Props for giving the customer the option for using a mix of old parts based on budget. Makes things 10x more difficult for you. Not releasing the vehicle even though the work is done is why your shop gets mad respect. Keep us posted on this money pit!
I have just bought an SQ5. Now, after watching that I'm prepared to change the oil every 6 k and listen out for trouble before it becomes expensive. Great video, thanks
It's a good practice to have any way for older "performance" cars. If you want it to last, preventative maintenance is key, some people look at you funny when you do things before they are "needed" but it's better to be on top of it before the problems occur. I have the same mentality with my V8 RS4, I might only do 6.5k miles a year in it, but it's still getting 2 oil changes a year.
Hi guys just need some advice from you as you seem to know the CRT engine, I have a 2016 Audi allroad with a CRTD engine , what are your thoughts on it for longevity?? any help would be appreciated
@@kirilakmadjov8307 You can make a engine that run more or less good performance as this car with LESS technology = less problem = less cost and so on.. sooo, more technology is not good.
Yeah I think that too! I do some big jobs, but nothing compared to what those guys do. Dread to think what the repair bill will be! I'd dread to turn the key after that rebuild
Like mentioned by me before, I own a A6 V6T..perfect car but, dpf filter, egr ventil, oil cooler had to be done..now it needs a new sensor for exhaust gas..and I am waiting for the turbos to fuck up soon since they do weird metallic sounds. Gonna sell it whilst I can. Bought it for 38k€ and repair’s so far are over 8,5k€..no service included(had to change the oil twice after parts came in. Perfect motor but once it starts to fail it’s a mess. Own it for a 1,75y made about 60000 on it bought it with 88000km on the clock. So anxious about this video. Pozdrav z Liberci Czechia
I just wang to add my prais ... and respect to you snd the team 👏 doing this sort of job is a big act of charity and you are really going out of your way to help a fellow human being in trouble.. Ues this sort of thing was done all the time in the 60s 70s 80s and you could probably get away with it up to the early 2000s .. but now !!!! Just lookmat all those pipes the vacuum system the wires the turbos!!!!!! What a totall nightmare and in the end i predict the injectors are what killing the old engine in the first place ... over fueling like mad diluting the oil burning the piston and wrecking the barings Lovely cars audis but there getting 2 complex to maintain now Compare this to an rs6 B5 .... that is like childs toy tomwork on in comparison... Anyway your a good man and a great Friend 👍 And a marvelous engineer
Germans are too intelligent with their tech,if you baby german cars with preventative maintainance they can be good cars.i know i own a polo playa 6n2 1.4i but it also makes me furious constant gremlins
excessive rich mixtures leave loads of unburnt fuel in the cylinders/chambers ...which washes the lubrication of the bores, and causes elevated wear ...also, fuel goes down past the rings into the oil sump, which dilutes the oil lubrication, causing engine bearings to be improperly lubricated. So, worn bores and destroyed bearings. great video upload. I hope you can sort out the problem :)
Ahoj kolego, regarding the injectors still keep overfuelling - the ECU is probably using the old values it learned while compensating injected quantities for the old engine, what I would do is reset the injectors in ECU memory and do a new adaptation for all of them using original codes printed from factory if according to the testing shop they are alright but would like to see how far within tolerance they are and if tolerance have moved too close to the limit then refurb and adaptation with new codes ... :) ... but I guess it has been sorted by now anyway
Awesome video, really professional job, there is only one thing i can't understand: why did you keept the old sets of Connecting rod bearing? Few hundred extra buks on this kind of bill should be not a big deal for the owner... Anyway, this is a fantastic engine rebuilt! Congrats From Rome, Italy!! 🔝🥂🍾💪✌️
When I first started racing I would complain about younger guys taking stupid dives up the inside and causing damage. And older guy said to me if you can’t afford to brake it you can’t afford to own it. Has been with me ever since. Makes life a lot less stressful if you stick to it, and yes, I would count my house in that too.
I think the problem with the injectors is the engine compression, the DEHA is 15.5:1 and the replacement short engine has different pistons giving 16.8:1 compression.
Your fantastic work cannot be praised enough. Haven't seen any repairs on 2.0 engines yet,but surely there should be a number of breakdowns on these (TSI) too?
Have you noticed, the problem is with injector 1 and 4..(front - oposite each other - one in plus and the other in minus). I think the injectors can be alright, its just the ECU compensating some kind of "unbalance-timing" from the engine. it can be minor.... but if no errors on VCDS... ECU is defenitly compensating. hope it helps.
Same here 2004 e-class 3.2l i-6 cdi. Abit more expensive on the road tax in my country but so easy to work on and 45mpg on a run with autobox and stage1 tune 260/600nm
Love your videos i watch every one all way thru love it but i have a Audi A5 3.2l V6 with 120k miles i havent had any issues at all i change oil thats it i have it in my garage cause all audi control arms go bad but i would love to know have yall worked on the 3.2l V6 or has it had a bad rep cause everyone i talk to says they still drive their car on forums people have well over 200k so keep it up guys cant wait to see more and learn more thank you guys for real THANK YOU
so what about the injector packs? the injectors need to be replaced ( all of them ), then this should resolve the issue. Awesome work as always as this has been moulded from concrete and the innards were cleaned properly.
Old timing chains and guides 😢. I almost would cough up and donate the money to a go fund me just to see the old ones thrown away and all new fitted. 😂😂😂
If it was injectors in the end, did you get your money back for the check? I would want a full explanation from the company who inspected them etc. Great content guys!
Perhaps i might be wrong, but isn't the compression ratio different between the 2 engine codes? The BiTDI engines have a compression 16.0 and the single turbo engines CDUC/CDUD compression 16.8. Perhaps it won't matter.. just something I noticed.
great work once again you can only work with the budget the customer allows you . After watching a lot of your vids it's enough to put you off buying an Audi performance petrol or diesel but having said that all cars have there own problems . 👍👍
Have a look around next time you’re in a busy motorway service station. There’s a good chance you’ll see a recovery truck. Take note of what’s being recovered. I’ll save you the trouble… it’ll be a Land Rover Discovery. Judging the relative overall reliability of a brand by what’s on the ramps of a workshop that specialises in repairing that brand is ridiculous. Cars that are expensive to maintain and repair eventually become cheap enough that people who can’t afford the running costs buy them. The tyres on a performance car normally give you an idea of the mindset of the owner. Mismatched cheap tyres tell you the owner has expectations way beyond reality.
Great video. Informative and interesting. Just curious. Do the owners of these cars not keep up with servicing? Always thought preventive maintenance was the holy grail of keeping any machine performing as it should. Or are these machines just a bit fickle and poorly made?🤔 Hope not, as I've recently bought a 2015 SQ5 tdi. It had its issues, but all fixed, and thankfully the repairs were not to the extent that's needed done to some of the vehicles you guys work on. Keep the videos coming please.
Amazing video!! You have got serious skills! Question, I’ve been reading the 3.0T of the b8/8.5 having scored cylinder sleeves usually on cylinder 6… any idea what’s causing this or any preventative maintenance?
Did you check the piston rings on the second hand engine? Also would a compression test help diagnose the fault with the fueling? Love your videos guys.
Well if you have metal in the engine there’s no point doing compression test . Piston were out and cleaned because there was loads of dirt . Everything was checked because I don’t want to build something based on scrap 😀
@@VAGTechnic I did mean a compression test on the newly built engine not the scrap one. Sorry didn't realise that you took the pistons out as well, think I missed that bit. 😎👍
@@VAGTechnicif the new engine has a slight different crank shaft stroke diesel fuel pump will not not produce the same ecu desired fuel pressure and your injector fuel delivery will be off....somthing to consider
Can you guys give us torque specs for all bolts. And why are you blowing oil and water channels with compressed air after you have sealed the bottom of engine, where it that dirt go
Got some Slovakians working eh? At least it’s not like in Slovakia where everyone wants a nice car but complains at the cost. Then again, same here in America. Nazdravje!!!
Great work sir. Did you verify correct head gasket thickness after the skimming was done per the measurement test? I know that can cause some strange issues if the wrong gasket is used. I’m sure the injectors were adapted with vcds just trying to think out of the box have been in that same situation with these 3 liters, good luck
Bad fuel pressure sensor? They get really bad before the ecu recognises it. And bad remaps, which just ramp up the fuel pressure, kill them really quickly. If this poor running condition was the original root cause, I suspect the cats/dpfs have seen better days. Failing that, it’s time to start switching around injectors.
Is it common practice there to rebuild an engine for VAG? Not sure if its VW Audi specific but domestic vehicles here if something like that happens they just replace the entire engine and refuse to rebuild them as it is too costly in labour to do so
@@VAGTechnicwow! £20k plus for an suv engine? The lease rates on a new SQ5 were excellent. Either the formula used to calculate future value is flawed or the people who buy them used need better advice! I wonder how much a warranty costs for a used SQ5.
I’d have thought the car is an economic write off? I have an A4 3.0 TDi which is a great car to drive and is awesome in the snow; but I now drive Mazdas because of the scary costs of complex VAG cars. If the Audi breaks seriously it will be a write off.
Customers buying and bringing parts is the worst. >They buy the wrong stuff. >Fake stuff, cause they buy stuff of websites that sell OEM stuff for 50% cheaper. >The straight up buy the worst brand aftermarket part that barely fits. All for trying to save like 100 on a 3000 bill.
