If you use vintage battery-powered pedals, you're familiar with two things: their responsiveness and how quickly the batteries run out. That said, players don't like taking their boards apart to change batteries all the time. With the Vertex Effects Battery Power Supply, it's possible to use your batteries without all of the related hassle. Load the power supply with four 9V batteries, connect to the power inlet, and get rocking! This power supply is intended for use with vintage overdrives, distortions, fuzzes, and wah pedals. But that doesn't mean you can't use select modern pedals. With this power supply on your board, you won't have to tear your pedalboard apart each time a battery dies.

While I personally have zero need for something like this, I do find it to be innovative and cool, especially for players who do like carbon batteries.

Yes...if you're a Bozo like me and forget to unplug your battery pedals or leave your pedalboard turn on by mistake, this is a great way to use batteries in a little more sophisticated way.

I have a question if anyone sees this. So the battery one is portable and autonomous. Is the power supply also or is it plugged into a socket and just directing current. Meaning is it portable, like could you play in the middle of a field with no socket to plug into?..,I think they answered my question.

Thanks. Looks good. . I’ve used cheap batteries and run down ones for years. Looks like a better way to do it. It fattens or changes the bandwidth on a zen drive or ultra phonix type OD, changes in color or whatever happens, to my non-tech ears is not a subtle difference, it’s very noticeable, and I prefer the tone. But everyone has their own preferences on this. I believe many of the legendary cats did this with batteries in pedals for years.

So is the power supply rechargeable? Or, if not can I use rechargeable 9 volt batteries in it?

Hey, Drip N Rip. Thanks for reaching out about the Vertex Effects Battery Power Supply! The goal of this power supply is to provide individual pedals with isolated battery power to get that classic battery “sag” sound. This is ideal for old-school fuzzes, overdrives, distortions and wahs. This power supply is not a rechargeable unit and will require changing batteries out, but it is very efficient and makes swapping batteries a breeze. If you have any other questions feel free to reach out! Thanks and have a great day. Jack Wellington, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 3240, jack_wellington@sweetwater.com

Does this only run on batteries, or can it run off of a wall outlet as well?
@sweetwater
@sweetwater Год назад
Thanks for your message, great question. Yes, this PSU runs off either batteries or wall current. There’s a “battery on/off” switch on the front panel of the device. Please contact us direct with other questions as you have them! Robert Williams, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 2371, robert_williams@sweetwater.com

You just keep getbetter and better, Mason. I'm absolutely considering this Carbon battery power supply. Speaking of Prescription Electronics, any experience w/ the Yardbox?

Probably not the best thing for the Steel String Singer Supreme? Asking because that's my X-mas gift for myself. BTW love the 335.

NO, not that pedal. I already asked Mason about it - it's not a good fit for this.
@VertexEffectsInc
@VertexEffectsInc 3 года назад
No, not for that. For the Dynamic Distortion, T Drive, Tone Secret, Ultraphonix, Ultraphonix HRM, this would be a good power choice.

1 quick question, are these gonna be available for purchase at Sweetwater aswell as pedalboards with hinged risers?? Plz say YES, plz say YES!!! Btw I LOVE THE LATEST VERTEX effects videos, even “what’s on my pedalboard” video.

I was hoping this would be like a GigRig virtual battery, which doesn't require constantly buying new batteries, but still gives you the benefits of using a battery.
@g.w.thurmond3691
@g.w.thurmond3691 3 года назад
The Gig Rig and other simulations only account for 1 variable of many that go into the sound of a battery. It only addresses voltage and addresses it as a constant, not as a something that is sagging and regenerating in real time with your pick attack. In other words, the voltage on a carbon battery is going up and down all the time, and also decreasing in voltage overall from the moment it's being used. Secondly, a virtual battery or SAG has no control for current limiting, which is what happens when the voltage drops, the current spikes way up and creates this voltage/current war the results in a different sound. Again, the Virtual Battery, or SAG control as seen on other power supplies just drops the voltage to a set number, but is linear - no change or fluctuations in real time.

@@g.w.thurmond3691 Thanks for the reply, it's a bummer that dry non-recharge batteries tend to sound the best in fuzz/octavia/boost pedals, but that's just reality.

@@kirabarsmith9353 A battery has a low internal resistance, it is not high impedance as stated in the video. A zinc-carbon battery has an approximate internal resistance of 35 ohms. These "large current spikes" on a pick attack are approximately a 1-3% difference in current between idle. Less during continued playing. You’ll actually notice the same % difference measuring a DC power supply. The voltage sag does not happen as stated on transients, these are very low current devices and the low internal resistance on a battery is not going to affect the voltage due to such a small variation in current draw. This can be calculated with Ohms law but also easily measured using a multimeter with graphing. The Klon is likely the largest mA device with probably a 20-25 mA draw due to the charge pump However, a very linear drain will happen as you use the zinc-carbon battery over time (most evident with something like the Klon) which will account for the only notable change. The sag control will provide the same result. Current limiting is not something that is happening in these pedals.

@@g.w.thurmond3691 I use carbon zinc for most of my drive pedals which happen to be fuzz and fuzz-based pedals. I also have a Virtual Battery and it's pretty much identical to those batteries. It doesn't just drop the voltage. Even with the voltage on max which is the same that a battery outputs, it doesn't sound or feel like a power supply. It feels like a battery. The original virtual battery didn't even have the sag control.

I'm sad to say Sweetwater may lose a customer over this. I'm an EE and there is so much snake oil in this video. It's clear why there is no actual quantifiable data presented, because there is none. In this case, perception has become reality. All these claims are easily measured with test equipment along with an Audio Precision audio analyzer. The white noise is likely unrelated to being powered by the power supply. There would be too much speculation to make a claim given it's a switch-mode power supply and who knows if you created a ground loop with how everything is wired. Does no one at Sweetwater check these claims with qualified individuals?

Really dumb idea in a world that’s in trouble because of waste and mining. For what, a tone that a handful of people can tell the difference? All for the mighty $$
