He went HARD too. Not just what came before, but before that, and before that too Alabaster Lords, Onyx Lords, Numens, Eternal Cities, this man goes crazy
naw fr he killed the story. i love the vibe given in elden ring and the string story has a lot to do with it. when i defeat a boss it’s cool asf cuaae they always intresting lore behind them
Miyazaki: Hi, I'm such a big fan, could you please maybe write the lore for our new game? GRRM: I am busy finishing the sixth book of my magnum opus fantasy series. Miyazaki: Oh okay, so then... GRRM: Lets do it, how centuries of carefully crafted bloodlines, feuds and war do you need me to do?
That what I want to. Cause what Miyazaki used isn’t exactly what he wrote Miyazaki picked and added and subtracted from what he wrote. So to see exactly what he originally wrote would’ve be so cool
@@shanedillis153 I agree. The only problem with that is that it takes away from the entire way Miyazaki tells his stories. I think George was told of this beforehand, that 90% of the lore he wrote would be a secret and a lot of it would just be bits and pieces for us to put together. I think that mystery is good for us to try and figure out. But also, as an Elder Scrolls fan too, Christ I want to read all that he wrote!!!
@@lordzenkai2004 yea but Miyazaki is a master at environmental storytelling and man it’s so good piecing stuff together. I suggest looking up tarnished archeologist. That dude pieces Elden ring stuff with the real life inspiration and goes deep in the lore it’s so good
I think that what you get from the writing is subjective. I want to see what society and all these mighty heroes looked like in The Lands Between before the Ring broke.
@@Mr.Sax. it's still a collaboration between 2 great minds. The foundation Martin provided allowed Miyazaki and his team to build something more. there's a LOT of cut content with potential
but for those who did'nt play it may god help them get through a game unlike elden ring. man why did'nt i grind the heck out of it when it first released 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
@@Digger-Nick Not at all... I didn't say it's the best game of all time, but definitely one of them... Are you saying that because you didn't like the game? Because, I promise you, you're in the minority on this one.. It won game of the year for God's sake...
@@ayceod That doesn't mean anything... It won less awards than God of war did, so by definition it's a worse game right? It won game of the year for the same reason Stray couldn't win game of the year... One was too grand and the other was too small. You do nothing but kill lobotomized enemies in a completely barren, hollow, and lifeless world, that's not even taking into account anything else... It's just a reskin of every dark souls game and a significantly worse open world title with nothing to do compared to any open world game of the past 3 decades, let alone their previous game. Make it make sense
@@Digger-Nick fuck off. Elden Ring is better than GOW. I got platinum in both. Stop with the if and buts. Elden Ring is the best game I've played, and I've played since Aladdin on Sega
Never played fromsoft game before. I immediately jump into elden ring knowing absolutely nothing. Pick prophet because im a religious person, do some exploring (most of the time just finding dungeon) getting stuck on bosses, try again, killed them, stuck on bosses try again, killed them, but finally after 25 hours beat the elden beast with strength-faith build. The game literally teaching me everything i need to know about the game (except the lore) and make me overcome the struggle. Its difficult on some point but thats the fun of it.
@@maxdrags3115 well, i haven’t even seen the show, but considering the subjectivity of cinema, i think the only metrics we can use to quantify a good story are numbers-related. and GOT is up there, in terms of success.
@@maxdrags3115 same argument goes for the game, if that was your point. the story and atmosphere definitely carry the gameplay design. a boss run wouldn’t be engaging without some weight behind the fights. feel like that proves just how good the story is ( giving credit to fromsoft ofc, as he referenced their previous games that also have DEEP lore ).
@@SoulKingsssSoulsborne games don’t have good story. They have good lore. The story you experience in game is bad. But the lore and world building is literally on a league of its own.
I want them to let George write Elden ring books, just really flushing everything out in a beautiful coherent set of big thick books that lead all the way up to when the game starts.
But I want to know is what exactly did he create. Like they told him the game is going to be in the present of the world, so did they tell him things like these are the different factions and then he made the backstory to the factions, or did some of his lure completely inform how characters in the present looked. Like did he create the whole gods that reproduce with themselves thing, or was that from software?
@@Daniel-ix6nq he created the outer gods, the Demigods, The Elden Ring and the Wars fought. They gave him the world and its state, he just wrote how it got to that state
I kind of wish there was a playthrough either by but more likely with George watching along and commenting on anything he recognises as something he wrote.
My mom just retired. Growing up she got me into the wheel of time series and ASOIAF, later stormlight archive. George didn't even touch on how much work he put into the story, the lore is so awesome. But I kept pestering my mom about it, sending her smough town videos, finally she showed interest and so I bought her a ps4 and elden ring Fingers crossed. Hoping she asks how tf you're supposed to play it
Uh, if she's not a gamer, yeah you better help her figure things out. The storytelling style isn't easy to digest for most either. She might need to write note haha.
@@draketinjum428So then have her play Planescape torment or disco Elysium... Elden ring has awful storytelling and even worse gameplay for casual players.
@@draketinjum428 more importantly help her with how to play,It can be so weird for someone who hasn’t played games before to even get used to the controller let alone go into a souls game,i wish her good luck and would love if u two can post her impression or a review when she finishes it!
It’s cool that he enjoys and respects Elden Ring. A lot of older artists are quickly dismissive on their work for video games and also tend to treat it a bit lazy like, so it’s nice to see he actually enjoyed his work and respects the team and the game. I also understand why he hasn’t played it and I don’t take it as an inditement on his opinion on the game.
I tried every from software game and couldn't get into them, until Elden Ring, I bought it last week and haven't been able to put it down, idk what it is, just such a great game
Please if you can and have the time try and getting into the dark souls series or even sekiro, im not trying to diminish what George did in elden ring but people forget what an incredible developer Hidetaka Miyazaki is and how talented the fromsoftware team is. This is strictly personal but i found the first DS, Sekiro and Bloodborne to be even more mindblowing and enjoyable than elden ring and again that opinion is STRICTLY PERSONAL
@@atanaciogarza7176 “American” isn’t a language. You speak English, words like “rumour, colour, favour” all come from french parent words like “couleur” you Americans just forgot how to spell properly and grandfathered in a whole array of misspelt words. You speak English, those words are English words, you’ve just learnt to spell them incorrectly. Don’t forget, Americans are only 300 years away from being British people
I think it's really cool that they reached out to Martin and asked him to write the lore for Elden Ring. I didn't know that he also came up with some of the characters.
@@Jason-mg2vj no one gives af buddy you don’t need to add your two cents to everything you know exactly what I meant. Also while we’re correcting people, Miyazaki was still credited as the lead writer not Martin.
I don't get when older people won't even just sit down and, try it. Like I get it's overwhelming but I mean, just, take half an hour and play it. It's not like he's lacking for time.
He's old, and it's a difficult game. More than likely he was told of From Software's reputation for difficult games, and knows he as a complete novice, and aged, wouldn't be able to do much but get constantly killed by even the weakest enemies.
I think you underestimate yourself actually my friend. Many Study’s have shown that those who play video games have some of the best hand eye coordination compared to those of many other “hobbies/activities”. That is not to say others do not it’s just that the one we choice SINCE CHILDHOOD taught us extremes of this. We should not be too surprised that those who’s video game experience boiled down to pack man or pong when they where young would not have the same ease at which we find these movements. Remember many of the games you play require precise and accurate movements many of which I have to be done on a controller which need then ever more precision of movement (at times). Our years of gaming taught us these movements but they did not have that. To sum it up we are indeed just built different.
He's quite literally severely lacking for time. You need to read the old proverb about age money and time. He has money, has age, he has no time. Not with all the projects he has in hand + coming mortality
It’s good to hear this. Even after HBO wrote their personal ending to Game of Thrones he hasn’t lose his creativity. 😊 I see him up there with fantasy writers like Tolken.
After playing it multiple times, on my NG7 run on my main character with another run complete on a second when I was going for the Platinum, I can honestly say I really respect Martin for his input into such a wonderful game. For anyone undecided please try it out, yes it's difficult, yes you will die a lot but it's so amazingly well made you'll come to love it too, just gotta put in the work.
I just started for the first time the other day, reached and defeated my first real boss upon reaching the first Castle in the game. Stormviel Castle, it's incredible the journey so far and the scale of the world. Looking forward to becoming the Elden Lord.
It may not be so simple, that's all I'll say. I've not finished myself, I just know FromSoft, and you may think differently by the end. I broke my thumb recently, so I'm scuppered a couple bosses further along. Been running around on Torrent on and off for over a week, so I don't forget what I'm doing. Still fun with 1.5 hands and I even managed a ruins miniboss.
"I was hungover like crazy, taking advantage of my continental breakfast when my assistant reminded me that I had a meeting with a fromsoftware exec. I wrote some random bullshit on a napkin and they loved it."
I am fascinated by the lore of Elden Ring. There is so much nuance in it. And tbh the game isn't really all that hard. You just have to get used to the style of play. And every victory feels awesome!
Actually, no. He created the entire lore and backstory of the game. The world of elden ring is how it is now in game is because of what he wrote and the characters he created.
If that’s really what they were going for they would have marketed it that way, why do ppl like you always gotta be so snarky and negative? game of thrones just finished when they announced this game yet they didn’t market the game around his name being on the box
He didn’t play the game, he’s fucking ancient dude. It’s quite obvious he made a lot of the lore in the game. If you read any of it, or even watched a RU-vid video on it you would know. I know for sure you haven’t read his books. I don’t know why the fuck you even commented.
I guess just a preference having worked more than 12 years in some of the best gaming companies in the world. I know from experience that the best creatives are directly connected with their process, the result, and the reception of the community. Someone who just writes it and shrugs it off, shows…let’s just say, a different kind of care. But I respect your opinion as well, from an external standpoint :)
The game isn't just the most beautiful and detailed It definitely can be classified as a work of art From visuals to story to gameplay to online to RPG ❤
Having never played a souls game, the first play through was beyond amazing. I avoided walk through and hints and explored 90% of the map without prior knowledge. Fucking amazing
Playing a lot of Elden ring and listening to the game of thrones audio books is really interesting because you can tell from NPC dialogue and how things are written that there’s obvious connections in the language and the style. It’s really cool actually
I would love an elden ring novel further explaining all of the lord bc it’s such an interesting game with so much lore like the lord of the rings series.
Going down the giant elevator towards the start of the game to see not only is there a giant overworld map to explore but also a giant beautiful underworld with a starry sky gave me a feeling I haven’t felt in gaming in a long time
The fact they got a world renowned author to write lore for their game show the level of passion and commitment they put into their games. This is precisely the reason why from software makes good games. They care about making a universe that feels alive. They care about making a really well made and polished product not just something with nice graphics that's boring to play and unengaging
He did a good job, you can tell he enjoys writing this style of material because he really went above and beyond what they needed. The game has so much lore even the lore channels can’t keep up.
Elden Ring is a artistic masterpiece in picture motion , which allows you to play however and whatever you want. You can literally make your very own stories even though the Lore is very detailed, it does not force you to participate in it
How smart is that. They asked him to write what was before so that they can build present around it. Actually now that feeling of uncovering past that you get when you play kind of feels natural.
Miyazaki: Alright and then we add crabs, lobsters, dogs, swamps, bears, more dogs, lions, more crabs, another swamp, feet, some crazy woman with a dex build in a tree, a pedophile, souls parkour, and a horse that happens to be the least known about character in the entire elden ring universe
