Yes. What is worse is when parents give their children unsupervised access to these watercraft. Just like the boys that turned the water into a trash dump. Thank God they were busted. Let's hope that their parents are not so entitled that they get a high priced lawyer so that boy can walk. It was just like a car full of teenagers.
I live down in the Florida Keys in a day does not go by that I don't see one of these monster boats flying past tearing up the bottom while the driver holds his cell phone and looked over his shoulder at the people in the back of the boat. These boats are covering 100 ft in less than 2 seconds and if they turn their head for 6 seconds they can go 300 to 500 ft. They just aren't paying attention, they feel totally safe in their giant fiberglass tanks, they don't see the manatees they don't see the small boats and they don't see the people as a problem. In fact they just don't see them. There should be strict licensing and registration for vessels that are capable of destroying the environment and taking human life . These people should be banned from the water for life
A boat like that you wouldn't feel that hit. And depending the speed limited visibility on the bow. My question is what happen to the boat that was towing her?
@@Horzzothat’s besides the point. Coastal waters in SoFlo are littered with fishing / scientific buoys similar in size and shape to a human’s head. Boats run over them all the time. You must not be experienced in boating.

I dont think it will ever be known if it was a hit and run ,,,or a comeplete accident ..sadly ...a boat that size wouldnt even feel it if it was choppy and the boat was speeding ...so tragic !!! Prayers for the family 🙏..
Agree 💯. Some many dunning Krueger people in the comments. It’s so obvious most have never spent a single minute on the ocean but they automatically KNOW it was the boat drivers fault 🤬
Agreed. I have a boat that size and you likely wouldn't even feel anything. That's no excuse for not paying closer attention to the water around you. When I see someone being towed behind a boat on a tube or skis, my eyes are glued to them making sure nobody falls off. That being said, an accident like this could happen to anyone. We have all at one time or another been distracted by something. It's likely the person that killed this girl will also never be the same again either. It's horrible for everyone.
That is what needs to be determined. A boat that size could obscure the view of someone in the water, however boaters need to pay attention as to what is around them. If you see a boat pulling a skier and then the skier disappears, you know they are down somewhere.
@@ShantalhaitianPrincessno. The girl was at fault she drove into oncoming traffic and fell off her ski. Sorry. She should have been a better ski operator 🤷♂️
@@stevenmorrison4692not a good idea to ski there, maybe in an empty part of the bay sure but next to Nixon, outside of the sandbar boats are moving fast on plane, a girl in the water is about as visible as a coconut
So she fell in the water only her head sticking out. The people running the boat had no idea she was their or could see her. Depending on the chop on the water it would be like trying to pick out a coconut in the surf.
It's insane and completely unexpected for a person to be in the water in the middle of a navigation channel where there are dozens of large speeding boats and the water is very choppy. The boat pulling the skier is completely irresponsible and is negligent!
I hate to say it but a head bobbing up and down in the waves is very hard to see from a boat that may have been doing 50 mph or more. That's why I always held my ski up high whenever I went down and other boats were around. I would say that they probably could not see her and never felt the hit, traveling at the speeds that a boat like that with probably at least 400 hp might have been traveling. At worst, it's negligent manslaughter.
They might never have seen her depending on how high the waves were and they might not have ever known. Boating accidents like this happen on lakes all of the time. Hold your opinions until the investigation takes place.
@@EveryThingMusicWorldhey, DA, they’re right. First thing I thought was the driver didn’t see her. Ain’t no way someone did that and knowingly drove away. 🖕🏻
Maybe one of the worst places to Ski, one of the highest traffic areas of the bay on a weekend... Holiday weekend next to Nixon with all the drunks, some blame falls on the parents I believe they should found a quiet area of the bay
Anyone who owns a boat knows there could be swimmers, skiers, clammers, People in the water anytime you are in a cove. That's why there is a 5 mph speed limit and a no wake limit. Once you're in open ocean you can go as fast as you want but not when you're in a bay or a docking area.
@@zrxdoug If she was water skiing, then the look out person on the boat pulling her should immediately have put up the red flag signal to alert other boaters that a person was down in the water. Their boat should have turned around got back to where she was down in the water. Someone was not paying attention, we never took our eyes off anyone we were pulling. We had a big alert flag and would wave it back and forth, other boater would acknowledge by holding their arm straight up to let you know they saw your signal. I understand those huge monstrosities can have a hard time seeing people in the water, there is no need to hit full steam ahead when you come out the 5 mph zone. As a boat owner, I have seen some crazy people who have no damned clue about the rules of driving a boat.
@@WebsInYourHead Can't blame them for taking the money if they have important information to give. It's the American way to make money at the expense of others.
Interesting, I'm curious what your boat's length and draft are. As a sailor I'm not a fan of the wakes these rich guys send me, but so it goes. It's really natural selection, you see how the world works and adapt. If not, you get chewed up by a lip surgeon's weekend behemoth.
Hell, did you see the one she was SKIING behind? No different. As I said elsewhere, it's a miracle THEY didn't run over someone while worrying about THEIR OWN skiers.
She was floating in the water after falling. There's a good chance with the size of that boat he didn't see somebody in the water in front of him. With the noise of a thousand horsepower and the waves, he probably didn't hear it either. If you don't see it, feel it or hear it... How are you supposed to know something happened? Of course he drove off. I'm sure he didn't know there was anything to stop for

Very sad but a boat that big wouldn't have known they hit her. Im a true Floridian & been on boats my whole life. As a skier or whoever was her guardian should have been more aware of their surroundings.
So many people are so quick to place judgement and blame the boat owner......what about the accountability of the girls boat driver? Or the look out? Was there a flag up? Does the alleged driver of the boat above even KNOW he ran a person over? I've ran over large logs before and not known until someone in my boat pointed it out. If you ask me, the negligence here is on the people who KNEW she was in the water and apparently did nothing to protect her, not the boat owner who possibly ran her over unknowingly!
A boat of that size did not even realize that it hit something, and in the waters with constant waves the driver is looking at the horizon and not what is in the water. That poor girl was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
@@Joyce-zl4qd She was WATER SKIING in the freaking area! You are aware that water skiing isn't exactly a low speed activity, right? If it was okay for her boat to operate at speed, then it's okay for the boat in this story as well.. What people don't want to realize is that both boat owners are at fault, South Florida is not what it used to be, population is is way out of control, everyone want to own a boat, but many don't have the knowledge of what it takes to own a boat. First off, skiing is not meant for most of south Florida, especially now and days, the overcrowded of vessels is disgusting, I wouldn't ski know and days in South Florida waters even if you paid me to, between the amount of boats and nut job jet ski owners it has become a jungle. Both boat owners are at fault, the one who was pulling the girl on skis should have known better as well as the driver who run over the girl.
Nowhere in SoFlo is a good place to ski - I'm on the water often, twice this week and I've never seen anyone skiing. I was like, people ski here? NEVER would I!!! Not sure there's even enough water real estate to really ski.
So I’m guessing you’d wouldn’t claim innocence if you were driving down the highway and some person ran out in front of your vehicle 🤔. Or if you’re driving down a road and a deer jumps out in front of you 🤷♂️🙄. You should get a ticket for hitting the deer right 🤔🤷♂️🙄

I was almost hit head on by a boat in the river when I was in high school. I remember that thing barreling toward me and not making any attempt to miss me. Quick thinking had me go under to miss them, but I remember hearing the propeller go by my ear. And once I resurfaced, people on the back of the boat were looking back at me. But buddy, they kept on trucking down the river. I could have been Ella Adler. Shame she didn't have the chance to get out of harms way. RIP.
Everybody is condemning the boat driver but it's possible that she wasn't visible and it's possible the impact wasn't felt. Yes, a life was lost but why do we always think the worst. Accidents can happen.
I agree. Details about the area's regulations would be helpful. If the boater was operating legally, and wasn't aware that he ran over someone, then this is just a tragic accident.
The person who's idea it was to tow a skier in that area of Miami on a weekend is the most liable for this situation. My son and I spearfish all around South Florida and have two 3'x5' diver down flags hanging from our t-top anytime we're in the water, and still have boats run right up to us. We also never go out during the weekend or holidays. It's lawless out there unless you catch a fish out of season or 1/4" too short. If you're in the water in SFL without a flag or your boat right beside you, then prepare to get run over.
Be careful, some Arab dude with a Gold Hydra Sports with 4 gold painted engines didn't know what dive flags meant and ran over a bunch of people with dive flags out. I wouldn't trust south Florida boaters to know, half are foreign and never take a boating course.
Why isn't the boat owner in custody for leaving a accident where a death occured . Get busy and arrest this killer who ran off after striking her and leaving her dying.
Great job to FWC and all law enforcement agencies involved. Great reporting! Arrest and Jail time needed. Judge needs to send a message to fleeing boaters.
Who water ski's in the ocean? Maybe the person in the boat just didn't see them? I live in FL and been to different parts of the state and never seen anyone water skiing.
Water skiing in a congested waterway (on a holiday weekend no less) - what could possibly go wrong? Liability and criminal charges should be filed against the operator and owner of the tow boat - criminal negligence. The tow boat operator (NOT the old man who ran over the young teen) should be held accountable for the predictable consequences of his behavior and decisions.
He'd better..this reporter and 99% of this comment section have already convicted him in their minds.. Funny how her OWN boat crew isn't being questioned at all about their (obvious) negligence..
Public service announcement: Always lawyer up, never say a word beyond your SSN and 'lawyer please'. Whether you are innocent or not, police are doing their job which is trying to put someone away. Don't let it be you.
What a joke! You assume that the boater must always assume there is someone in the water? What about having a red flag held up if there is a skier in the water? No information on that. People just assume the boater was at faut!
So, does that apply to the boat that was towing her as well? How long was she loose in the water and why wasn't her own tow boat immediately on the scene? Was there even a spotter on her boat?

Driver of the boat who was pulling Ella needs to be investigated as well. Were there spotters? What took so long to turn around after she fell? How close was the boat that hit her when she was up on her skis? Lots of questions here. People shouldn't jump to conclusions without knowing all the facts.

This is for all of the commenters here who have never boated this area or have a clue about it. The part of the waterway that is traditionally called "Biscayne Bay" is approximately 35 miles (56 km) long and up to 8 miles (13 km) wide. It is not a little channel with 5mph limit. The details will come out, it might not be as straight up as we think.
How do they actually know this IS the "vessel"? The one thing I find curious is that you'd think that if someone knew they hit someone, they might get rid of that boat... IF this IS the one involved, I'm glad they found it...
If the skipper hit a person, people take out their cell-phones and start recording. They know some swabs lie about collisions. The times are changing; just about any lie people tell these days will be exposed as a lie.
Likely with the size of the boat he did not see her swimming in the water after she fell of her water ski. There is a responsibility of the person towing her on the water ski to stop and raise flags and go back to her to let people know she is in the water.. Tragic accident

An unfortunate accident. Certainly it wasnt intentional, they probably didnt see her. It may not be neglect but just an accident where 2 margins of error collided.
Apparently she was not water skiing, she was wake boarding. That is a significant detail. So many facts are not either clear or correct in this reporting.
Total tragedy and sorry for the loss of a beautiful angel. Accidents happen on the water especially in high traffic areas. Boat safely my fellow mariners.
Why didn’t the owner turn himself in? Within an hour this was major news and within 12 hours there was a description of the boat.
