I only volunteered once. My LT was saying: "Who wants to go participate in an orienteering competition for 3 days. It's going to be great, you're going to the mountains and have fun!" I was pretty adept in volunteering so I thought... sure! The result... I spent 3 days freezing my ass off on the mountains with no tents or anything. I finished the competition.. not in last place but ended up in hospital due to severe hypothermia. Fun!

When the chapter entitled, not service related came up, I thought for sure the government was gonna try and prevent him from getting his pension and benefits, and try and prove that his wounds weren’t service related. I think I ranted and raved for up to 10 minutes over the injustice. And then it turned out to be not what I thought. Although I didn’t stop the IRS from trying later on in his life.
