Hi Rick, Before assessments, gigs, etc., my hands shake so much and I find it hard to play. I'm always relaxed when I play and practice, but when I am under pressure because I'm playing for assessors or a large audience, I can't keep my hands still and it makes it difficult to play. When the rhythm section of the big band went on first to set up, I sat at the kit and put my heel up on the bass drum. It started shaking and I panicked and proceeded with my heel down (which is my regular bass drum technique). What should I do? I don't know how to take care of my exaggerated nerves before an important performance. Thanks
Hi Ethan I wish there was an easy fix for your performance anxiety, but there is not. I will eventually post a video on this since I help my students with this problem on a regular basis, and it has been on my to do list for a while. It might comfort you to know that these issues are very common, and some of the most well-known and accomplished artists suffer from them. I will move it up on my video list and try to get it done for you this month.
