Well said. I was the lead trainer for invisible fence of the carolinas for years. One of the largest dealerships in the country. A lot of my fence clients stayed with me for obedience. I ran into this a lot, even with dogs that never tried to blow through the fence (thats bad containment training, period, but it happens!). What I found most helpful is doing recalls away from a neighborhood; out in the woods, a parking lot, a field, anything different. The dogs a little more on edge, but it helps tell em what the stim is for. NOT location, NOT their position in the yard but their own activity. Once they know THEY are in control of the stim, they don’t get nearly as confused. It’s a common enough problem. Stay low, amp up motivation, and keep moving! Thanks Larry
Something I picked up from homesteaders who train animals to electric fences .. to train the animal if you put the boundaries of the electric fence up against a physical barrier it reinforces them to back up instead of bolting through it
Very interesting thoughts. We just purchased an ecollar for some training on our 1 year old Standard Poodle. We have used invisible fence with her and she learned the first day. We keep the collar on her and she never breaks through the fence line and no longer gets shocked. On occasion she may get the beep alert, but I don’t even think that is often. My question to you is - will using the ecollar undue the invisible fence or confuse her? I never thought about trying to wean her off the invisible fence collar. How do you recommend I should proceed?
So glad you address that some do not know how to use a e collar. Amen and well stated. It not the dog but the person who using it. Like how you stated use of food and praise. How long do you use a e collar before it no longer needed? My only issue is that it use consistently, incorrectly and the dog never graduates away from the e-collar in references to bad experiences. (Jmo) Believe a dog should graduate from a e collar, not used as punishment, or a crutch. We love your videos and information.🙄
We installed invisible fence and after training for first three hours my dog just staying the bed no food no treats no water even not stepping out of bed for even pee.. almost 12 hours .. and my dog is 5 years old and this is first time..she we stay put on this? Is it normal reaction ?
