My 6 pound Chihuahua suffers itchy skin allergies. My vet recommended washing his feet with a baby wipe whenever he comes in from outside. Since Remi’s itching was not just on his paws, I started a nightly regimen of a full body wash up with the wipes followed by a light coating of coconut oil rubbed into his coat well so it would also reach his skin. This treatment has not only almost completely eliminated the itching but has also turned his coat from dull and dry to soft and shiny.
Pepcid has been a life changer for my 11 year old cat. She used to vomit daily, but no more. Her fur has improved greatly and she seems so much happier. Thank you ❤
When its a known fact how pets lead to healthy humans mentally, they should be covered under human health insurance which reduces overall mental health expenses
Years ago when Pharmacists were caring (like you) I had seen many kittens die of diarrhea and vomiting. The Pharmacist told me to give Malox to the kittens and it worked. Sixty years ago saving animals with Malox anit-diarrhea medicine. And giving kittens baths and popping fleas off their bodies. The fleas eating kittens up. I bet you see it all. Thanks for sharing.
Your channel has totally helped me with my pups and cats. You’ve helped me more than any vet ever has. I use the vet only for their upkeep on immunization or emergency purposes. They are very sensitive pups and would get seizures. I never got an answer from the vet that helped. Following your advice on food and acceptable snacks along with other suggestions has completely improved their quality of life and helped with the anxiety I would suffer with my babies. It’s rare now that they get a seizure. I’m a long time Patreon. I recommend your subs become Patreons to your channel! It will sooo help with the care for your pet family ❤️🙏🏻
My brother's old cat got in a fight and had a hole about the size of a quarter (1" dia) in it's front leg, too big to stitch together (you couksee the muscle underneath). The "free" vet clinic (donations only) near him the vet recommended he gets triple antibiotic cream at the store and Preparation-H... Apparently the ingredient in the Prep-H promotes scabbing over, a few weeks with a cone on his head (to keep him from licking it and reopening g it) a nice scab formed and it was healing nicely.
Tula is such a good health "model" for her fellow canine's. Dr. Jones your videos and webinar's are the best! I have learned so much from you. I haven't missed a webinar. So very informative with both dogs and cats. Thank you so much!
I just Love Your advise!!! I am the Pet Parent to 2 Dogs, 2 Puppies, 1 Kitten and 3 Cats!!! And try to treat them with natural methods!!! Plus now the Costs of Veterinary Care is threw the roof!!! Like everything else!!❤❤❤
FYI- Reactine comes in 5mg tablets, no splitting necessary. I've been using it with my cat with chronic rhinitis since your last OTC video. Love these videos! Thanks
Thank you for this! As another person stated my cat has been throwing up almost routinely that started because of his age. Even after other Veterinarian advice; this was not mentioned. I ended up using Camomile sprinkled in his food. I am pleased to see a Veterinarian trying to truly help pet owners without paying thousands of dollars to try to help routine problems that humans can go to their drugstore for a remedy.❤
Thank you Dr Jones for another very useful and needed video. Of course little Tula makes for a great addition for knowing how and what to use for OTC medicines. God bless you ❤❤❤
I saw your other video about ear infections and recently used the Canesten on my pup and it's worked great. Next time I'll also mix with the hydrocortisone. Thanks for saving me a lot on vet visits/expenses.
Hey Doc, a little feedback. Earlier this year I asked for Apoquel substitute and you recommended Beta Sitosterol, works like a charm. Thank you so much! 😊
@@dread6211 well,I give her one tablet with her morning food, that’s it. She’s overweight…..30/35 pds ….. it’s an easy substance to purchase online. The doc might have it…. I order from Swanson vitamins.
Thank you Dr Jones. Pepcid has helped my CKD boy a lot. Since I don't feed CKD diet I also give him porus one to help his little kidneys and your ultimate feline formula. He's doing a lot better than 3 weeks ago.
As we are trying to stock up for ourselves woth the way things we're going today this video is worth Gold, it is very important to have these on our shelf for our pets in case we need them, Thank You very much..
Will be trying that at home remedy for the ear and skin as my golden is having really bad rashes by his private area all of a sudden again and one of his ears looks infected or has yeast too. He’s suffering from hot spots on his tail as well. Poor guys going through it. Vet had given me dermavet ointment to put in his ear and it seems to be helping a little thankfully but the rashes down below look rough… also using your black tea with aspirin for his hot spots that work wonders. thank you doc!!!!
My vet suggested Neosporin (Sp?) for my Bengal kitty's skin when she was reacting with horrendous itching and scary seizures from various kibble brands. The dollar tree version worked just fine, after I tried it. I started feeding her tinned catfood with giblets for taurine, mixed with pumpkin puree. (Your anti-itch spray did not help at all, sadly, since I optimistically bought two). When her fur grew back and she hadn't had a seizure for several months, I gave her a serving of kibble and within hours, she seized, eliminating dry food for my girlfriend. She loves the pumpkin mixture and the cooked meat and liver I supplement with, but I wonder whether I should continue the puree.
Dr. Jones you're an angel ❤ I've been using your green tea home remedy for my 11 year old pug's reoccurring ear infections for a year and a half. I fill a small syringe twice a day and her ears are nice and soft, no digging and scratching as much like she was constantly doing, and no unpleasant ear smell anymore.
Invaluable info. My 15yo diabetic pup Hermie would get sick after insulin shots. So he's been on o.t.c. Pepcid (Famotidine) from 2019 to 2023. He is a 40 pnd. minibulldog and started on 10mg after each shot but our vet increased dose to 1- (cut 20mg) to get 15mg before breakfast & 1ea, 20mg @ supper (12 hours apart). Generic Reglan was also added with ea dose of Pepsid. I'd buy the 20mg Famotidine at Walmart in multi packs (cheaper) and give it to him with a pinch of cold Philadelphia creamcheese...He always thinks it's snacky time taking pills. This channel is a Godsend. Thank you!😊
So, Omezprozole is out of the question? Only reason I say this. I have a ton of it because of a stomach ulcer. Dr orders. Just wanted to find out. Thank you for all your videos. My husband and I watch them all. Have a 13 old mix lab/retriver mix now she is on gabapentin when her arthritis acts up on her spine. My new 7 month old pup had an ear infection did what you recommended and it worked.
I have never given that but I've used ranitidine (used to be Zantac in US bc it was pulled now I buy from India), Pepcid, and Tagamet all with success.
Dr. Jones, I have a 9 month old Corgi with white feet. You mentioned "white feet, don't treat" when discussing ivermectin and immodium. She takes Heartguard, which is ivermectin I think. Should I have her tested for this gene?
I was so confused by that as well since he only listed two breeds haha my terrier also has white feet but i give all my dogs straight ivermectin and no issues so far...
Love listen to you I don’t have dogs an more but have two cat I rescued so far they are doing good thank you for all your great information and wisdom God Bless
PS if your dog is on anti anxiety meds or antidepressants be sure to check with the vet to see if Benadryl is ok to use as an antihistamine. My dog is on clomipramine and it is not good to give Benadryl with that drug. It completely counteracted it for my dog. I give mine Chlortrimeton for itching...haven't tried Zyrtec (which was mentioning in the video). I have to be super careful of every drug I give my anxious dog. If your dog is like is proceed with caution when giving anything. My dog becomes overly anxious and bitey if he takes just about any drug besides his anxiety meds. Just FYI.
Yes. Exactly! A good sign my Lily isn't vibing with a med is... she starts lip smacking and licking her lips while putting her head up. It's my fastest heads up that the med won't work with her and stop dispensing or ultimately she throws it up. Took me years of owning dogs & being w them 24-7 to read the signs.... Best of luck w your pup!
Tqvm. Wish I saw this yesterday bcos my cat is suddenly vomitting and refuse to eat or drink. I gave her ORS fluid every 3-4 hrs and try to feed her some puree cat food. Also, the 5th OTC ear infection treatment is it suitable for cats too?
Thank you so much for all the useful information you share. It is much appreciated I am sure by pet lovers everywhere. I am a senior retired Emerg/trauma nurse in Nova Scotia and I would love a video on what to give your pets to calm them down before storms, lightning, thunder and also wind. What with hurricanes stronger than ever our pets suffer, please help us with this dilemma. I am thanking you in advance.❤
Thank you so much for this information. But the biggest issue with rescue cats is upper respiratory infection which always needs antibiotics ( which is prescription only) and the URI repeats again after a while. Is there some solution that does not require prescription?
Might possibly be feline herpes if it's repeating. L Lysine and some Mucinex really helped my cat with herpes that kept getting upper respiratory infection. Hope this helps! You have to cut the Mucinex way down of course. I can't exactly recall how much I gave him, he was prob 15 lbs and I prob gave 1/8 of the 600 mg.
Also fish antibiotics for your "furry" fish....lots of websites carry those. I usually give amoxicillin for a few days. Open the capsule into canned food and hope they eat it. 1/2 pill 2 x a day.
Definitely canesten&hydrocortisol is kind of substitiute for Orydermil because they almost have the same chemical compound. Long term use of Orydermil causes secondary metabolic diseseas, actually any antihistemic . Such as thyroid problems. Or cushing
thanks for mentioning loperamide is an opioid. its strong. just doesnt cross the BBB. theres some kitchen chemistry that supposedly makes it abusable but thats nutty.
@@dianasimplifies lol, im annoyed the govt and etc cares. its largely a very minor minority abusing pseudoephedrine, morning glory seeds, robitussin, etc. No reason to screw the whole class cuz one student-just make an example of the students a few times. and like robitussin- the active ingredient is part of an antidepressant now too, lol. People are gonna self medicate and abuse things, just punish the stupid behavior while on the drugs more. But dont punish someone for just being intoxicated by something not socially acceptable like booze. You kick out the belligerent drunks, not the nice, stable, polite ones, lol.
Really need your advice and is there a way? Your kindness would be deeply appreciated. You have helped me so much this year. The advice I need is too much to write out in comments. My fur child is a senior Rottweiler/Pitt mix . The first time in his life to get sick was January this year. His doctor was out of town and a very young vet that works under him treated him. There have been problems since. Only once was his doctor in office. His doctor did call twice over this period of time … I trusted the vet who was working under him and realized in late April I should not have. Trying to figure things out (what to do) on my own. Thank you for all you do Doctor Jones. You are wonderful.
Thank you for your knowledge! Would you be able to recommend the correct type of probiotics for a yeasty dog? There are so many different opinions and I haven’t had luck with any of them. Thanks again 🤗
My beagle Bandit has been coughing a lot. Been given him dandelion and hawthorn. Vet said why given him this. They said he has 4th grade heart murmur and that he needs chest x-ray which they said 800 dollars. He has a mass on his neck. Another vet said he has collapse trachea. She gave me pills to keep him from coughing. Which doesn't help.
Why is a freaking chest X-ray $800????? Good grief. My dog was coughing. My vet says could be caused by age. Give Mucinex. That worked unfortunately it makes him more anxious and he was growling quite a lot so I had to discontinue. My dog can hardly take meds at all. Ramps up his anxiety
Thanks for the advice. Two of my cats have had nasal allergies for the last 4 years and none of the vet's medicines work. I have been battling with the idea of giving them my antihistamines (Cetrizine). Will try the dosage that you have advised.
When my dog has an pancreatitis episode, Pepcid helps so much. My vet recommended it. I also use doggie pepto. I'm too scared to give the human imodium. My other dog gets Claritin for allergies. Please make sure if doesn't have decongestant.
Thank You so much for For Your Recommendation, I Really Very Appreciated. Again Thank You 🙏. How Pawns Over Counters Medicine. I Noticed My Maltese have a Brown Little Spot on Her Tummy. What isn’t ?? And Can You Recommend Over the Counter Medicine. Please 🙏 Help. Thank You 🙏👋👍…
