Versatile 420 Combine Harvesting Barley in Alberta 

My family ran one for 36 harvests from when Grandpa bought it new in '67 through '02, after which we finally replaced it. It was an excellent combine for specialty small grains and delivered an exceptionally clean sample compared to other machines. Some of the parts were made quite thin and wore badly, but I remember we purchased another for parts and took it apart. We basically had a parts shelf in the shed from an entire one of these combines in pieces so we always had parts on hand. A relative of ours is a collector and he has it now. It still runs and gets to harvest a little grain every so often.

It's always neat to see an old piece of equipment rolling across the field getting the job done. Stay safe.

First time I've seen one of these working. I vaguely remember when these combines were first advertised. Versatile tried to make a low cost combine but it didn't go anywhere.

Just in case you or anyone out there is interested I have a 1969 model JD 699 cotton picker, high drum in pretty darn good shape. Great for a restoration project. In North Carolina. CHEAP as in got to go and can’t bring myself to take something like this to the scrap yard

Cool old combine, but a reason they weren’t popular. Ih, jd, cockshutt, gleaner literally everyone else had a better combine. Still cool though
