Rosti is a good pop rock and country singer; it should either have been her or Norway's Guldbransen. Yet it was the soppy Sean Sherrard aka. Johnny Logan who won, maybe because he sang in English...
Proud that my country the Netherlands gave this awesome song 8 points (25% of the total votes) so underrated, this should be at least in top 3 of 1987 or even better the winner, cause it is one of my ever time favourites in Eurovision, 12 points from me!
Somehow I have a soft spot for Finland in Eurovision and like the majority of their entries. Right from the early sixties to now. But this is one of my absolute favorites from Finland and from Eurovision in general. Such an amazing song and great looking performance by a fantastic singer. Finland was so underrated on many occasions. This deserved at least top 5.
The true winner of 1987, my number 1, definitely. Unfortunately only the juries from Norway (10 points) and my own country The Netherlands (8 points) understood the strength and power of this song. Very underrated.
+Paul the player It's fucking horrible... I still prefer Vicky Rosti's version, but every other version of this song will only prove how good it is and that it has become a true classic!
Amazing! This is still one of the most played Eurovision entries in Finland, though it didn't do that well. But it seems that didn't matter at the end ;)
No, it didn't matter at all! I even learned all the lyrics in Finnish, and what they mean, having almost no knowledge of Finnish otherwise, and I sing along with Vicky when I listen to it on RU-vid!!!

Se nyt on vaan muodissa. Se oli toisaalta modernismin uskon aikaa, välillä näkyy taiteilijiden avaruus-, scifi-puvuissa. Toisaalta tuli Mad Maxin post-apocalyptinen visio. Ja punkin 'no future, no hope'. Kojon 'Nuku pommiin' on mun mielestä yhä yks parhaita euroviisulauluja.
After this latest Eurovision in Tel Aviv, I looked this one up and remember it well. Great, great song and should have won back then! BTW, I'm from the US and yes, a handful of us follow the Eurovision! :)
The white lands are getting darker, singing trees go silent Children of the streets go into hiding when a storm is rising Let's fear our fears away, nothing could take me away When love sticks tightly to you and the heart gets warmer Though a hundred lightnings strike fire, and all of life explodes Nobody can take love away from me, there's always hope When a hundred suns shine on us And a ship is ready to depart I will take our love to a safe place And we'll find a new land

Amazing song. I never heard anything before, and I was browsing different song contests in Eurovision. The best rock-pop version from among the contemporaries. Love it from the Philippines.
Bandido894 The start of this Finnish song is very similar to the start of Eye of tiger from Survivor....😂😂 and a good song as the song of Survivor, but who remembers of the film?? The song Eye of tiger is a classic, the film a crap..
MasterlordSWE To me it sounds very much like the song "Dobra stara vremena" by Novi Fosili who appeared on this contest (but with other song). I wonder how they didn't accused them of plagiarism on the spot
Fantastic mix of Schlager of Hard Rock! Vicky Rosti sings great and I like how they wear all black, should've been another Top 10 finish for Finland. How did that dud from UK score more than this in 1987?
Johnny Logan (IRL) voitti 1987 laululla "Hold me now". 7 vuotta ennen tätä voittoa hän jo voitti eli tuttu ääni . Ilmeisesti Virve oli aikaansa edellä räjähtävällä laulullaan. Suomenkieli on Euroopassa aina ollut aliarvostettu.
Was this lady a sign for me. Her name is spelled like like I spell mine, she is from the country my boyfriend was born and this song is from the year he was born!!!
What a lovely and catchy song!! How could she only come 15th?? Had it been nowadays with televote, I am pretty sure it would have been on the Top 5 :-)
Definitely the number 1 of 1987, 12 points from me. Happy that at least my country the Netherlands gave Finland 8 points and Norway gave 10, the highest two. But very unfairly only 15, should have at least been top 5! As so many Finnish entries totally underrated and others overrated, Finland 1983, 1985, 1987 should have all ended in top 3.
Not my fave Eurovision song by a long shot but still a great song. Typifies a great era in Eurovision during the 80s when the contest was fun and the songs were good
@@nefertitius77 It's a wonderful song too and I love it, but I still think that Sata salamaa and Lapponia are better. Maybe I'm too old to forget Lapponia ;-)
Just love this! Some Finnish songs were a bit daft, but this is great and it should have been in the top 10 easily. So much better that all the hard/soft rock songs that the Finns send nowadays!
i am norwegian,i understand and can talk and write swedish, can read and understand danish(not talk)....but Finnish i can't understand at ALL!!! TOTALLY different from norwegian, danish and swedish..But even i can't understand a word, this is among the best songs in the finnish language which has been in Eurovision song contest(very nice melody)...This one and Hengailaan from 1984.
I like Hengaillaan too, more than this. It's one of the few which I don't think as a 'Eurovision song'. I think one of the problems of the Finns has always been, that they have tried to make the entry songs 'Eurovision style'. We feel the songs have to be of certain style, to make it in the ESC. 'We can't just send any Finnish song'. But sometimes a protest song breaks through, because many of us also see the ESC somewhat pretentious, theatrical - a bit fake. So there was Kojo with 'Nuku pommiin' (Sleep into bomb) - a political song, ironical of the nuclear arms race in the 80's. Then there was Lordi. Finns are sports people, so winning is more important for many, than how it comes :) I like some metal songs for their rhythm and melody. I just think it's unwise to dabble with the dark side of the force, my young padawan. The news tell every day what happen, when we let the dark side to affect our thinking, killing others and cheating etc. Hengaillaan is of Finnish evergreens, and I didn't even remeber it's a Eurovision song. So the song is authentically good :) I didn't even remember Sata Salamaa was a ESC song, I just feel it was schlager, which is not my thing. The best song for me from Vicky, which is nicely rock, and just good otherwise (well, not all rock is good), - is Kun Chicago kuoli - 'When Chicago died'.
Finnish is an Uralic language (just like Estonian or Hungarian), that's why you don't understand it (your languages are North Germanic Indo-European). But I agree Rosti really rocked in this song! She or "your" Kate Gulbrandsen (with "Mitt Liv") should have won instead of Johnny Logan.
Finlandia nos sorprendió en 1987 con esta gran canción,con mucha fuerza y un pop rock nórdico,a pesar de obtener un humilde 15 puesto, fue una de las mejores de 1987.
I feel tenderness beside you, a dream of an exhausted land The last dream gives us shelter from the wind of the night I see the truth in your hope, you create a flame by whispering Only love will take us there, it saves us Though a hundred lightnings strike fire, and all of life explodes Nobody can take love away from me, there's always hope When a hundred suns shine on us And a ship is ready to depart I will take our love to a safe place And we'll find a new land
There's a thousand worlds out there, and one of them is ours Though a hundred lightnings strike fire, and all of life explodes I will take our love to a safe place And we'll find a new land I will take our love to a safe place I will change this land to another white land
Lähelläs lämpösi saan unelma uupuvan maan Viimeinen haave viimalta yön meille suojan antaa Totuuden toivossas nään liekin luot kuiskaten tään Vain rakkaus meidät perille vie se meidät pelastaa Vaik sata salamaa iskee tulta ja koko elämä räjähtää Ei rakkautta voi riistää multa, toivo jäljelle jää Kun sata aurinkoo meille paistaa Ja laiva valmis on nousemaan Minä turvaan vien tämän rakkauden Ja me löydämme uuden maan
