Vibration only collars can serve a purpose but if you plan on allowing your dog off leash then you must implement proper e collar training

We have a 8 month old doberman and our collar has both, vibrate and shock ( and a beep tone too) and he responds well to both. But I agree that occasionally he will get to where he ignores the vibration and the shock is needed. I have learned when to used each with him and it works great! Alot of times in the home the vibrate will be all he needs. So I agree with you, both are very effective and I love that ours has options all on one collar. Great video!

As e-collars can be bought but are not allowed to be used here in Germany and I'd like to have a fallback tool for recall for my Finnish Spitz, just to ensure I can call her even out of hunting mode (which is very important as the next busy street is never too far away, even if you're in the forest or on a field). So I'd like to have a professional opinion, if the PG version could be able to be that failsafe even if it provides a short moment of interruption to get her focus. The alternative would be to leave her on the 20m leash. As I said there isn't really a market for training collars here in Germany so no people to ask for experiences. I'd appreciate any amount of information.

Larry, the vibration mode is use to teach, mould and enhance wanted behaviours and is not being uses for consequences. There is a pager method system that uses the vibration as a cue to trigger dog natural impulses instead of the opposite to using the stimulus to suppress/control a dog impulses. I have dogs that wheel off from the chase and come back when I pager (vibrate) solely because of the strength of the positively reinforced impulse habit and no consequences or positive punishment by stimulus was needed. So yes, you can have your dog off leash using the vibration mode due to the reliability of the dog doing the behaviours you want them to do. I'm not saying that the pager will stop behaviours but the pager can also be used to condition the dog to the nick (perset stim of a fraction of a second) simple by placing the nick in the same place as where the pager was. Lets say that one time you are speaking about where the dog may possibly not respond to the vibration then the nick will replace the pager to fortify the refusal. Another advantage of dog trainers/pet owners/ handlers utilizing the pager function of the ecollar is the dog will never be hurt while they are learning and gaining the experience/skills necessary to be able to use the tool.

I bought the EZ-900 bc of the tone/vibrate. My intention is to use the collar exactly as Larry uses it. However, for behaviors such as counter/table surfing, entering off-limit rooms (I live in Japan and a toilet accident on a tatami floor is not going to be given a possibility of happening) the tone/vibrate warnings will precede the slightly higher preset ‘boost’ stim level. And the higher stem that follows makes the message clear. The Pavlovian response desired will be if he responds to the tone/vibrate by ceasing the behavior bc he has learned what follows the tone/vibrate is a stim at a sufficiently high level to cause him to cease and desist the undesirable behavior. Larry, if you read this of course I’d be very interested on your take on this plan. Like all owners of popular channels you can’t answer most questions, much less all of them, but if both interest and time exist for you….

IMO the greatest joys from owning a dog come from off-leash experiences. Walking with your dog and watching him/her being free. Having enough control to keep the dog safe and/or prevent ‘socially unacceptable behaviors’. I feel pity for other dogs that never get to experience that and a combination of pity and disdain for owners who prevent such because of simple ignorance and/or, and here it comes, social pressure.

Larry, I have a 7 month old GSD and what is funny with her is she reacts completely different to the 2 stimuli. On shock she responds great on an 8 while training with no distractions. If she gets distracted she doesn't really pay attention to shit on the shock side that I feel comfortable with. That said, vibration, for some reason every since I started the conditioning with her, she just stops everything and lays down. I didn't train that or anything, that has just always been her natural reaction, so I just left that and when she gets distracted and I need her attention, vibrate. Anyway I had a question with how to help my dog stay calm with other people. When someone comes over she just gets super excited and does this cry whimper noise. She will eventually calm down, but I would rather a barking alert when someone comes to the house, not an overly excited whimpering dog wanting attention. I don't want an overly aggressive dog either though. Can you help me out?

This is a six-year-old RU-vid but I would like a nice vibration collar with levels. I had gotten one that was cheap and it had no level. It just had vibration and I’m wondering if you could please let me know of a name or a couple of names of one that has levels, and if Larry doesn’t answer this can somebody else thank you very much.

Agreed. My 16 month old would be dead from chasing if I'd not remote collar trained her. I do think vibrate collars have a place for deaf dogs. Well explained Larry. Thank you :)

Thanks for the explanation, I have a 7yr old golden retriever that is a big kid, he is perfect except for walks on a leash. If I go outside without a leash, he stays near me but, with a leash on, he tugs, pulls, etc. What do you think his problem is?

Larry: I've noticed with my very stubborn Bulldogs & Highstrung the vibration does nothing to them. Now n level 6 on the E-Collar it works as you have seen with my very stubborn American Bulldog. when I use it they just look backwards on go on with what they was doing.

Larry,...again ery valuable information. Best channel on dog training! Can I ask you when is the right age to introduce the e-collar? Do you ever use it to correct bad behaviour or only to reinforce commands? Thanks!

Andreas Muecher I'm no professional but I've read over and over that the recommended age to begin is no sooner than 6 months. Again, not a professional, just what I've read and seen on YT

@@paigeschrachta3319 I’ve also heard 6 m.o. as a guideline, though many say it depends on the dog. I received my Educator EZ-900 recently and my Golden just turned 5 m.o. I put it on him and found the ‘working level’. I’m using the comfort pads and he noticed at 11 (best I remember). But the reaction was a bit more noticeable than many clips where I saw the working level being checking. Not anything where he looked looked he was in pain, just more of a reaction. He would scratch at times. I did this several times with the same results. I worked with him just a bit and he responded to come and sit without any outward sign of negatively noticing the collar. I even did tap/reward several times while he was on ‘sit’ and again he seemed fine. My plan is to set his working level for every session and even check it often during the first sessions. But this all relates to the clip bc I bought the EZ-900 bc of the tone/vibrate. My intention is to use those for warnings in an effort to limit the use of higher stim levels. They will be used less frequently and therefore will likely get his attention. To whoever just liked my post…, Cool! Thanks! A 4-year-old post and a random response to a comment on a comment gets attention. People are really reading Larry’s channel, not just perusing.

It's a little different but I just wanna say that I don't like the vibration on e collars at all. My parents dog responds great to the stim but you use vibrate accidently and he will come running back up to the house with his ears back and whale eyed

would you recommend a pager collar in countries where e-collars are illegal?

Good question but nobody answers :-(. e- collars will be illegal in my country next year. HOW do I train my Galgo from chasing rabbits and cats!
@bharthwaj6099
@bharthwaj6099 3 года назад
@@ROBDee-ho9lu Yes you can absolutely use a pager collar if e collar is banned in your country. You just need to put in the time to condition your dog properly to the pager collar. If you done with that then you will have 90% reliability for sure. Can't say 100% coz it's not an e collar. It's better to have a long lead on in new places and also in places which have a lot of small animals since you can't correct your dog with a pager collar. Also the response to the pager is different from dog to dog some respond really well like my dog but I use both depending on the place we are at.

@@bharthwaj6099 I bought a pager collar but my dog was scared to death, even when I put it (which I did) on the lowest 'buzz' possible. I brought it back. I think a collar like that is not for every dog, there are exeptions and my dog is one of them. In all circumstances (in the house and outside) she is very,. very obedient. Only chasing cats and rabbits is another story. She is almost 10 yrs old so the rest of her life I will cope with her 'wanting to hunt'. Which she was told to do many yrs plus as a Galgo it is in her genes. I have 2 other dogs and that's why it almost would be impossible to walk with them while 1 should wear a pager. I only have 2 hands....

@bharthwaj6099 3 года назад
@@ROBDee-ho9lu yeah I get you. A lot of dogs get scared for the vibration. Some dogs even get scared for the vibration setting in a normal e collar. I guess if she is 10 years old she would probably won't need any collar. It's only the young ones who are very troublesome 😂😂. All tools are not for all dogs. I wish the best for you and your dogs ❤️✌️

Has anyone gone from a vibrating collar to an e collar
@frechwieoskar8052
@frechwieoskar8052 7 месяцев назад
There must be millions of dogs in countries where e-collars are illegal.... Irony off. Its just not true. I have some experience with e-collars and it always was: IF the dog is properly conditioned he will stop chasing in an early phase without collars. If not, it won't stop until you shock him so hard he cannot move. This is animal abuse. Using it as slight/soft negative reinforcer for conditioning (like in NEPOPO System) is okay. Still not legal in many countries.
