My grandfather had his singer he was issued in WW2 he was a Seabee ..his was the first pistol I ever handled . He tried to give it to me on my 16 birthday but my mother wasn't having it . He told me it was mine and when he died his apartment in Chicago was broken into and all his guns were stolen . I know it was a real one . His story was he was issued it and it kept jamming so he mailed it home to my great great grandmother she had it hanging on a nail above her front door for years until she died and grandpa got it back . I wish my mother woulda let me have it but we had no idea back then exactly what it was .. I will always regret that day ...

Always drives me crazy when someone handles rare money, artwork, documents or firearms with their bare hands. Thanks for respecting the value and history of the guns. I have a Remington Rand and it only comes out to look at. I dont know its history or value. But for all the hands that have carried or used it before it came to me i like to think theyd appreciate some respect. I got it from a Vietnam Vet. He got it in 68. I will never sell it.

Gone in Sixty Seconds!!! I went to the website to check it out after watching the video and it had already been SOLD! WOW!!! The Singer contract was an educational contract to see if a non-firearms manufacturing company that normally made machinery could follow specifications and gauges and manufacture a firearm that would pass government inspection/proofing. Singer came through with flying colors. Union Switch & Signal only made 55,000 before their contract was cancelled so they could produce some other item needed for the war effort leaving Colt, Ithaca (two gun companies) and Remington Rand (a typewriter company). The latter, after some initial quality problems, did more to forward the weapon design than the other two and are thought of so highly that many National Match pistols produced at the Springfield Armory started on a Remington Rand frame.

If you determine that an item you are viewing at auction or elsewhere that deems to be "illegit", do you say anything to the seller / auctioneer? I bought a CMP 1911A1 that was a total frankengun. Frame was from 1945, slide from 1970s, barrel from 1980s, trigger, hammer, slide stop and thumb safety were parts bin. I was hoping to get at least a matching frame and slide..... Oh well live and learn.

@texassportsman5880
@texassportsman5880 3 года назад
@@TSimo113 No, live and learn that those so called WWII pistols are mostly not. These pistols are far from authentic. The CMP misrepresented what they were selling. 'Pistols may have some commercial parts. SOME? Many had nearly all parts replaced with commercial Colt parts or third party parts. For what I paid I could have bought a new Colt with all original parts instead of a parts bin frankengun. So I dumped it and bought a Colt re-issue WWII 1911A1. The re-issue wasn't in WWII and likely the CMP wasn't either due to the serial number range being a month from the end of the war. Germany had already surrendered and we had the 💣 headed for the Japanese.

I paid $425.00 for Remington Rand after the Gulf War for rebuild or " Bult Sander Special". I also seen a none issue M-1911 A1 green finish none issue for $850.00 in 1993. My brother absolutely destroyed my grandfathers Singer 1911! I found out yrs later that he was the one who had stolen it when my grandfather had passed. It had been willed to me. I remember it very well when it was in original condition. When I saw it in my brother's hands it was a rusted up and beat to shit, with many after market & customized parts. I flipped out when I asked if he still had the parts that it came with. Answer was no. And that's when I told him that you can ever perfect the perfect with custom parts without destroying its value. At that 0oint my brother was getting upset and reminded me that it's just an $800 1911. Wrong! Go inside and lookup the value of a mint condition WWII Singer 1911. So while I'm outside loading up my truck. He came back outside as white as a ghost. He had a hard time eating crow when he said "what a fucking mistake I made. I could have used that money to buy an $800 gun." we parted ways, there was nothing more I could say, this made me so sick. And after this we didn't speak or see each other for another 23 yrs sad to say I had a wife just like my brother. They both destroyed everything they touched without regard to any value. But then who's to say what would have happen had this been in my possession. Some people & a true story. I'll never forget the 3 times my grandfather allowed me to shoot his Singer 1911. By far the smoothest piece I've ever used & with a mind of its own. It couldn't miss no matter what. Sneeze & squeeze and thababy was always on point. That Singer was a shooter & a very fine one at that.
@CaptainRon1913
@CaptainRon1913 3 года назад
So your wrecked your family relationship over a fucking gun? congratulations. The "smoothest piece you've ever used", "Sneeze & squeeze", lol... bullshit. That gun is special because of it's rarity, not because it's an excellent gun.

WOW! If memory serves me right, Singer mfg. Was just a dry run by the government to see what problems would be encountered by converting a none-firearm producing company to produce firearms in cases of national emergency. This may be the reason why the numbers produced by Singer was so low...just my opinion 🙏

So people are paying $1000 for a Singer handgun and are discriminating a Rock Island handgun? SINGER manufactured sawing machines, its was not even a handgun manufacturer. So what is it? Ignorance or racism? RIA is a Philippine factory that manufactures great damn handguns, so because the company is not American it’s products to many ignorant bastards is not good even though it has proven to be good. So a gun coming from an American sawing machine that never produced handguns are collectable just because is an American product? 😂 come on!!! Very rare? There were millions made in World War Two, the same with General Motors 1911/45s and Kelvinators 1911/45s, millions were made🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
