Think I'll go with our homegrown talent Sophie Ellis Bextor. She had a nice little run of hits here in the UK and they all sound timeless today.

Sophie all the way for me. Btw I love Cher but you should check out Ella Henderson another English singer who did an amazing version of Cher's song Believe. Ella has one of the top 5 voices in the world to me she is an amazing vocalist, she made Nicole Scherzinger cry with her version live on television.

Cher is a classic which is why she's being covered. Sophie is a different era.

Cher’s voice can be grating, Sophie looks and sounds a lot more sophisticated and effortless to me. Although Sophie isn’t really a “Vocalist” as such, her tone is very distinctive and she’s got a unique vibrato, I think her voice is beautiful. You should listen to some of her other songs. 🙌🏻

I love cher, she never really gets the respect she deserves as a singer, everything else sure she does, but vocally she is incredibly overlooked. BUT I prefer the S.E.B version of this. I honestly never knew it was a cover / reinterpretation (given the re written lyrics) until many years after Ellis-Bextor's version came out, and because her version is so well known and the one I'm used to hearing, the cher version sounds weird to me LOL.

I knew Sophie’s version was a cover when it first came out but I had never heard the original until just lol so thank you for that ! Cher’s version is great - only wish that Cher’s version was the longer version and Sophie’s was shorter lol 😂 Sophie Ellis Bextor was quite popular here in the uk, she had a fair few catchy songs , but her biggest hit was murder on the dance floor. My personal fave of hers is a song called ‘get over you’ purely cos I like the video ….. for me she’s more style over substance , like her style is what got her popular, cos for me she isn’t the greatest singer but she’s good for the genre she sings lol.

It’s Sophie for me personally. I didn’t know it was a Cher song and grew up with Sophie’s version so maybe I’m bias.

My jaw is open as a fan of the SEB version of this song. Cher's original just has almost everything I love about the song but she originated it. I hate that Cher's version is so good my days

Haha aaaw this is tricky. I mean cher ,right? She is vocaly way better and of course an icon so to compare those both . ...But sophie is doing her own thing and i like her voice and she is doing it very elegant. So i like both versions in their own way. Eternal flame from the bangles covered by atomic kitten might also interesting for you. And of course KYLIE. For example her video for Chocolate. Nice reaction though. Keep going.

Loving bingeing on your content atm. I know from your other videos that you're going to be a massive SEB fan, despite this difficult beginning. 😂 Thing is with Cher's version; it's very 70's, and she does come over as a bit of a drunken prom date. When Sophie took on this song she deliberately re-wrote it for that reason. It comes off as more conceited, but she just didn't want it desperate sounding. Same with her first ever hit, Spiller's Groovejet, the chorus is 'If this aint love, why does it feel so good?' and Sophie didn't like that so she wrote verses to be more assertive. She's a great pop star. Check out Murder on the dancefloor next!

In my country we say " una cosa es con guitarra y otra es con cajón" (one thing is with a guitar and other one is with a musical box). In this case, Sophie is the guitar (a pop and light version). And the DIVA Cher is the Peruvian Musical Box.

I prefer Sophie's....didn't even know it was Cher's until years later.

Gotta love some Soph. She sings with our accent. Hardly anyone does that. Lilly Allen and maybe a few indie bands. Everyone else in the music industry adopts an American accent.

Love your GA stuff but have to disagree with you on this one dude. I think Sophie's song is part original (which makes is sound more complete) and have always thought Cher sounds constipated haha lol Much love
