2016 NAF El Centro Air Show Friday March 11th, 2016 Watch as all 6 USN Blue Angel planes land during their Friday practice of their first show of the 2016 season on a VERY WINDY afternoon.
@@chrisaustin9949its because to keep the flight path marker aligned with the runway with crosswind they have to come in at an angle (or like a crab) then they apply rudder to realign right before touchdown so they dont mess up the tires and so they are straight on the runway
Still, landing at night on a boat is something Air Force guys will never have to do. Marine aviators have to carrier quality but some of them never go back to the boat after earning their wings.
I just don't understand why we can no longer watch landings and takeoffs from this point of view at runway 03/21 at Joint Base Charleston ... prior to 9/11 you could do this all the time, any day of the week -- that area beside the road was densely packed with parked cars when the Concorde visited in 1991 for example -- then the first time I tried it after 9/11, some security guy came out from the base and asked for my ID and told me to leave ... but I've watched from a similar POV at other airports even after 9/11 so I dunno what gives
I used to watch jets land at McGuire Lakehurst Dix here in NJ for years prior to 9/11. there was a great vantage point on the public access road at the end of the runway. You got really close and it was quite exciting. Simple pleasures. After 9/11 they closed the road off and now the State Police think everyone who watches planes landing and taking off is a terrorist.
