Today we show two different approaches to boost pedals.
The transparent Vertex Boost MKII and the Benson Germanium Boost.
Both boost your signal but go about it in different ways. Both will also give you a different end result as well.
These simple to use pedals are less about settings and more about placement in your signal chain which will give varied results!
I don't cover all specs / uses in this video as it's more about the sound difference of each pedal. It's worth looking into these pedals in more detail if they interest you! Check out the links below to see more about each one:

i've got both of these pedals on my pedalboard, and i'm a bassist, lol. The Benson boost is the first thing on my pedalboard. Sometimes it just stays on all the time at unity gain to thicken and juice up my tone going into all the pedals. Sometimes I use it as a preset cut when engaged for parts of the song that need to be a little quieter. Sometimes it stays on all the time in a slightly boosted setting just to overdrive od pedals later in the chain and/or the preamp tubes in my amp. The vertex is at the end of the chain mainly being used as a 100 ohm buffer for the long cable run back to the amp. I do use it occasionally with it on and boosting the signal back to the amp just for more boost when the Benson's boost is being absorbed in the overdrive and other pedals. I also do have a volume pedal going into the Vertex volume effect in which makes for a great volume pedal which doesn't affect your core tone. Your guitar doesn't actually run through the volume pedal this way. Both boosts are great in what they both do

very cool!

"Germanium diode" ... no. The Benson is a germanium transistor based boost.

a technical question. Do I get the same functions as the Benson Germanium Boost (green pedal) by setting the Benson germanium fuzz as a clean boost? Both pedals with germanium transistors

Very good question. I have no idea tbh! I haven't spent any time with the fuzz yet (only in my dreams). Definitely a good question for Chris at Benson.

if i only use the vertex pedal WITHOUT a volume pedal. will it still higher my volume?

I use the vertex cause I love my tone and that jack on the end I use for my volume pedal to eliminate tone suck. The benson sounded great but sticking with my vertex.

Nice! The Boost MKII is a clever design. I'm a fan.

Great video! Question for you, in a band setting with another guitar player, I have a vertex boost, TS-9, Catalinbread Epoch boost. Now, I know it’s all about “just try it out and see how it goes” but in your experience, would you rather a Vertex Boost that just boosts clean volume, or the mid-boost in a TS type or Klon type? Thank you!
@GoodwoodAudio
@GoodwoodAudio 2 года назад
haha it really is a 'try it out type thing'. I'd say it depends what you have on before but if you want to stick out using your boost for a solo, the extra mid hump could potentially mean less volume needed to stand out... The bump in mids might be more effective in getting you to poke out in a mix. This all depends on how FOH has your EQ set etc...but in principle, that mid hump could make a subtle difference. Either way it wont be a huge difference, but its worth a shot!

Will the Germanium Boost help in using a Fuzz with a wireless guitar unit?
@GoodwoodAudio
@GoodwoodAudio Год назад
it will. It's not the 'same' as guitar straight into a fuzz, but it's supposed to help / get you closer to the right direction.

The benson is quite transparent to be honest, but at higher settings you get more "texture"

I goofed up by putting the benson on my bass board to try it and now I can’t play without it. Lol. So I gotta buy another one for the guitar board.

haha. Good to know it works well on bass though!

@@GoodwoodAudio yeah! It’s such an amazing pedal. I was checking out their fuzz pedal. It’s insanely good too. Thinking about maybe getting the fuzz and using it as a boost. Or experiment with it.

I believe "MK" is short for "Mark", thus should read "Mark 2", another term for Second Generation of something. I keep seeing demos of various products with the MK (X) designation and hear it read "em-kay", I'm guessing a side effect of abbreviated texting culture, or perhaps someone that didn't grow up around Lincolns

I will be ordering the benson to use as my first stage OD on my church rig, then my benson preamp will be stage 2 and both for stage 3

nice! Can't be a bad board if it has 2 bensons on it.

why did you make this video so long? doesn't make any sense, just compare it in different positions.
@GoodwoodAudio

Because you can't please everyone on YT! Then it would be 'Too short' haha. Not sure if you've done YT videos before but there is literally no way to please everyone, so I just talk about what I want to hear / what I think is important from my perspective.
