Only thing i would recommend is to use a soft bristle paintbrush and gently "wipe away" the rust/dirt off the decal next time. The decal looked great until he used the toothbrush on it

I've been cleaning and preserving a number of German helmets in the last eighteen months or so, and I must say I've picked up a tip or two watching this video. However I gotta say it, on the brief glimpses of the decal during the Oxalic acid process it looked quite sharp and retained much detail until you rubbed it at 5.34 onwards, afterwards the decal became duller and less distinct.

I really enjoy your restoration process. In China, we rarely have such an opportunity to see restored old objects. It’s not that there is no one to repair it, but we prefer the old feeling.👍

I liked it! Incidentally there is a product for maintaining such things. Its called Renaissance Wax. Well done in my opinion.👍

AGGHH YESSS finally we got a helmet restoration! Great result so far! Congrats. Looking forward to watching more videos like this! The stamp said '419' so considering this is an M40 helmet with a darker feldgrau tone paint I would say this helmet was produced between late 1941-early 1942

О, клас! Давно чекав реставрацію каски. Файний результат в решті решт вийшов. Особливо сподобалось, що ти не наклеював фейкові, бутафорської наклейки замість декалей як роблять майже 80% реставраторів шоломів на ютубі.

I like your Restoration job. other channels would sand blast the shit out of it then use a body filler with 100 paint layers

Laser cleaning would be a. Interesting way to clean. You need to make it a bit moist and clean it with a Laser cleaner. The mud and the roast will evaporate and spread away from the helmet.

Great tip regarding the conservation and getting some color back using paraffin. I usually use WD40, but this seems to be a better sealant for the long term 👍

That 1 took a lot of patience, heavy, rushing corrosion. Don't know how you got it as good as you do. Is it impossible to sand blast that one. Seems like it would help. But definitely you're the expert. Nice job On something to be Almost 100 years old.

Дай Боже здоровя! Дуже гарна робота. Теж колись реставрував, М35( стан був набагато гіршим). Те що Ви знайшли на обідку позаду - це клеймо виробника та цифрова інформація про війська куди виробник цю каску постачав. Моя виявилась війська SS.

If the serial number and manufacturer numbers are rusted our, what do you do about that? Just paint over them?

Many of these helmets were sold off as surplus, and converted into kitchen utensils after the war. There are videos on RU-vid that show this. Slava Ukraine!!!! Glory to Heroes!!!!

Hmm, I got a question... Why does the glob of dirt and rust @1:30 have your finger print smushed into it? and why would any competent "restorer" be using a hardened steel chisel to remove what a brass brush should be used for?

Oh yeah, I find “old”, “rusty” helmets on WWII battlefields all the time, too. Now I know how to “restore” them.

Вітаю, гарна робота чудовий відновленний шолом . Шкода що занадто багато ручної праці було вкладено в роботу . Звернув свою увагу ви майже скрізь використовуєте соду хоча вона занадто я б сказав слабка для зняття твердих окислів іржі , чи використовували ви хоч раз рідкий розчин солі через електроліз в своїх реставраціях? Як на мене сіль більш міцніша в роботі і краще працює спробуйте можливо вам сподобається , різницю видно відразу .Як варіант також замочування предметів на певний термін в розчин відпрацьованого мастила або чистого яке знайдеться ,теж гарно видаляє глибокі сліди ржавіння металу з періодичним зняттям бруду результат також цікавий виходить.Дякую за цікаві відео, бажаю успіхів .
