Storm Wall can parry the annoying Pocket Sand but I don't know why anyone would every choose to parry arrows or Pocket Sand when they can also just dodge. Dodging is just more reliable and actually moves your character.
@@sobky6378 Some people use the term to sarcastically refer to the Bestial Sling Incantation because it doesn't do that much damage but people who spam it are incredibly annoying. It's like someone throwing a pebble in your face on repeat, or pocket sand. EDIT: Spelling
@lagideath actually, it does insane damage if you level strength and faith both to 40 or more, it does close to lordswarn greatsword damage which is a weak greatsword but the spam is aweful!
Stormwall can also blow away perfumes, like spark aromatic. Itll outright delete whatever dust it hits directly and push away the dust on the edge of the parry
@@sturmmagnunstein1008 there should be some risk involved using tools not specifically designed for parrying to do so, because you have no weapon-catching curvature or large surfaces to deflect with, but I think overall parrying needs improved. Also left handed ripostes
@@BigHatLoganGamingat the end of the day it's a video game that has magic are u realy gana talk about how much realism it should have 😅 no just no dude
@@BigHatLoganGaming No gear is "specifically designed" to parry until you slap a parry on it, *any* parry. I don't think your weapon catching curvature has much to do with your ability to parry a one handed colossal your size, turn magic into your own magic or parry beyond your physical presence. To invoke realism when talking about souls parry, you probably didn't think about the parry in itself ! I can give you nioh if you want more realistic parries in an otherwise just as unrealistic game
Thops's Barrier is better than Carian Retaliation if you intend on parrying multiple spells at the same time. Carian Retaliation can only parry one spell per parry. So if you're under spell spam by a few enemies or if an enemy uses a spell that hits you multiple times, Thops's Barrier can be more advantageous.
That's interesting. I had forgotten about that aspect. I was thinking of mentioning that it doesn't cost MP to use, unlike Carian Retaliation. Nothing like bringing Retaliation to a gun fight & running out of bullets. Don't need to worry about that with Thop's if all you want is to negate magic.
I like using curved sword parry. Very satisfying ^_^ Though I haven't tried PvP yet. I probably should... I think fist and thrusting sword are apparently 1 frame later than it (in 60fps)
So what people dont tell you is that carian retal cant block holy based projectiles in many cases while thops barrier is better for barrage spels and deflects all forms of non physical projectiles.
@@BigBirdMMA Its very similar to the DS3 onikiri&ubadachi idk if you can parry with them though. But now that you said it, if you poison infuse the wakizashi you'd basically have the sabimaru from sekiro (I love its high speed moveset with the kusabimaru)
I miss the caestus parry animation from ds3, it felt a lot cooler to slap weapons away than it does to just backhand them. Plus it was a unique animation instead of the normal shield parry, which can also be said for rapiers
I recently made a build that is kudos to chasethebros old ds3 chaos witch build in eldenring and I had a caestus with parry on it and I tried to duel with it and it was so bad I miss ds3 😢
Dagger parry is my favorite. It just has that very definitive visible parry window that lets you know exactly when you need to have your opponent hit you
Carian Retaliation is the best parry not only for the frames but also because it parries almost any magical projectile be it a Sorcery, Incantation or Ash of War. Most people do not realize you can parry thing like The Black Knife, Bolt of Gransax, Lightning spear, Sacred Blade etc.
I will always concede that parrying is a bad choice in PVP. No matter how good you are at it, latency and other connection issues will make it not work 60% of the time. That's why competetive duelists rarely do it. But... I'm an invader. And i invade with style. You best believe parries are the most satisfying thing for me and i can't resist.
I will stand by that Thop's Barrier is better than Carian Retaliation. While it doesn't have as good frame data as C.R., it has no FP cost and works repeatedly on spells such as Stars of Ruin. As well, the feeling as you stare down a Moonveil's Transient Moonlight blade and you slam your shield into it, and the turquoise light of Glintstone emanates from your shield as the paper-thin blade, crafted from the stars themselves, flies to your side, digging it's deadly tip into the dirt. And then, you see the shock on the Host's face as their instant-win button has finally met it's match. Ooh hoh oh, that shit's priceless. And also, it has some lore significance too, cus our favorite poor college student Thops made it himself, where as Carian Retaliation was probably discovered by some poindexter in Raya Lucaria.
It also reflects incants, which carian cannot. Thops made a huge discovery about incants and sorceries being 2 sides of the same coin, which is why the spell says it’s worthy of an entire new area of study
Stormwall is for the style! (Also fextra isn’t a very reliable source for almost anything other than mostly complete lists, I wouldn’t trust them very much.)
I prefer the carian retaliation for the simple fact that most pvp or invasions have someone using magic...also, you forgot to showcase the last parry...the tree sentinel shield that bounces magic back
Carian Retaliation is my personal favorite. Especially now knowing that it has better frame data than the buckler. Fun fact: you can Carian Retaliate your own magic even when its source is a tool/consumable like the Omen Bairns or Glintstone Scraps. Carian Retaliating my own Large Glintstone Scraps is my favorite troll against magic spammers.
Thops is better for spells with multiple rapid fire spells as it can deflect all incoming ones instead of just one same for the arrows. It is mostly a counter to barrage type strategies.
Carian retaliation used to scale off of your shield upgrades and the incoming spell damage which was a bit ridiculous(ly fun). Parry one comet and suddenly you have 1600 damage floating over your head.
I am and have always been a firm believer in ""no shields." Dagger parry has always been my favorite and now I know why. But curved sword has always been the parry for me for showing off because it is hard to hit.
That they had such a beautiful parry/deflect system in Sekiro and then used a static and clunky one in Elden Ring is a mystery to me. I almost bought Elden Ring in the hopes of that very same deflect-posture system, tried it at my brothers and was instantly put off.
I would like thops barrier more if it properly deflected the homing spells like star shower, but as it is I really only use it when helping people with Rennala (You can use it to cover teamates, unlike carian parry)
I know it’s been said already but god. If I could put carian retaliation on a dagger. I just love having dual daggers as an option on so many different builds. Fun fact. I’m pretty sure parrying dagger gets S in dex with keen. E/B with Lightning too ;).
Very cool video, I am definitely going to start using some of these, been trying to beat Malenia with all parrys recently, maybe Golden Parry will help with that.
Bro that wind parry is so cool looking while also being technically lame af. If you could parry greatbows and some semi-magical projectiles like the gravity rocks, and i wish that parry actually did some damage lmao
WTF was that attack the opponent did at 12:57? I've never seen the godskin peeler do that with the base moveset while the weapon effects imply that it is a special attack. It doesn't look like double slash or sword dance either.
My first character i spent all my stones on the lordsworn greatsword because it was the first big sword i found and my two braincells went ooga booga, and ooga booga i did but man, having the parrying dagger on the left hand is just magical since the normal attack is so much faster than the normal greatsword attack, i can catch a lot of things with it and then big bonk it with the big bonkingstick. Also some enemies ask to be parried, it is objectively the fastest way to shut some fools up.
Dagger offhand is very very deceptive, combine with some heavier main hand to poise break reliably. Not only it allows to parry, but bleed dagger with 45 arcane procs bleed in like 3-4 hits. Very useful if opponent tries to run around you or quickstep, all hits in dodges will apply bleed anyway, the tracking of dagger light attacks is very very good and the sick damage is there.
I think you’re forgetting the unique parts about thops barrier, that you’ve also probably already seen by now. For example, the fact that it can deflect incants
I'm surprised they didn't use the assets from Dark Souls 3 for a katana parry. You could sheathe and choose between a parry and weapon skill attack. I'd imagine it wouldn't be hard to implement in the game or even mod it over.
Basically, Carian Retaliation/Golden Parry for objectively best, parrying dagger/curved sword/thrusting sword for swag, and buckler for instilling fear into your opponent upon loading into the arena.
Well done. I have to say youre very lucky with several of the parries straight out of the matches, esp since you didnt even know the latency. Good on ya though for landing one for every weapon available. I wish theyd buff weapon parries - they should have been at least small shield tier as missing is so much more devastating compares to with a shield.
Don't forget about parrying with the Wakizashi. Can be pretty good for pvp because most people won't be expecting you to parry with it, also can be power wielded with other katana class weapons.
the active frames for the curve sword parry...is while the blade is BEHIND YOU? (also 2 frames on top of that, no wonder I have never parried anyone with it.)
Rapier parry animationc used to look pretty cool in DS1, I don't know why they kept nerfing til now where it just gets the basic parry animation of fist weapons, while Curved Swords get to keep their own animation.
