This wasn’t really a contest though. I think in a real live contest JB would have won. Shamrock is a generic Dirty South cookie cutter rapper. Funny that he wore a shirt in Detroit that said “You Lame” cuzz thats what I thought every time he opened his grill holster.
Yeah, it's bizarre how much your mindset changes by age 30 - 35. But this was cool to us because our internet experience wasn't anything like now. We were the kids of AOL chat, MySpace (putting all kinds of bling on your page), Napster, Kazaa, and Limewire.
@@airpegasus5167That’s fair in defense of the original “commentor’s” post…He did have the strongest business mindset out of all of them, for sure…But, it was “The White RAPPER Show” and as a rapper/lyricist, your boy Johnny Brown was gahhhbage 🗑️
If this show came out today, JB would have like 10 mil instagram followers. Can’t believe he didn’t blow up. He’s got some music online and it’s pretty damn good. I think he’s more into film making but the dude is talented.
Crazy to think we were watching the culture change in front of our eyes. This was probably the last show that reflected on where and how Hiphop was built on. The history they went back to. Even from Carwarz vs Fly Away we were watching the south start to take over and see commercial rap overtake Hiphop
At the time this show aired the dirty south rap was way more popular. Looking back at this show now John Brown was definitely the best artist, his 16 on this episode was probably the best on the entire show. Hallelujah Hollaback
Jon Brown they set you up bro!! Lmao I love how embarrassed he is like when you see your new cool friends when you're with your nerdy old friend that never caught up. Priceless 😅
He said "this is my friend... uh". Then he got distant from the dude on camera like he was uncomfortable being seen with him. If it's your friend, why act so weird?
I like how throughout the whole show john brown stuck to the suburbs lore lmao i definitely seen his improvement throughout the show and how smart he really was really he was mostly good at making hooks but he showed his lyrical side in the end he actually was he seemed like the only one with strategy but in these shows its always the ones that flow through the game that win
I think the show really painted John Brown as a real clown. But honestly, I feel like he was being real. He dressed dope, he had bars, his flow and delivery was on point. His lyrics are actually deep. Sham was cool and all...but he's your typical southern rapper. Nothing special about him. Persia was cool too...but typical NY "badest bitch" type...that shit is played out in 97'. The rest of the kids on the show were just plain stupid. I think Mic Stylez tried out for this show and didn't get casted...thank god. That would have ruined him.
i heard mic stylez made it to the pilot episode then quit at the end in the elimination , they told him it was just pilot and the show hasnt even really started yet but he just straight up said he didnt wannna be a part of it and walked out
I always randomly think about this show and remember John brown getting robbed. Watching this as an adult for the first time since I was like 15, I still think he got robbed
I saw this when it first aired. John rapped about Real issues, Shamrock did a standard Atlanta hip-hop song. The South was really popular at the time and they made a choice.
They possibly saw John Brown as too much of a gimmick rapper. He was definitely unique and better than Shamrock though. They probably thought Shamrock being generic was a good thing.
I Remembered The Song Car Wars By John Brown That Randomly Popped In Head & Ended Up Watching The Whole Season Again. After All These Years 1 Rapper Stood Out The Most That Showed Me He Really Should’ve Won .
26:57 Pay attention...the music industry is hell. That's why they did the corporate move and chose Shamrock because southern music was the hottest thing at that time and JB was and i quote "too deep". Some o bullshit.
"being a lyricist doesn't matter anymore.." ???? WHAT DID THAT FOOL JUST SAY? and what the hell is he producing? being a dope lyricist is VERY important. a lot of popular stuff people listen to will have you thinking being a lyricist doesn't matter because they are just garbage. but no, my favorite rappers are dope lyricists.
21:00 lmaoooo he was jellous that he was sleeping around other men lollllllll wtf yo i didn't even remember this part about john brown man... i know i would have caught it even though i was younger
@@fleamarketmixtape3793 bro you can tell they was on some other shit cause at 19:59 Search said _"so who's this?"_ and he ain't know what to say 😂😂 boyfriend was prolly mad like "you didn't tell them about me Jonathan?" 😂
It was a stupid show...But when it came out I was addicted..But Brown won this ..He did the competitions exactly how they wanted..an killed it with pure originality....an look all these years later an none of them ever went anywhere ....Like no one knows who they are
danksta316 Problem is Brown just stands there and doesn't move. Being a dope lyricist isn't the same thing as being a dope Emcee. Brown is the better spitter, but Shamrock was the better performer as much as I hate how that sounds -- cuz dude trips over his own words and his own jewelry... but he kept it hype, more complete a package I suppose. If John Brown didn't act like a fucking gargoyle statue he definitely would have won.
nls8520 lmao word I remember watching it on TV and while dude pissed me off the whole season, biggest fuckin cornball ever, he had the best final song.
Sad part is they cut out some of John browns verse 1 on car wars. VH1 censored the verse and the message hence the machine could not let him, even tho he smoked the whole show ever episode
i never watched the finals but i thought that shamrock was way off beat most of the time. He def rocked the crowd better and was alot more comfortable on state. But jon browns song was better.
+Saeed Villanueva that is some straight southern slang tho .. not sayin its a dope line but it prob. sounds extra whack to you cuz of "pretty" , cuz of where you live.. they say shit like that in the south tho ((like u sayin, got my flias on lookin so fresh )) Those "stuntin" sort of "game speakin" lines are popular ((uber lyrical shit isn't really popular there it's considered "nerd shit"))
It seems like a good bulk of the footage during their performances is edited. It look like the crowd is either chewing really strangely or signing along to something completely different. They wouldn't be singing along to some trash they've never heard before to begin with. I guess they didn't have enough footage of them actually feeling their songs. No surprise there.
John Brown was mad because the " friend " they chose to give him support was probably out of left field. Meanwhile, they chose a ride or die homie for Shamrock, that much was evident. John mentioned something along the lines of " why didn't they pick someone from my rap group? " This guy was probably the last dude he wanted to see, it also doesn't help that the dude had the most beta feminine body language ever, how is that suppose to give you confidence?
They played John Brown this whole episode; between his cringier than usual snippets, that weirdo "friend" they brought in, and having him lose when he clearly had the better performance.
When I watched this show when it was airing I remember being relieved that Shamrock won because I thought he was hands down the best.. rewatching it all these years later, John Brown was easily the best all season. Sure Shamrock shined in the eliminations, but his voice sounds horrible over a beat and he can't flow either. John Brown low-key sounded nice on all his songs, never froze up or forgot his lines, and actually had some pretty nice bars.. he was robbed! 😂
I watched this when it originally broadcasted…I didnt get that this wasn’t a competition, it was a social experiment…a sort of Gonzo Documentary…but had this been a square, legit competition John Brown would have taken this. Brown surprised me with his song writing…good stuff. Shamrock is ANY & EVERY Dirty South rapper.
"Them haters live for me to lose thats why I'm dying to win" Reading through these comments like damn I'm not the only one who knows John got robbed😂😂😂
JB should've won but honestly I could've picked 10 white rappers from my hometown that seriously could've killed these dudes. I get the feeling they picked rappers that would've made the show as funny as it could be.
