr73 yes. They replaced my stove with a new one. Completely different stove. This one can be controlled. I'm also getting longer burn times. As a rule of the thumb, I seem to be getting about an hour of burn time per piece of firewood. I'm not getting 12-16 hour burn times as they advertise but can get 6-8 hours off a full load with a large bed of coals still remaining. I think there was a couple things wrong with the first stove, something not operating correctly with the air control lever and the ash door out of adjustment allowing extra air supply to the fire.
