On the 23rd of October 2014, 8 members of Veterans For Peace UK started a 4 day journey across the North of Ireland, in order to meet people and organisations drawn from communities which they had previously been deployed against as soldiers. In the first of four films they meet Bloody Sunday families who are still fighting for justice after over 40 years.

i live in derry and my family had alot of problems during the troubles as im catholic. i was lucky enough to be born in 2000, i was brought up with 0 mention of the troubles and i honestly didnt even know if i was catholic or prodestant until i was an adult. the more i learn the more i realise it was awful for everyone and i am honestly scared our country will go back to the way it was. i want nothing more than peace

Former British soldier (1997-2012) and Veterans For Peace member (although it's sadly disbanded in the UK now, although we do still get involved with collective organisation and activism as individuals and collectively). NI was my first deployment when I turned 18 and I'd later go on to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan. Don't worry yourself mate. Things can't go backwards now and there are too many people invested in peace for it to backslide, I would say. I only hope Ireland is reunified as one and sooner rather than later. In the meantime, keep your chin up and try not to worry buddy. All the best.

My Great Grandfather and his brother fought for the British Army on the promise of a United Ireland but we all know that they lied. Fair play to these British Soldier's coming back and that is great but need more Soldier's to do the same thing and in 1970 my Mother was shot while pregnant with me and she never had any gun's!

When do the Republicans propose holding their peace tour of Guildford , Warrington, London, Birmingham, Osnabruck, and a hundred other places ? Point to Note : I have no time for the Loyalist side either.!

Repubicans have expressed their wish to talk to the thousands of UK families affected by the conflict numerous times George (see this film from the same tour in Belfast for example: specifically 15:49 onwards, but watch the whole thing ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f1b13DjXU18.html). But the idea needs to be welcomed by those families - as republican volunteers accepted the invitation to talk from these ex-soldiers.

@@ReelNews Why so they can attempt to justify 40 years of killing ? They have a very one way view of the troubles. They want British soldiers prosecuted fro alleged crimes but won't give up their criminals ? Sorry not this call sign.

@@georgerobert4709 watch the film link we put up first - then tell us what you think. And a question for you: do you see Bloody Sunday as an "alleged" crime then? Not even the conservative government think that ...

@@ReelNews The Tories are politicians they will take whichever standpoint wins them the most votes ! Perhaps it's time the Republicans told the truth about Bloody Sunday , unfortunately like the Tories the truth is not something they are familiar with.

@@georgerobert4709 well that's a fair point about the Tories - what do you see as the truth about Bloody Sunday then? And any thoughts on the film link of Veterans for Peace in Belfast?
