You know, unless you live in the Bay Area, you might make more money if you take into account the drive time.

@@baileysair yes that's true. The company I work for now pays me to drive to the bay and back. Before he didn't and I told him this is not working out and I put my 2 weeks notice in and he said what do you want Rod to stay with me i said pay me drive time back and forth and he agreed, but I know alot of company don't pay drive time even around here and if the do they pay minimum wage and regular rate when we hit the customer home.

@@Rodzilla408 I worked out the math about two decades ago and figured out what you really need to make to commute from the Valley to the Bay Area and it came out to about $5 an hour more than the Valley paid just to break even. Today that would probably be closer to $9 or $10 an hour. The other factor is time spent away from home. You know missing that ball game your kid is playing or a things like that. I had a guy leave about a year ago and started doing the commute for more money. After almost a year he realized that he wasn't making anymore money because of what he spent on gas and the time spent on the road. His wife even told his kids that your dad doesn't love you that's why he is never here or gone all the time. He did come back to work for me, gets off around 4 each day is home by 4:30 and now he has a life and sees his kids. This is the reason I do not go over the hill to the Bay Area for work.
