It doesn’t matter this season, but next season you will still be able to get void overshield and woven mail because of this glaive. I think it’s insane as a Titan main.
Please try necrotic grips and volitile orbs perk. The necrotic grips procs it on melee hits it is probably bugged but the most fun i have had since thunder nades
Cross not sure if I missed it or not but what happens is you pair this with the other half with enhanced repulsar brace G falcons and use the shield to just keep the over shield up?
Through my experience, killing a weak enemy and blocking before melee a weak or low target will give you almost full sheild instantly, I paired it with necrotic grips and weavers transe for sheer crowd control
Fun fact you do not need to use the full shield charge to get overshield. Just quickly block and once you see the overshield start to come up you can get a melee kill and tops the overshield to full.
Yeah it’s super good to run into a group on enemies and just charge it for a sec and get a tiny bit of shield then a kill and full overshield constantly refreshing
@@gatlincasey1 didn't even think of that. Keep on forgetting glaive melees work with stuff like that. Necrotic grips would be another good option if your using devor warlock. You get some extra damage in whilst healing and gaining sheilds
Yeah that really changes the whole glaive tbh. Makes it so that you can use that kind of ape glaive play style in higher level content due to the increase survivability
@@Andimax11while yes in theory you can. They also will take down that overshiekd just as quick. I’m legend NF the overshield meant nothing to the ads 😢
In case you haven’t noticed, Vexcalibur’s spread pattern is the same as the spread on the guns Wyverns use. It’s not a Warp Lance exactly, but it is a lance.
This glaive is hitscan and acts like a shotgun + winterbite needs to be slow. The only exotic glaives that would benefit from this would be the original three but I don't think impulse amplifier would be enough to change those usage rates like christ they need some love
@@andrewchristensen3598 doesn’t have to be impulse amplifier, just something to the same effect cause a legendary glaive with only grave robber would feel better than any exotic glaive imo
With a range stat of 95 that seems overkill. Glaives with high range have faster projectiles. I'd much rather that the damage buff match close to melee or go beyond to a 40% buff
Getting kills refreshes the health and duration of the overshield. This thing is incredible for survivability. Shoot once, block until a small bit of overshield is applied, then get a melee kill to get the max overshield. This is the only thing in the game that refreshes the health of existing overshields and just for that reason it's an incredible weapon.
@@Kazuhira2249 Nah if you block for even 0.3 seconds it'll give you the shield allowing for a full overshield which then can be refreshed without needing to apply debuffs which in lower content most debuffs don't even get applied due to how fast things die and the mod that gives void weapons volatile doesn't work so you need to use abilities/exotics. Alongside this in higher tier content primaries are almost completely useless with how it can now take an entire clip of any none hc weapon to kill one red bar making it better to use specials and there aren't a lot of specials with it atm.
So what you’re saying is that I can add clear as a pure melee glaive main without relying solely on an armor exotic and live? HELL YEAH, HERE I COME ASHER!
The damage is significant higher with barricade probably because the perk specified void overshield as in the buff, and bubble provides an overshield but it’s not called void overshield but called armor of light
@@wintereclipse3263 Looks like it kinda works with OEM the perk procs when you activate vengeance. It doesn't refresh the OS but the glaive definitely reacts to it.
I think that first test was acting funny because Ward of Dawn gives you "Armor Of Light" not Void Overshield. So when he dropped the barricade too, the glaive recognized it and buffed damage accordingly
The glaive shoots like a shotgun, so if you one-shot an enemy, only one of the 5 projectiles hit. If you hit a higher health target, you get half your energy in one shot because all pellets hit. The glaive also completely fills your overshield on melee kills. So you can build a small overshield by using a small amount while blocking, then get a melee kill for a full overshield. Pair that with the fragment that heals you after melee kills, and the other for grenade energy on melee kills. It becomes a super powerful combo, getting your grenade insanely fast, and a full overshield every melee kill like the shoulder charge.
@@duckie5137 Melee ability related I don't think does but things like Hands on that get's super on melee kills should count. But who honestly knows with Destiny sometimes lol
I think, at the end of the day, this isn't a weapon made to shred bosses with top-tier DPS. It's made for mid-high end content, where glaives are normally too high risk to run in close, and gives you that refreshing overshield to give you the survivability you need to use a glaive in that level of content.
@@kieranrippe8218 1795 but I think it raises you up to a certain minimum like other activities but the raise is still below the max level you can be capped for the mission. Hoped that made sense
doesn't the Titan and Warlock exotic glaives already do what Vexcaliber does but better though? There's already 2 other support glaives along with multitude of the other support exotics that likely have better synergy than this so far.
@@brackenfire132 Yeah, tbf speaking of supporting exotic, the titan glaive and warlock are doing a better job than vexcalibur, especially the titan glaive with helm of Saint 14, that tiny bubble is not as bad as people think it is, so I think the vexcalibur is better playing as aggressive play style since you can refresh your overshield everytime you get a kill.
@@brackenfire132 Titan glaive is not nearly as good. you have to build FULL energy, hold reload, then put the bubble in one place. Where vexcalibur can start to keep people near you shielded with any amount of energy doesn't require a reload, and can chain the overshield as long as you get melee kills while shielded.
Can we all acknowledge that a lot of weapon archetypes have been left in the dust, badly needing a buff? The new 120rpm strand hand cannon cannot even 1 tap a dreg... certain HC, scouts, even pulse, and AR archetypes don't feel good at all (excluding exotics) Hope this gets recognition for a buff from bungie 🙏
Well it depends on the content level cap. I just beat the new exotic mission solo with my crafted Round Robin and it was one tapping all the harpies. With golden tricorn I was landing 12k shots.
Back when D2 first released, nameless midnight and midnight coup were my favorite primaries because I could just pop dregs heads in a single shot and mow down the crowds like that. Felt like a badass doing it too when I chained 6+ precision shot kills in a row
because the game went from shooter to ability spam bore my ass off type of game. i hate it. if you dont use 20 special weapons and 84 heavy´s you aint doing shit with these water guns.
For pure damage, I'd go with Winter's Bite. BUT, for utility I'd go with Vexcalibur. Run this with Controlled demolition and Offensive Bulwark. Echoes of persistence, starvation, exchange, and either domineering or cessation depending on how you want to spawn void breaches. This glaive makes it finally viable to remove Bastion on Sentinel Titan.
@@shadows_star but it does give an extra fragment, hence why I wanted echo of exchange. It stacks with devour, giving back a whopping 33% grenade back on each melee kill. But I see what you're saying. Both aspects have their own merits with this glaive 👍
I don’t need this glaive to deal damage. Woven mail + void overshield is insane. This means after this season when the volatile artifact mod is gone I can still use strand Titan and get void overshields. New favorite weapon.
@@iESCAP1SM They for sure stack. I believe that stack multiplicatively. So when you math it out I think you are around 80% DR (assuming T10 resil as well). And you have the extra health from the void overshield. Crazy tanky. Throw in recuperation on your boots to heal when you pick up and orb and you have yourself an undying Titan
personally this glaive would be worth using if the melee hits also applied volatile rounds, it would give it so much synergy tbh, especially with hunters using gyrfalcons
Thanks man. And thanks to the homies who always help you damage test. Really nice to have this info and there's no way I would know half the shit I do without you guys.
Glaive shot hits give energy like normal, while you have an over shield melee kills will refresh the shield and give full glaive energy. A trick is to guard enough to gain any amount of an overshield, then melee to get full shield and glaive energy
I think the extra melee damage comes from the Void Overshield buff and on the first damage test against Oracle with Ward, you have an overshield but you don't have the Void Overshield buff, which is probably why it was doing low damage. I think this Glaive is meant to be a support/survivability Exotic, not a boss damage one.
No its not a boss damage weapon, hardly anything in the game is specifically meant for that. But some just do have better single target DPS. While Necro does work with the glaive, its a mixed blessing. On one hand, poison spread that in fact generates shield energy for each tick, but on the other hand the poison steals a lot of kills from you, causing your overshield to not refresh because it has to be a direct melee kill
The perk refreshing the overshield gives the full timer back as well as giving the entire shield as long as the shield is on you. Essentially, shoot one shot, block with weapon, melee an enemy, get full over shield.
the actual procectile for this glaive shoots like a Wyvern 5 shots in a plus pattern with one in the middle. it took you 9 shots to fully charge it because you weren't hitting all the projectiles.
I put together a Void Warlock build with Winter's Guile. I obviously put the new fragment where you get an overshield for killing a target when your shield is depleted, but I also tested and found out that you can just drop your healing rift at the first target's feet and as soon as the overshield starts to build from the rift even a little bit you melee kill the ad and boom there's a full overshield and you're now working on building Winter's Guile stacks with the glaive exotic perk already procced not needing to fire a single shot or block at all (much quicker, far less hassle). I'm leaning into Devour too just in case I want to use the glaive quickly without wasting any time trying to get the overshield procced (just toss grenade and proceed to glaive melee) and glaive melee kills are super easy to chain Devour anyways, even better with overshield. Between Devour and overshield this glaive has tons of survivability and with Winter's Guile and the exotic glaive perk it'll dish out some good ad clearing damage really quickly. Edit: I also tried Stasis overshield and it absolutely works with that too. I did Osmiomancy with Stasis turrets to make Stasis shards for the overshield. All you need is just a tiny bit of overshield from either your healing rift or the Stasis shards and when you melee kill the overshield fills up automatically and it apparently turns into a Void overshield at that point, or so the buff says on the bottom left of the screen. Pretty cool!
I feel like Aztecross missed the point of the exotic a little bit. This probably won't be a boss damage weapon. Likely more of an ad clear option. For that, I'd recommend robber refit. This would work really well with the exotic perk, as any melee kills you get with even a partial overshield will give you a *new full overshield.* So, every time you get a melee kill, you get a full overshield with a fresh timer, which gives you bonus damage for the next kill, which gives you a new overshield, and so on. When ad clearing, you won't be standing still, so immovable refit wouldn't really benefit too much. It looks pretty fun if you like glaives and need some survivability, but definitely not good for boss damage.
fun fact picking up one stasis shard and getting stasis will turn into a full void overshield on kills just made a great supporter build with this with the new stasis gauntlets for warlock and shadebinder
Vexcalibur interacts with Necrotic Grips. While the overshield is active, you can spread volatile rounds via Necrotic Grips poison chains. Those chains proc Void Syphons for Orbs of Power and count as melee final blows for stuff like leeching. Necrotic grips also charge the energy bar. Winter's bite also interacts the same way, but the melee and necrotic chains count as stasis. Kelgorath also allows you to chain incandescent through necrotic grips.
Came in here to say we need!!!! A damage test on Regnant. This thing has some crazy roll possibilities. Like spike grenades, envious assassin and explosive light or cascade point. Also has disruption break destabilizing rounds for volatile add clear crazyness!!!
This is one of the most powerful glaives ive ever used. The survivability potential is insanely high. On titan, you get something both powerful and effective. Can also spec into some super good grenade builds.
Edge of Action has been doing the exact same thing, people just don't ever take a second look at exotics they've written off because they didn't immediately feel op when tested so everyone is now acting like this is new when really, literally nothing about Vexcalibur is new it's just a differend Edge of Action that everyone can use.
@@draenog96 I think it's a little more than just a "different Edge of Action" due to the fact instead of a discount bubble, you get a glaive that can be used way more effectively in actual melee and you don't even need to fully charge the energy to reap the defensive benefits.
@@alt3r844 the "discount bubble" has the same exact health as the big one, interacts with helm of st 14 and gives you an overshield that actually works with the entire subclass unlike this one. Also other people already pointed out, damage on glaives is irrelevant because they are utterly fucking useless in that regard so why even bother to bring it up. Vexcalibur has no real synergy with a void subclass because it's mostly it's own thing.
If you get a kill with any overshield, you'll get a void overshield. This includes Void Overshields, Armor of Light and the overshield from a Healing Rift. So it's busted strong on Voidlock.
Just got into fortnite this season which ended today and Excalibur was 1 of my favorite weapons. To come into d2 and see vexcalibur and its design be so fuego, brings a tear to my eye
I find for low to medium content, where you can chain trash kills without breaking the shield, this glaive takes the cake as it just makes surviving a breeze. As for glaives in general, I feel like the new ammo system just doesn't do it justice as the biggest benifit of a glaive to me is a mix between any seasonal champion stuns and more importantly is the ammo economy it can have in a double special build. But since ALL the glaives are in the energy slot, you can't run another weapon in the energy slot and heavy slot that match in element type. Because the new ammo system rewards matching your heavy and a special as the same energy type, and glaives are all in energy slot, you are forced to use a stasis or strand elemental match to benifit. Of which strand is the only one of those on this seasons list, and there are VERY few options. Until an exotic glaive get a kinetic, stasis, or strand version, I just don't see an exotic glaive being wanted in higher content unless it is very powerful in what it does. That said, this Vexcalibur is fun for medium content and can have a place in high end for a support player if you run blinding primary nade launcher, Vexcal, and an ammo efficient heavy like machinegun or linear. Bubble titan probably being best since you can pre apply shield then have the bubble protect the overshield.
the shield charge is based on the amount of projectiles that hit, hitting all 5 three/four times in a row is a full bar, but hitting 2/5 projectiles this shoots is less. you should save shooting something for a (physically) bigger target like a servitor or any cabal not-psion/dog enemy. The best way to use this by far is get something like 10% from 1 shot, tap the guard, then instantly get a guy with a melee attack, it fully replenishes your overshield. Its like a woven mail effect but on a glaive and void. Lucent Blades are a must on this exotic, because its part shotgun and suffers for it quite frankly. This was built with a fantasy of basically going in ham with a glaive only. outside of that specific fantasy, this exotic is "keep it in my vault and never use it bc its craftable" material.
if they made offensive bulwark work with glaives thats all I would be running, i dont understand why glaives are so limited. The class glaives should work like revision zero too where you fill a bar on the side to use their abilities and still have access to the block.
The damage buff seems more like it exists solely to make it easier to get the next melee kill with it to refresh the overshield buff. It's likely a full support weapon for survivability (super easy to proc) much like Divinity being a support weapon but for damage.
I definitely can see a build with voidlock for this glaive. immovable catalyst with healing rift will be very tanky. won't even need karnsteins with devour
put it on a void warlock with winter's guile, overshield buff + winter's x5 melee buff bumps the damage up to 86k per swing, granted the winter buff only lasts for 5 seconds but if you can keep the buff up then the vexcalibur becomes one hell of a weapon for everything you can use it on
This on a void hunter with the chest exotic, witherhoard and a good funnelweb……… theters , constant volatile, invis, overshields AND devour.. I think with tether plus witherhoard shots combined with the damage tested here you should hit at least 800k consistently on Bosses, so great dps, support for fireteams, and the best solo build in the game atm.. no need to use anything else
I'd love to see a build CENTERED around this glaive. Glaives aren't all about the damage output. If every weapon was a boss dps weapon then there wouldn't be any good builds. Need a utility weapon like Vexcalibur to come around every once in while.
@@NobleVI_343 ehhh the way difficulty is now paired with having to be close and unable to move well. Being tanky isn't really an option. Destiny is at a point where being tanky means out healing damage. Instead of stacking a ton of damage resist. I was using icefall with the glaive and woven mail. Problem is there's no way(that I found) to maintain woven mail or the over shield for long periods of time. That's assuming a boss or phalanx cabal didn't boop me 100 meters away and almost 1 shot the shield. This was during the terminal overload patrol thing btw
It has to be a “Void Overshield” buff, so either the barricade overshield, or the overshield acquired from the weapon itself in order the damage to work
Damage numbers were inconsistent in Templar because the bubble was too low on the stairwell, and not enough of the bosses body was hanging down. This makes some of your hits clip the bubble and miss the boss, therefore resulting in wonky numbers.
I know this is kind of irrelevant to the video but, as much as I like the “armor” builds in the update, I really wish they also would add back the ikelos/seraph weapon balls/mods to make builds with. And then they wouldn’t necessarily have to bring back charged with light or “well” mods/builds, but at least at another 3rd type of build/mods Into the mix, I miss having a few options that DIDNT synergize with each each other, so people were running a variety and then also so you could spec fully into 1 of them and kind of min/max it, or even tho they did not synergize you could do half and half and split the mods and do like a “dual build” so you weren’t necessarily having a super strong build in the form of all charged with light for example, but you had a build that was a little less “strong” but was flexible because you had like for example half charged with light mods and then half well of light or ikelos mods maybe. So sorry to ramble but to sum it up, 3 at least of not 4 different mod/build options I feel like I’d really enjoy to see us get. Have a great day guys thanks for reading :)❤
Vexcaliber doesn’t take 10 shots to get a full bar the problem is it’s a shotgun so it give you an ammount per pellet and minors die in only one or two pellets so it doesn’t give you much energy also keep in mind though this is an 80 rpm so the ranged fire dps is actually pretty good
This will be a niche but very fun gun for combing with devour and the volatile round finisher. You can two Melle majors then finish to make enemies volatile and then fire off the spreads to get kills and the overshield to let you close distance to a boss without having to hide like ab
@@DJET723 not just projectile speed, it is 80rpm as opposed to the default glaive 55 which is roughly a 30% faster fire rate. theoretically it could be faster or slower as comparing judgement of kelgorath and winterbite which say they both fire at 45rpm kelgorath fires much faster so numbers might not be telling the whole picture but visually Vexcalibur is the fastest firing glaive by a decent margin.
You can literally put the smallest bit of overshield on then get a kill with it and in instantly goes to full and will continue to restock to full overshield after each kill
They fumbled it with the first set of craftable exotic glaives, and this is a great improvement. The exotic Trait is a park of the intrinsic Trait, even! It's not a single perk on the weapon! I really really really really REALLY want to have a legitimate reason to craft and level those weapons for harder content, but as they are now the only viable one to use is Edge of Action. Here's hoping they get updated sometime soon...
You shouldn't be holding block to get a full overshield, nor do you need to do a lot of range damage for this weapon to be effective. You just need a single hitmarker. This is enough to allow you to proc the overshield by blocking, and as soon as you have the tiniest sliver of overshield, kill an ad and then you have the full overshield. As far as I can tell this isn't a crazy damage weapon. What makes it special is its increased survivability (particularly with subclasses other than void Titan, in my case). This allows you to ape around with the glaive in much higher level activities without dying due to the overshield survivability, and it allows me to do this in subclasses outside of void Titan (because Bungie still refuses to allow glaives to synergize with arc and solar Titan) Despite the crazy damage of Winterbite, I think Vexcaliber might be my new favorite glaive.
From what I have tested myself, the Hunter armor Sealed Aramkara graspes works with this glave to refill the mag on a single melee hit so the mk3 and 4 really just aren't worth it as a Hunter
There is a funny interaction using Vexcalibur with Necrotic Grip. The poison damage from melee registers as 'projectile hit' so it builds up the glaive's shield even if you are to just swing away. Mix this with Devour + weakening grenade fragment + Vortex grenade and your golden lol.
This will definitely helps w the Void champion Assassin build. The peregrines Greave exotic. No more waiting cooldown on barricade. So your mod buildcrafting can focus on grenade or melee build. Damn!
Good support weapon that helps with surviving while giving good dmg against ADs... perfect for void Titan if your running volatile & offensive bulwark instead of Bastion. Only issue is you lose the melee benefit from Offensive Bulwark... but gets the grenade recharge buff so you can use it to help loop Volatile Rounds + Volatile Flow is back also helping so even more AD clear. Lastly keeping teammates and your self alive is helpful. Plus you could just run void legendary power weapons that aren't exotic. Weapons like Retrofit Escapade (which got more ammo via the Machinegun buff) or even legendary void rockets.
Ok it may not be meta shifting, but I love the aesthetic and I can synergize it with Lucent Blades and my crafted Other Half, once Winterbite is reenabled I may change my tune but right now I'm here for this thing.
It's not a damage weapon per say. It's more of a utility weapon. You get a shield, the entire team gets a shield and you can stay alive in melee range way more with it. Not everything needs to be looked at from a raid dps perspective. I think it's fine that we get some more unique utility weapons in the game.
When I tried with offensive bulwark it was doing 55k on melee hits, and 45k without. But it must have been something else then, because I cannot replicate it.
I feel like you kinda glossed over melee kills full refreshing the over shield. You can use a tiny amount to get a sliver of shield, then one melee will do the rest. Extremely easy ad clear because after that first kill you refresh it in full with every kill unless it breaks.
Can you do dmg testing without specific armor exotics please? As a hunter I literally have zero exotics that boost melee dmg so when I’m watching these the numbers you get mean nothing because it’s not obtainable by every class. Keep up the great vids though!
if you grant yourself an overshield for a split second ( say 10 to 25%) , then kill a minor enemy, would that top off the overshield ? since it just needs you to have an os. then the damage loop of the weapon does not require you to have full energy always. hell that could be a better rework for the class glaives, where they work as siphons ( like devils ruin charge) . this is truly a great exotic glaive. its set a new standard for exotic glaives if ya ask me.
maybe it’s just me but i’ve found that mashing melee + shield performs a faster combo on floating enemies because i notice sometimes that cross raises the shield thus slowing his combo
