For the people using newer versions of blender: the "Vertex Color" menu is now renamed to "Color Attributes"

Additionally, the menu for creating a Color Attribute requires you to pick a color. Don't forget to also make that one orange, otherwise the things that are colored orange may end up as the default black color instead. I found out the hard way. It was very confusing when I got to the step that said black objects still need properties assigned, and there were some with properties assigned but were still black.

Hello everyone, Please note in the new version of Blender "Vertex Color" property is now "Color Attributes". It works in the same way as shown in the tutorial. In case there is any problem setting up vertex paint, I have uploaded a new step-by-step image format guide. It shows the main settings and how to fix any issues like black objects, vertex painting not working that may happen. Thank you! Thank you! Here are some things you can try: 1. Switch viewport shading to material preview mode. (Top right corner, 3rd round button) 2. Press Z and select material preview from the pop-up menu. 3. Another way to show vertex paint is in the top right corner again in viewport shading, click the small arrow. In the color category select Attribute. Hopefully one of these should work.

hi.. why my character's whole eyes are rotating instead of just pupil changing the direction.....?,....i just wanna know why,,,,,,,
@Farrukh3D
@Farrukh3D Год назад
Hi, it is because of the shader. It is attached to the whole eye object. If you need only pupil part to move, you can make first duplicate eye, delete faces of the mesh other then pupil part. Keep the pivot point same as the eye so rotation is correct. Other way is apply mirror modifier and separate both eye meshes. This is a simple eye shader and has some limits to control everything. Hope you get idea. Thanks.

Hello, thank you very much for this tutorial. I've read all the comments, but I don't think I've found a solution for my problem. I'm on blender 4.0, and I can't see the colors I've applied in vertex paint mode when I'm in "material preview", but I can see them when I'm in "solid" mode. I've been working on this file for a long time, so the idea that I've ticked something that disturbs the display can't be ruled out.
@Farrukh3D
@Farrukh3D 8 месяцев назад
Hi, Thank you for your comments and feedback. The vertex paint colors not showing in the material preview is due to shader node setup or the name of the color attribute property not same for all objects or is different. Kindly check or better to test in a new empty clean file to see if vertex painting is working or not. Then append your model in it. I have a pinned comment step by step guide attached as well. Hopefully it should work.

Hello! I am on Blender 3.4.1 where "Vertex Color" is now "Color Attributes". Every time I plug in the color attribute node to the base the head, tongue, and nose go all black. I noticed there are additional options when doing add "Color Attributes" and one of those is that there is a color block and that is set to Black. I don't know if this has something to do with? Is there anything I should specifically be doing when adding the "Color Attributes" in the Object Data Properties with the new options? Also is it okay if it stays black? I saw your response to someone else with a comment similar but i'm still a little confused and nothing has been working. Thank you!
@Farrukh3D
@Farrukh3D Год назад
Hello, Yes, Color attribute is the new one. The black color is normal as it is the default color. One thing to check is that all objects should have a color attribute property and same name with same material. If it is not added then vertex paint will not work on those objects and remain black. As many people have shared this issue before, I have now made a new step-by-step guide for setting up vertex paint in an image format. Hopefully, it should be helpful. Please let me know if there is still any issue. Thank you! Link for steps for vertex paint. drive.google.com/file/d/1ruA0e_7_YW3-AZAvscYwpOJy5vbqZj_f/view?usp=share_link

@Farrukh3D
@Farrukh3D Год назад
For black color issue, If the same name for the vertex attribute property for all objects is correct then in the shader editor as well check if the same name is assigned to the vertex node (Now known as color attribute node). Both places have to use same name otherwise it won't work. Apply only one material for all the sculpt objects that will use. Test to fill the object with shift+k. Switch the material preview as well or change the render engine to cycles. Even though it should work in Eevee.

Erasing color directly is not possible. For that, you will have to set up multiple vertex nodes for every different color in the shader editor. You can either switch to flat view, select a color and paint it over with base or save colors in the palette you want to use and then paint over parts.

Thank you! There are some ways you can try. First you can simply place some 3d object or a plane if front so it covers the tree part. It will reflect that instead of a tree. You can also rotate the hdri map angle so trees are on the side or use a different similar hdri with no trees. One option is to create a part of simple 3d room wall window in front and use hdri with no trees. If your tree is a 3d object then you can disable it to not to show in render. I hope you get the idea!

In new Blender versions, Vertex Color node is now known as Color Attribute node. You can use that. It works in the same way.
