Verne Gagne vs. Red Bastien 

This match is NOT from the International Amphitheatre as mentioned. It is from Friday, October 31, 1952 at Eagle Hall in Racine, WI. Verne also went over Bobby Nelson and Count (Carl) von Meyer the same day. Two cards were held that day, free in the afternoon and then paid at night. There were 30 bouts in all. This was done in order to tape a bunch of matches for TV. The card was held in Racine because many of the wrestlers wrestled 2 or 3 times and the Illinois State Athletic Commission wouldn't allow it. If you notice, you can hear individual voices from the crowd and a smattering of applause compared to shows that were actually taped at the Amphitheatre.

Saw an interview with Black Jack Mulligan, where he talked about the ringmanship of Red Bastein as being one of the classics. I'd never heard of him. This is good stuff!

Love the matches as a kid the bastien bros vs the fabulous kangaroos/ the Graham bros.

I like when Verne tries for a third flying headscissors takedown, Red ducks and Verne goes out the ring.

Both of these men were wrestling in awa when i first started watching in 69’-70’. Both were faces. Watched them both at Milwaukee auditorium as well and both were OVER bigtime

interesting how in 1952 the sport was so credible when there was blood they didn't try to use it to enhance the reality or drama, but downplayed it perfectly..
