Nothing will ever replace the feeling of looking for that one movie that you wanted to watch, meeting people that liked the same stuff as you, buying some pizza after renting the movie, etc.
I have a lot of physical media. It is mostly DvD's. I still do have VHS tapes, and two, or three VCR's. I would get more into VHS tapes if it was not for the fact that they do not age well, especially due to weather conditions, or after many uses. However, given that the price of a VHS tape at most thrift stores are only around 25 cents it is not a bad bet. I've got a few documentaries, like box sets on VHS. I have Casablanca, The Fellowship of the Rings; The extended Version, Gone with the Wind, The Goonies, and the box set of Back to the Future, The Terminator ect... There is something special about VHS.
i hate streaming cuz i gotta figure out what platform its on and subscribe to it and eventually the title gets removed and shuffled to another platform 😮💨
VHS tapes recently are starting to go up in price , Here in Pennsylvania, a lot of people are starting to buy them again.VHS is more than nostalgia, they are history and very comfortable to watch on a Friday night.Nothing like making popcorn 🍿 and putting in a VHS tape of ur choice.❤Great video.Everybody keep collecting those VHS tapes! 3:16
I was born in the early 80s and I still have a collection of VHS and will always have it. Same with dvds and blue rays, I love them all, also video games. There is a magical nostalgia behind it and it will always be a part of our history!
I have a question, do you know a company who cleans the white stuff (I think it's mildew) that gets on the VHS tape reel? Also, anyone who sells clear protection covers for VHS (the thick plastic ones that protect against light, dust, and stuff)? And maybe a company who sells VHS case covers - covers with the artwork on them?
wow glad to see this. I love it we need more people like this. I go back and watch the VHS myself hit hits home for me it's Nostalgia for me, I grew up in the 80s and 90s
10 Perks of VHS: 1: They're cheap 2: You actually own them. 3: The claims of them all "degrading" or becoming "unusable" 15 years ago turned out to be false. (unlike DVDs who rot even if you take care of them) 4: You don't need an internet connection. 5: The only ads are at the very beginning of the tape, and you actually enjoy them as slices of history 6:If you have a normal sized CRT TV, they look almost indistinguishable from DVDs, usually with a warmer, softer, more comfortable viewing and listening experience. 7:You don't have to find where you were if you have to go do something. Just press stop, and the movie is exactly where you left it. Can't even do that with DVDs in some cases. 8: They're no bigger than your average book, and typically lighter. 9: All the best movies are on VHS, mostly in their original form, untouched by greedy studios and directors named George Lucas. 10: If you get one of those turbo speed Mitsubishi VCRs, rewinding takes 10 seconds.
I find nowadays with streaming for movies it’s more of a waste of time…yeah hear the sound of clicking well browsing through. Its just nice to plug in a movie and watch it the old fashion way.
VHS & vcr’s bringing millions of dollars of revenue every year on eBay!! It’s time for somebody to make a VHS player for the market. It’s about the size of a VHS rewinder with a UHD connection that would be dope very simple and millions of these things would sell millions.😎🤘💯
I love using old DVD’s and listening to old CD’s from when I was little. It’s not as convenient as streaming platforms like Netflix. But it’s just nostalgic. It feels different, Friday night walking to a blockbuster grabbing a movie and pizza. Heading home with friends and just watching old movies and tapes.
This gets me so excited. I love physical media, especially vhs tapes. I love the smell of them and the feeling of popping it in your player and seeing the static on screen. 😅 I want to have an entire room someday dedicated to these things. It's nice to see a positive come from covid lol
I agree with him. I believe VHS are starting to come back. I also have hundreds for sale on my website as well. I was born in the early 80s and grew up with them. Long live the VHS.
I don't miss 80's/90's shlock horror a bit, but there's tons of movies on vhs/dvd that have not been digitized for streaming. Having a hard copy of a hard-to-find title is a form of insurance for posterity, especially if you digitize it yourself.
I am surprised at that. I don't know what the hype is about. I have never missed VHS they never had good quality picture and never lasted long. They are junk. The only people that really want VHS back are those old farts who do not understand new technology and have money to burn. I
@@Judyhopps-1iqmy brother in Christ, I’m 14 years old, yet I too collect vhs tapes. It not just “old farts” who want them. You’ve missed the point entirely as to why tapes are making a comeback. For some, it’s the novelty of collecting something from a bygone era, for others it might be nostalgia, and for a few, it’s both. Picture quality and the retro feel of tapes play a big roll in these factors. Also, may I add, tapes don’t degrade nearly as fast some say they do. I have tapes from the late 80’s, yet they play just fine. It’s really all about where and how you store them that determines the quality of your tapes. If you don’t like tapes, then fine, whatever floats your boat, but don’t act like an a$$hole while expressing it.
@@OrangeBoiiii Oh please, you're 14 years old and you're already acting like some wise old sage of the VHS gods? Give me a break. I've heard all the arguments for why tapes are making a comeback, and they honestly sound like a load of crap. Sure, some people might find the nostalgia factor appealing and the novelty of collecting something from a bygone era, but does that really justify paying inflated prices for tapes that can break, get damaged, and fade over time? I think not. And don't get me started on the picture quality.
@@OrangeBoiiii "And your age checks out. Always speaking from the perspective of youth, as if you know all there is to know about the world. But I suppose that's what being young is about, thinking you know everything."
I collect VHS tapes and have for the last 10 year, let's not kid ourselves rare VHS tapes are only going to go up in value just like sealed video games from the 90's did....
I will always keep my VHS collection no matter what people say. I like the "there's Netflix" and "Streaming" services" have people just completely been brainwashed into not "owning" anything. Good lord.......
Applaud the effort but those prices are nuts. Even rare or sealed VHS are only really worth a few bucks max. Even then you have to find the right person.
Things moved away from analogue because the value of media was starting to drop sharply The media was gradually stopping to be about happiness and memories and more about fleeting pleasure Whenever humans really love something, they always give it a memorable physical representation in the real world. The less we value something the farther away we go from the physical things.
🎉🎉🥳🎉🎉 Loooooooooving this!!!! Right on!! Good for you!!!! 😀👍👍👍👍💯Bride of Chucky soooooo good!!! I still use my VCR and VHS collection. 😍😍😍 Cheers from Saskatchewan, Canada!!! 🇨🇦
As someone also born in 1996 I get the craze. I’ve recently started gathering a few films on vhs after inheriting my late Nana’s vcr (and the small collection of vhs tapes she had). There’s something that just feels so great about putting one of those cassettes in instead of a disc or searching for it on streaming services. Just this week after finally cleaning it I’ve added a few more from scouring EBay. Don’t want to go too overboard as don’t have the room for too many of them.
I don’t understand how people like this guy, born in 1996, can claim to have any nostalgia or interest in things like movies on VHS or malls. They were barely even alive to experience them. I was born in 1979 and absolutely miss these things like crazy. I still buy my movies on 4K blu-ray, even though it’s gotten more difficult and I mainly have to buy them online now. But I grew up throughout all of the 80’s and 90’s, was really into movies, and went to malls a lot. Both of which in their heydays. I feel sorry for these “kids” who are seemingly growing up in the ruins, so to speak, or things like this. There was nothing like going to the video store or to a mall back in the day and I still miss it SO much. But wandering around in dead malls or going to video places today that look like flea markets? It really makes me sad.
I was born in 1991 so I was the last generation to actually use tapes. My home videos of me groewing up were all on VHS using a 1988 Sharp Camcorder. I used to tape my favorite shows when I was a little kid. VHS is AWESOME!
Question: Suppose VHS tapes start being made again. How will they look on a 16x9 screen, vs a 4x3? Will the image know how to stretch or compress (like a DVD)?
A bunch of misguided nostalgics and kids attracted to the allure of "retro" media a return does not make. Yep I am all for physical Media such as Blu -Ray that offers me my favourite movies in its best possible way in HD and great sound. I remember very well VHS and I have zero desire to watch a fuzzy, pan-scanned version of the movies I love.
I want people to show me where is vhs tapes are a problem yet I know there not a problem at all it's the people who is the problem not the vhs tape itself

I’m totally with the physical media aspect, but I really don’t understand what’s so great about VHS when Blu Rays and 4K discs exist. It’s not even like vinyl records where you can argue for better quality. VHS is just a worse format.
People are lying people now days about blue ray disc movies doesn't get scratche up yet I have some myself and I know everything about blue ray disc movies doesn't play at all when they get scratche up bad enough
