Those are my home trails. I learned to drive at 13 years old in an 85 toyota puckup on them. We would go from reading to Plymouth, over to Bridgewater, and then to barnard. Before hurricane Irene you could drive a stock toyota through there

At the top of Chataguay road there is a pond and small camping area. Your video showed it but there appear to be barriers at the top with a gate. I’m surprised to see that gated off. Was it done by the ATV folks or the forest service?
Yes it’s national forest for sure. Just surprised to see guardrails up there. Used to be a gate Fish n Game or forest service would randomly open and close. It’s basically an easier trail than the creek bed you fellas went up.
It’s just a roll of door / window screen cut in half and shaped to the back. I used sticky magnets along the hard top / trunk edges and on the screen to connect it. Cheap little diy project.
Great series. I'm heading to Vermont in a couple weeks. Were you guys camping on Green Mountain National Forest the whole time or is there dispersed camping elsewhere in VT?
With a lil bit of practice teaching yourself how to pick the most common locks found on state issued gates, the self restraint to only use it after the state workers clock out for the day, and the respect to leave things better than you found them, ALL of the fire towers in NY are climbable. I heard that from a friend of a friend of another friend though so good luck. PS if you can pick a NY lock then you can pick a VT, CA, or CO lock too. The real secret is not being a dick and leaving any evidence behind🤣🤷
Great video, headed up to VT area this weekend. Also doing Chateauguay & Five corners, although heading down from the north, looked like you started out coming from the south. Didn’t know those ledges around Bridgewater existed. Will need to search around for those, they looked fun. If I can find the alpacas I’m close.
I’ve been on a lot of the same roads you were on. We travel from western New York to Vermont to go wheeling. Best rough roads and trails on the east coast. We were there the last weekend in September and the next stop for us will be the north east kingdom area. I Love the videos because it shows how rugged this part of the country can be. It’s not all built up cites.
I’m honestly not sure. They are marked county roads, just unmaintained. My guess is they would be open, but pretty hard to pass through if they had any substantial snow in them.
Because we take of them, that's our family. When my daughter was born a few years ago she became an eighth generation Vermonter. There's a group of us that go to all the remote cemeteries in the south Woodstock, reading, Plymouth, Bridgewater, and barnard area and remove any downed trees, weedwack the grass, and keep the stones looking nice.
