I know this comment was over a year ago but I’ve always LOVED this song for over 10+ years and just wondering how did y’all come up with it ?? It’s written so perfectly and is one of my favorite songs of all time. Not kidding this is on my all time top 5 favorite songs. So THANK YOU for co-writing this masterpiece!
This song brings me to tears and is one of my favorite songs when I turned 18 I was given a 1965 corvette as a project to restore and found out the original owner was a police officer who died in line of duty it will keep the car for the rest of my life always have a passenger riding shot gun
Wood, you and Thom Sheperd definitely wrote a timeless song. And like how Bart Herbison said to you one time: That song really did help resurrect David Ball’s career.
Another country song, one by Willie Nelson explains you DON'T get over it, you just get through it. The loss is never healed, the scars remain till the day you exit this world. "It's not something you get over, but it's something you get through". I THINK Willie wrote that about the death of one of his sons. It takes a poet, someone like Willie to put into words that which we all feel. And when it's done we recognise and pay tribute.
@Paul Provenzano I can't even begin to imagine how to survive that loss.My heart breaks for you Paul. Our loved ones are with us long after they've gone.My Mother kept my Brother's 65Chevy pick-up in the yard until the bed had rusted through and a maple tree grew up through it.
Roy Knight, Jr., left Dallas for Vietnam 52 years ago, his 5-year-old son, Bryan, came to Dallas Love Field to see him off. On Thursday, Bryan, now a captain for Southwest Airlines, brought back his father's remains aboard a flight to the same Dallas airport.23 hours ago
Salute, I'm glad an American warrior was returned to his born soil. Respect and gratitude to all of our soldiers who never saw home again. I will carry them all in my thoughts until I see my last breath.
I cried when they landed in Dallas. I was listening as the story unfolded. You don’t hear of the the son seeing them of and then bringing back the remains.
We love getting to see Emotional Billy to. Specially cause most people these days just hate on country, but Billy really appreciates and enjoys music for what it is. And its great to share the fun and the painful songs.
This one is especially emotional when you remember that in the first line the narrator says he is just out of the service - it’s one soldier taking care of a fellow man in uniform at the end.
Dude, I'm in my 70's, from that era, and I always tear up when I hear this song. I am not ashamed, don't you be. Non-vets won't get it, but the rest of us do.
I did not get the honor of serving, due to my own stupidity. Just so you know, those of us who appreciate your service and sacrifice definitely get it. To an extent.
@@terrywilkerson5598 well, I didn't really have a choice, but I did the best I could with it. Least ways I buried them, they didn't bury me. Tell you the truth tho, to survive we ignored a lot of the silly rules they laid on us You cannot fight a war with rules.
@@johnlake4809 actually, I feel bad when people thank me for my service. All I did was kill people that I was told to kill, and for reasons that were beyond me and I feel were unjust, now. I didn't know better at that time. I did what I had to do, and that was that. That's one think people even in the government don't understand. The military's real job is to kill people and break things. If you're not going to let them do that, don't send them. Fact is, we could have avoided that whole war by giving Ho Chi Minn help bringing his country into the 20th century when he begged all the western nations for help. But no, instead we waste thousands of lives and billions of dollars on a war that need not be... then to make matters worse, after all that, we just give up. Frankly if we'd fought ww2 like nam, we'd all be speaking Japanese or German. Congress got into the act and put rules on the services that were stupid and made it impossible to win. then Nixon gives China, our enemy, most favored nation trade status and lets them take over our marketplaces. That and taking us off the gold standard ruined the economy of this country forever.
I'm only 26, and I've never Served, but instill tear up every time I listen to this song. I'm almost ashamed I didnt have the guts to join, But I thank you for having the courage to defend the innocent.
This song was released right before my brother and husband deployed to Afghanistan. My brother's name is Andrew and I still 19 years later can barely stand to listen to it.
i feel ya, i cant sit through Blackhawk Down, i knew every one of those Aviators that died in Mog. its been since 1993. the solace is that like them, Andrew was a Patriot. i dont even know him and im proud of him. i wish he was still here with you in person, but his spirit lives in you just as the spirits of all of our fallen heroes live on in us. Honor him as i do , wear Red on Friday, support his "current" buddies, and understand that every one of us who is still here strives to live to the fullest for those who have left us to dwell in the Elysian Fields among the larger than life heroes that welcomed them as brothers. sending you a hug as i pour a wee dram to toast the memory of your brother who is now mine as well. Night Stalkers Don't Quit!
My son is 17 and this has been his favorite song for many years. After my dad passed this song would come on the radio whenever my boy was in the car. We told him it's Papa letting him know he's with him.
Female Army Veteran here and by far, PVT. Malone is one of my all time favorite songs!!! 💖💖💖💖💖💖 Suggestion: Listen to " Go Rest High On That Mountain " by Vince McGill.
This is my first time hearing this and....God damn, the tears started the moment he said "If you're reading this I didn't make it home". Ugh. So hard to hold back from crying. This is the sort of stuff that always gets me. A loved one lost, then his ghost saving the young man. T_T I rode the coaster with you, Billy.
I'd like to see you react to Three Wooden Crosses by Randy Travis. I've been looking through your RU-vid videos and I don't think you've done this one.
Yes please, while we're on Randy Travis please react to A Man Ain't Made of Stone. The truth of that song is often overlooked. Plus Randy's vocal power is on full display in that one.
This is one of my favorite songs and I've never listened to it without crying. Your talking about emotional? I'm a 54 year old Infantry vet. I love that you react to all these songs. Thank you.
Brother, I’m a 71 year old Vietnam Vet and this blows me out of my frame. First thing I did when got home was go to my cousins funeral who was KIA 5 days before I left country. James Thomas Coble fm asheboro, NC. Peace, Tommy. Hard times!
My Bubba went to Vietnam in 1968. He came back. But not the same. Years later the horrors he witnessed caused him to take his life, still a victim of Vietnam. I love your sincerity and thank you for your service! Yes, I cry every time
I love this song for this instills that a soldier would still protect you even after their death as a guardian angel. Especially for a stranger they never met in life. Loved this reaction!
I love this song even thought it brings me to tears every time I hear it.... breaks my heart to think of how many "old Chevys" were left behind. God bless our Service men and women...past, present and future and those left to carry on......
I like Billy You So Emotional just as much as I like Billy You So Crazy. I think that this song resonates with everyone because it reminds us that even though someone isn’t physically with you anymore you are NEVER really alone. They are as close as a thought and a memory.
@@tecs_upchurchgaming2596 it really is I can sing this whole song off the top of my head even if I've just woken up which is saying something because I can't sing lol 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
I think that's another veteran react one as well. At least every time I hear the song I think the story is about his brother and the brother having been a solider. But I might be wrong on that one.
This song has always given me the shivers... this is the first time I've heard it since my son enlisted, and let me tell ya, that brings it to a whole new level. Thank you for your service sir and also for an honest reaction.
I read SO MANY names on the Wall in DC, But ive now decided i will read EVERY name over multiple visits What an amazing song THANK YOU TO ALL VIETNAM VETS READING THIS THANK YOU TO ALLLLLL VETS THANK YOU TO ALL GOLD STAR FAMILIES ❤️❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm glad you react to this video and never apologize for being real that's what a lot of us like about you because you're passionate about these and that's amazing. And this song is one of my favorites and just watching your facial expressions and how you reacted to it is touching like you have that realness about you and like I said never apologize for being you because that's what makes watching your videos fun and amazing and interesting to me anyways. Thank you for your service and everything.
You really should do a reaction video for "Anymore" by Travis Tritt. If that one doesn't tear you up nothing will. Thank you for your service. Both of parents served also.
Before I say anything I believe the paranormal so keep that in mind while I tell this story When my mom was young she went underage drinking with a friend. and the next morning she found out he died from a car crash drinking and driving. Fast forward like 7to9 years and my dad got in a car crash and rolled his car and a fire started but someone pulled him out and saved him. My dad went crazy and searched every pool hall, bar, and motels searching for this person who saved his life but never found them. A year later my moms going though photos with my dad and he sees a picture and immediately stops my mom and says that’s the guy who saved from that car remember and my mom said are you sure my dad said yes and my mom goes it can’t be and my dad said it has to be I remember him perfectly and my mom says but he died years ago when I was young in a car crash after we were underage drinking (kid from start of story who died)
Just so you know, I prefer “Billy You So Emotional” the best. Being able to share emotion, is the mark of a real man! I don’t like being around a man who feels like he’s too big for tears. Bless your sweet soul!
People keep forgetting that we veterans will always be there when needed to protect the people of this great nation. It's just a shame most people forget them except when their in need. God bless this great nation.. We love you brother Billy..
I remember hearing this song for the first time when he debuted it at the Grand Ole Opry. Sitting between my father and step mother who both served I'm unashamed to admit I bawled. As soon as it came out I bawled again listening to it with my mother who also served. Then 9/11 happened...
You lived this you gave something a lot of people would not give. You gave your self, you gave your Service. We thank our Vets now days, our parents were not so kind. I will be to to hell before I or any of mine will disrespect a Vet. I said the same thing to my 4 Nephews in the Military, two now going into Law Enforcement.
I remember driving with everyday stress on my mind when I first heard this song. All I remember is letting go of my trivial thoughts and thinking "Wow, I just heard something special."
The history about this song is the song writer based a lot of this on real life. The writer had a friend that did 2 tours in Vietnam and he was killed about 2 weeks later driving a car just like this. The writer wanted to write a song telling about the ones that returned but died shortly after returning and also for those that didn't return but left a story. The writer went to the Memorial for those lost in Vietnam to make sure that there wasn't really a real life Andrew Malone but they did take the 2 names off the wall to create the name. What i love about this song is that it show a bond if you will about 2 soldiers from 2 different times where 1 didn't come back and 1 did bonding over the car. The spirit of Private Malone was with him to the end
Thom Shepard wrote the song. He is private Malone in the video riding shot gun. Thom wrote this song in 1992 at the age of 23. I went to high school with him in Winchester VA.
Thank you for posting this. I remember the song but couldn't remember the title or artist and I've been asking around! It so happens I know where there's a red '66 Corvette in need of a restoration too!
You should review "When the eagle cried" it's about the shit Vietnam vets were put through when they got back home. Maybe a bit dated to our current Army experience, but it's a good reflection on those that came before
As a veteran this song has always been emotional.. typically, I'm more of metal, rock etc. But this song has always given me goosebumps. Even teary eyed at times. Rest in peace to all of our SM's that didn't make it home. Also, I love how the chorus changes each time. True story telling, in music.
