@@Carimm60 I don't know how common it is now , but in the 80s and 90s alot of recruits in the navy enlisted without contracts for a specific rating ( MOS in the other branches ). They attended Apprentice Training Schools for seamanship , engineering , or aviation. Once in the navy they would work in their field then ' Strike ' for a rating . Upon advancement to E4 ( Petty Officer Third Class ) they were officially rated . The recruits that signed a contract for a particular rating were called ' Designated Strikers ' and worked inside their rating until they were advanced to E4 ( Petty Officer Third Class ) . I sailed with several undesignated seamen and firemen ( engineers) that chose their ratings after several months working undesignated. The jet is a J-35 Draken, also a bunch of tests and exercises the US Army and Air Force did concluded that helicopters have the advantage in a dogfight with fighter jets when equipped for it. Also the T-80's (not T-82) Shtora system doesn't automatically fire the tanks gun, its not linked to the FCS in any way, its a lazer detection and lazer dazzler system meant to jam and disorient any incoming lazer guided munitions, and every TC whos ever used a Shtora system turns their turret override off because otherwise it'll throw you out of the turret if your unbuttoned and not expecting it to turn the turret. Also also those ATGMs in the white house scene were Javelins. JT needs to review his factsheet before unloading.

Correct, 2.75" Hydra rocket pods are NOT sidewinders..(or even Air to air viable at all, against a fast mover!) You are correct. Its absolute horseshit. They had zero guidance capability after launch.

Didn't some mean motherfucker get a confirmed kill on a Cessna with rockets?
@bjlewis5431
@bjlewis5431 4 года назад
@@vampyr2936 Haven't heard of that one! I know of some old incidents where Zuni or Hydra style rockets have got some amazingly lucky strikes..or unlucky ones, such as the accidental launch of 1 from an F4 phantom on a carrier's deck during Vietnam, that destrroyed half the carriers fighters, on tbe opposite side of the deck, in what became a huge inferno that kept spreading to more planes, etc This was the incident that immediately decided all of today's inbuilt weapons failsafes and tech safeguards built into the Aircraft & Vehicles that carry & launch them. So yeah, unguided rockets certainly do have plenty of potential to wreak havok, but their usually 'more ass than class' where accuracy is concerned. Its always a fluke, or a serious fuckup, when they hit dead on! That's why they are designed to ripple-fire, in salvos, for area effect.

Oh my God! "Fire Birds"! When I was around five years old I was obsessed with helicopters, especially Apaches, and 'Fire Birds' was my favorite movie. My mother would rent one movie for me each weekend at Blockbuster and I would almost always ask for 'Fire Birds' - week in and week out. I must have seen that movie 30 times. Years later I still remembered the movie but I had long since forgotten the title. I was convinced I'd never come across the movie again. But here it is! Nostalgia levels through the roof. PS: As a kid there was only one thing my little half-decade-old self thought was particularly unrealistic in the movie: it was when the female pilot/gunner detached the missile assembly from the wing pylon of the helicopter and as if by magic unfolded it into a fully functional, shoulder-fired anti-air weapon system. I thought there was no way that any sort of vehicle mounted guided missile system could just be 'unplugged' in the field like that and then used as a manpad. But apparently that part was actually accurate. Mind blown.

You guys legitimized Firebirds! Lol! I was an extra and got to see some of the Apache maneuvers. They were all legit in the movie, no CGI. They were the McDonnell Douglas test pilots that did the flying. Fun times. Have to watch it again.

Outstanding. Hilarious. Would love to have been there to see JT and Danny Sanchez flick crap at each other. Knew him briefly at Ripley in Tarin Kowt before he was lost.

There is a low(ish) budget movie called “fortress” its like a knock off “Memphis Belle”. Or react to “Memphis Belle”. I love the WW2 plane movies.

The little I know about the Apache suggests that those missiles being fired were not Sidewinders, but Hydra missiles. This seems like an important detail for us to hammer over and over again.

I love the video guys. I served as a 0352 in the USMC. Just to inform you that you can use a javelin and tow missile on helicopters. The jave will lock on and you can guild the tow onto target. Not ideal weapons but it is possible.

Used to be an AVS tech, and spent a long while working on chinook simulators, during which time I got pilots to train me to fly the thing. Getting drunk with them and doing exactly what you just said, but doing pinnacle landings on the edge buildings. Fun times.

Ok, can't say where, but I've been with my Marine recon team in a blackhawk that had us on a SPIE rig about a mile up over the pacific, came ashore and put us down, we loaded up and the crew chief was really making sure we and our gear were secure. I was in the left troop seat, leg hanging out the door, M16A2 in my lap and he gave us the best 30 minute ride of my life, even doing hammerhead stalls, canyon racing, etc. Then finally popped over the ridgeline and started flying "normal" and when we set down on this dirt airstrip he told us were doing a cold shutdown, which seemed odd. The army WO pilot came back and said gents we're not gonna talk about what we just did, right. We all gave him the blank stare and "sir, I have no idea what you are talking about".

That aircraft from Fire Birds is a Saab 35 Draken (Dragon), from Sweden. First flight 1955 and was the first Supersonic fighter produced in western Europe.

In the Early 80's the Apache was equipped with stingers. I know it's not a movie or the ordinary stuff you react to but you guy really need to take a look at the Battle for Long Tan doco that came out not so long ago. A massively out numbered group of Australian soldiers were forced to hold out in a rubber plantation till support could arrive it was such a great doco
