Ya, but he's basically prisoner here. His best bet is to go to Spain for trial. If he's exonerated, then he can probably go home. But if he doesn't, he could wait for years with an ankle monitor waiting for an agreement between Spain and the U.S.
1. This journalist is a MASSIVE let down. Absolutely ridiculous questions that most likely put this man’s life in danger even more. 2. Unbelievable story that this is the first time I’m hearing about it. This needs to go nationwide!
Why? Their strategy is to put pressure on the US government not to extradite him. If he gets returned to Spain he's in real jeopardy. What would you do?
I don’t understand the interviewer’s judgemental attitude here. Her manner is making this hard to watch. He’s handling the whole thing a lot better than I would in his situation. This is a prime example of how not to do journalism. I expected more, 60 Minutes.
Welcome to the semi-reality of media in today’s world. It’s usually not only the interviewer that has lost integrity though. Both play a part in most productions
He jeopardised himself by being filmed, if you believe the story. Do you really believe the government would allow a former marine to detail all these plans without vetting (or more likely, writing) the script for this interviewer and of his own answers??
@@veronikalynn5084The united states government doesn’t have control over its citizens mouths. A retired general can say whatever he wants and face the consequences…. what’s wrong with you
@@veronikalynn5084 I'd agree, he should have thought twice about an interview. As the government vetting, he is now a regular citizen, like you or me, thus no betting.
Sounds bizzare. He is either a useful idiot or it was failed plot to throw off the high profile meeting. If he was so concerned about the embassy staff before, why is he snitching now? Wouldn’t the ambassador and staff be put on trial by NK? Super weird, nothing adds up.
@@burhanh.adhami6849they said INTERVIEWER, not interviewee. Also, you have a really weird spin on his story and you clearly don’t understand the story he gave. Kim, that you?
This woman is insanely irresponsible to interview this person like this. If he is a target for assassination then it's now 10x easier to find him and even his contacts. What a reckless form of journalism.
Disagree, the most important thing for Chris Ahn's safety is that he is not extradited. The more people know about his case, the better. That's probably why the group FreeChrisHahn said: We at FreeChrisAhn want to thank CBS, 60 Minutes, Sharyn Alfonsi, Draggan Mihailovich, and Jacqueline Williams for their tireless investigating and reporting. Hopefully their reporting will bring more attention to Christopher's plight and gain more supporters to help communicate to our politicians that this extradition must not happen.
I don’t like this reporter at all. Comes across as a total B. Her reactions were very weird. I’m into following politics and certain interests but don’t always know everything going on until it is happening. As someone who works in government and has a lot of military family as well, not everything is even announced because of safety concerns. So maybe he knew Kim Jong Un was visiting or maybe he didn’t. Why does Spain let North Korea have an “embassy” in their country. Yikes. Like they said they are not country, they are a terrorist state. I don’t have confidence in countries that allow for things like that.
I wondered the same thing. She also shows no emotion or caring at all. It is a strange interview. I hope he can be protected, he was being a hero endeavoring to help others.
Well, he has the power to not answer questions or do this interview in the first place. Don't think he was held at gunpoint to do this as far as we know.
very poorly thought out about the repercussions & lack of planning. Why do they not have any video recording of their entry and time inside, on a bodycam or gopro to show it was not a real kidnapping and the staff were in on it. Also, their original phone calls or emails or texts with the embassy staff coordinating this fake kidnapping months prior. Encrypted or not, each side has copies. they should have kept that as a backup to prove that this was in coordination with embassy staff and not a real kidnapping. they also should have at least wore some disguises or masks as they approach the embassy with cameras. That's the only way they were identified by Spain. And No, he certainly should not be extradited to Spain.
The comments are showing that CBS is still doing good journalism. Journalism is intended to be adversarial. We don't really know anything about this guy or his motivations, funding, possible ties to intelligence etc, and it's her role to ask questions that are tough to get real answers. And she does that very well, for each person she interviews.
8:57 Who was-is paying this guy? Hard to believe he is doing it from the goodness of his heart... he decided to go to enter a country and then an embassy pretending to be a sales person? What a smart move...
@@el80ne The hell is "regal" and if people searched up the definition of a dictatorship government they would realize North Korea is a monarchy because only the Kim family can hold power. A dictatorship government does not work like that it's either one person or a group of people hold power but blood line plays no part in it.
@@milliegirl7514 Nice to see someone gets how geopolitics, politics, and these media companies work. That means you understand how hypocritical it is that the United States says it wants democracy across the world but never tells Saudi Arabia to have elections but tells Venezuela it needs to.
@@shadowslayer9988 I don't use the word 'regal' as a compliment. Only to point out that it's a way to dress up the term 'dictator' with history and customs that makes it more acceptable in feudal societies. Of course both Kim and MBS are effectively dictators.
What a story. He’s helped loads of people to freedom and is a hero, and the United States is about to send him to his own execution. I hope we can step up and see how stupid this all is.
The real question that needs to answered is why Spain would care about an attempt to help North Koreans defect to the point that they pursue extradition of someone who they would have no other good reason to pursue. This smells like Chinese back room influence in favor of North Korea being couched as a justice. Spain supporting North Korea in this way should be embarrassing. Why isn’t it?
Think of it from spains point - they failed their article 27 obligation (security), they issued all legal papers for this man. They liaised with US. They have a treaty. It’s a bloody nightmare of a case; bureaucracy and legalisms but it has to be done for face saving. I would hope State dept would help him urgently. His cover was badly done as he has little/no protection.

I don't understand something. They stated they needed to stage this as a kidnapping so that friends and family of these people wouldn't be killed. Now that is aired and made known to the public that this was staged aren't now these people families and friends doomed? Seems incredibly irresponsible.

lol. _North Korea is poised to close as many as a dozen embassies including in Spain, Hong Kong, and multiple countries in Africa, according to media reports and analysts, in a move that could see nearly 25 percent of Pyongyang's missions close worldwide._
Since North Korea is not a member of Interpol, I would ask the following, what is the structure of the diplomatic agreement between Spain and North Korea? Does Spain have an embassy in North Korea and what countries have an embassy in North Korea? Per Spanish law and constitution, the allowance of criminal complaint from the North Korean Embassy to Spanish Authorities, since the incident technically occurred on North Korean sovereign jurisdiction, does Spanish law apply in this case as I would believe the Spanish jurisdiction ends at the doors of the North Korean Embassy. Here is another question I would ask, since in the statement from Christopher Ang, he was working under the official request from the Ambassador of North Korea to render aid and assistance for the defection of all personnel inside the North Korean embassy, the key element I put forth, why hasn´t the North Korean ambassador been recalled back to North Korea along with all staff involved in this defection. As proven in another case, where the Saudis assisinated the journilist Jamal Khashoggi within their embassy and later disposed of the remains as reported in the Belgrad forests in which realisticly most likely violated several national jurisdictions which I would believe falls under the jurisdiction of Interpol's international agreements between member states. Why hasn't the North Korean Ambassador and all staff been assassinated yet either within the walls of the North Korean Embassy or after recall back to North Korea? Since no action has been taken by North Korea, I would submit that maybe there is a disinformation program in play here for some other reason to enable Kim to assisinate Chris Ang due to some other vendetta that Kim has against Christopher. In this case, I would ask, jurisdictionally, what is Spains legal authority in this case?
He did get them out his way. Spanish police is limited unless their CIA group is involved Going to the US embassy or any other could have led to an international incident ...and please you are aware that DJT was in office at the time He loves his fellow dictators

While what they have done is honorable the organization was too “loud” they wanted to be heroes and they wanted everyone to notice them and give them flowers. Why are they taking videos of themselves smashing photos, having the man they saved go on camera and talk? Look at the photo of the leader of the organization he clearly wanted to look a certain way and so did the rest of them. Let your actions speak, no need to boast even if you are “heroes”.
@@anellawrites I think they would off. We're talking about possible NK defectors here. CIA does crazy stuff everyday. He just wants to be a hero. Now he's a villan 😔
If it's all fake and they wanted to go, their story should be fairly easy to corroborate. Hand over the notes, files, contact logs, etc, showing communications with their contact in the embassy staging this. I'm leaning towards believing the "kidnappers" because who would just stroll into an embassy univited, demanding the diplomatic staff defect? It would be a huge assumption that they'd even want to go! Also, there's a huge incentive for the diplomatic staff to lie on this one.
Why don’t the American government don’t do something about North Korea these people are basically kept hostage and told what to do in our own country not ok
Why does the United States stop exploration of immigrants labour in Saudia Arabia and the United Arab Emirates? I'll tell you why the United States does not care about those things unless they do not like the country doing it.

Does anyone know if this is an older show or is a current one? It seems like news agencies are not labeling shows, titles, etc properly. I regularly begin several minutes of watching a YT video that said it was posted 3 days ago and find out half way throughout that it was Originally aired 7 years ago. Many times the news story or video never mentions the date, city or state. Sleeper agents to be activated in the near future? probably quite a few, but they're disguised as Chinese economic refugees seeking "a better life" - and that's why the bipartisan bill in Congress should've been passed so we can vet these people more closely.
Exactly! They’ve been able to hack and get billions of dollars. They’re stealing identities of Americans and Europeans to work for tech companies then plant malware to hack the company and send money back to NK.
I'd be happy to be wrong here, but there has to be some information they're withholding here cause from what they're saying there was no security, the house was almost empty, so why wasn't this a lightning quick operation? Hell, even after the police had left and they saw that the coast was clear, they could've immediately left.
