It is never stated how long the timeskip was, but it is estimated by fans to be about 7-8 years. Yes, Vi was put into jail by Marcus right after the end of episode 3. But he did it partly to save her from Silco - and lied to Silco that he killed her. Also, Caitlyn hit only metal parts of Sevika on purpose - she is not a ruthless killer. Unlike, you know... another blue-haired girl.

So yeah... as said last episode, Caitlyn and Jayce really aren't going to be a thing - Cupcake doesn't swing that way, and more importantly has a far better option! And yes Vi was in prison the whole time since Episode 3 and doesn't know what has been going on. As you say Silko thought she was dead as Marcus just stuffed her into Stillwater. Oh, and Caitlyn deliberately targets the metal piece, it's not by accident. That ties back into her skill as shown at the start, and her being a 'good' person. Mel is an amazing good character, you're right that Jayce is very easily swayed.

You're not wrong about the Silco/Vander parallels. One of the core story elements of the show is inviting comparisons between pairs of characters who are similar in many ways--yet have some crucial difference between them. A story analyst named schnee went into it at some length here on RU-vid. His stuff has spoilers, obviously, but is worth a look when you finish your reaction view.
