Worked on all navigable waterways in the Mississippi River system to pay my way through college. When I graduated with a degree in transportation, I owed $150.00. It took me 1 1/2 years longer than normal, but I had no debt! I worked for others in transportation until I started my over-the-road trailer leasing business. After fourteen years in retirement, I am grateful to have had the will to take advantage of the opportunities available to me. -
Thanks for sharing this (just wasn't long enough! lol). I've always been sufficiently impressed to see 'em 3-wide up here on the Cumberland in TN and KY or over on the Tennessee but this is where it's really impressive. Enjoyed the view from the wheelhouse, for I've always wondered what the perspective was like. Very cool! I'd still rather try backing a truck into a tight place, for at least the surface isn't moving. lol Try the GoPro sometime, if you haven't already. Great cams!
This is where I've seen most of this river by bank..and it looks like it's challenging as hell to navigate, right after a big bend like that coming down.
My favorite bridge to watch by far, Vicksburg southbound with a strong current and crosswind, Trying to get the head of the tow around to point at the smaller west side spands without doing any flanking is the turn, even when you think you’re doing Fine you can fall right off of it...!!
Glad you like. I have a nice HD video camera. It didn't go with me last trip. Most of the better video footage is going into project we are working on. Most of the youtube is from iPhone, except my daughters basketball stuff.
You dont owe that bridge a dime cap you did a great job hammer down just wondering i have never been on a boat like that what makes it chatter like it dose great video have a great day be safe.
2fast65 gotta remember, it’s not only moving on it’s own power, it’s also getting pushed by the river, when it’s making a turn, it’s also sliding. I would say that it’s more than likely drawing air or more turbulent water under the ship and around the props. Happens a good bit when we are offshore fighting current trying to stay off the rigs
Thanks for the ride Captain, If we may be so bold to suggest a GoPro fixed focus water proof small compact cam.1080p (comes with mounts) for under 400 bucks, just a thought.
Not for navigation. It sounds like something that would work, but in practical application it really would serve little purpose, and be way more trouble than it’s worth.
the video is great but the audio my boys don't understand why they can't watch your content any more. clean up your potty mouth and double your viewers! no matter what stay safe!!! '
I've been a merchant marine for a short time and a construction worker most of my working life, and the captain's language is about par for the course, normal, in my experience in an all-male blue collar environment.
