Weird. I have an old intel i5 and an old GTX 970 and Express used to run fairly well ... much better since HitFilm 14 (got a huge performance boost).

@@ramasubbusrinivasan2872 I'm a gamer. It's 3 generations (9xx, 10xx, 20xx, 30xx) behind and I'm starting to feel it. I had to tweak the settings in Borderlands 3 to get it to run at a decent framerate and don't even want to buy Cyberpunk 2077 until I upgrade so to me it feels old but I guess when compared to other people who don't upgrade to just shy of cutting edge every 5 years or so it would be a very decent GPU. I'm looking to upgrade my entire rig in March 2021 and I'm planning on getting a RTX 3070 or 3080. My current rig will go to my daughter and I'll be able to use it as a render machine for longer renders (in HitFilm or Blender if I ever get to learning how to use Blender) if needed.

Yeah, I've used that technique, but it absolutely murders the hardware. I have an i7 with a RTX2070S, and even with hardware encoding it takes ages. IDK, maybe it's Hitfilm's fault, it has serious issues with a couple of PNGs with an extrusion effect being moved around in 3D space as well.

@@TheOrangeRanger - Well, sounds like my old config. It had problems playing three videos at once too, had to prerender them.

@@Bjornieman Well, it's not that it was 3 videos. It was 3 duplicate effects in one composite shot. I had each of them on one color on the RGB, then offset positions a little bit. I did that for the first part of my Baldi's Basics video, and my webcam for Buddy Simulator 1984, where I also used, I think, the telephone effect on the audio.

in the olden times i preferred gom mix pro but now hitfilm is a heavenly editor if any fx home people see this can u reply fast pls......

Couple of things oyu can do. *1- Transcode to a more editor friendly codec.* You have 2 types of codec really ... compressed and uncompressed. The typical mp4 files we get from our cameras like DSLRs are compressed for smaller file size normally in something like h.264 the problem is that your editor has to decode those frames as well as do all the other work it has to do and H.264 was made for file size and trades that off wirth a lot more work for the CPU. So converting your files to something BIGGER but uncompressed takes that workload off the editor / CPU. You want to transcode this off as Prores or DNXHD or something more CPU friendly. *2- User lower resolution Proxies.* Editing a 4k project? Make a copy of those files at 720p and use those for your rough pass then re-link those files to the original 4K files once you are done. I might be doing this one wrong, someone let me know if there is a better way. So you make your project 4K but import the 720p when you add a clip to your timeline tell it to use the timeline properties and NOT the file properties then right click the clip in the timeline > Transform > Fit to Frame. The 720p files will be much easier to scrub through, even stretched to 4k. Don't do any sharpening yet since the stretched 720p (to 4k) file will look much softer, keep that stuff to the end when you are ready to do your color grading and the likes. Once you've done all your cutting and masking and all the jazz and are down to color grading, sharpening ... right click the media file in the media bin and relink then choose the corresponding 4k file. Do that for all the video clips. Next, you'll need to select all the clips in your timeline and your composite shots and TRANSFORM > FIT TO FRAME. Or else they will all be zoomed in . If you did it correctly (I messed up a project recently) all your masks and transforms and the likes should be fine but you MIGHT have to tweak things slightly. *3- Lower Playback quality in HitFilm* On your viewer and trimmer window in the lower right corner you can set the quality of the previews. Don't bring it too low or else your effects won't actually render. *4 - Pre Render your comps and clips.* You'll need a lot of Hard Drive space for this but you can pre-render clips and comps and HitFilm will use that pre-render instead of trying to render on the fly. This is great if you have a comp shot that is finished (or finished enough for now). You pre-render it and HitFilm just reads a finished temp file for that clip instead of trying to render the effects on the fly. *Final thoughts* Doing all of this is a bit of work but will make the editor run much faster in the long run. A small note about prerender. Set the prerender folder to a drive that has a lot of room and you can go clear out the prerenders periodically byt going to FILE > OPTIONS > PRE-RENDER > Delete All-=Prerendres. That's probably something you want ot do when you finish a project. :)

RU-vid's compression is problematic. Perhaps attempt with the Vimeo preset for a higher bitrate and quality. Keep us posted!

Rotoscoping fast moving items is hard unless you were shooting at a super fast shutter angle to reduce the motion blur. If you are planning on needing to roto out something that moves fast plan to shoot at a faster shutter speed and then you can add in motion blur to make it look more "real" in post. It will make your roto work so much easier.

@@EricLefebvrePhotography oh nice suggestion I will defiantly incorporate that in the future. I assume both shutterspeed and frame rate can aid with this concept? I guess the lesson here is to consider all potential uses for your shot and prepare accordingly.

You can get a similar distortion effect in Hitfilm Express, but it's gonna straight-up murder your hardware. You'll need to triplicate your footage, set blend mode on every copy to Add, and then use the Hue, Saturation and Lightness effect to split each copy into a separate channel (for Red, zero the saturation on Green and Blue channels, for Green, zero Red and Blue, for Blue, zero Red and Green), then slightly move each copy apart.

@@jaagravshroff3258 - I made a mistake in my advice: it's not the Hue, Saturation and Lightness effect, but Levels Histogram effect. You need to zero the outputs on two of the three channels for every copy using that, but otherwise do as written earlier.

I think it's more of a question of style rather than authenticity. Just like bullet wounds, muzzle flashes, gun sounds, silencer sounds ... really don't sound / look in movies like they do in real life.
