Leroy Walker Sr., who lost his son Joey in the mass shootings that took place in Lewiston, Maine, speaks with CNN's Poppy Harlow about how he's processing grief. #CNN #News
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that." -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This father is shining light through the darkness. Forgiveness and love will help heal. Your son sounded like a great and noble man. ❤
“Thank god we have you people to keep our loved ones alive for a few more days” … what a profound statement. We honor those who are gone by remembering who they are and what they did. Long Live Joey Walker.
Mr. Walker, I’m so sorry for the loss of your son, Joey. He is a hero! My heart hurts for you and Joey’s family. May he Rest In Peace and May God bless you and his family. You are a very kind human being. 🙏😢
We are so sorry for the loss of your son. Sounds like you taught him great things that made him a great man. I know you are very proud of him. May God ease your loss and pain. Blessings.
Sir, if you are reading these comments: I am so very sorry for your loss. May all the memories you created with your son be a source of comfort and joy to you and all who loved him.
This man is an exemplary human being. His son must have been amazing, too. So terribly, terribly sorry for his loss and thankful to have been able to watch him speak despite his pain. He's so inspirational.
This man has all the qualities I aspire to be. The character and resilience to maintain faith in humanity after having what is most precious taken from him is magnanimous and inspiring. I want to give Leroy a hug and be his friend. My heart goes out to Leroy and his family. But take solace in the fact that his son was lucky enough to grow up and have such an amazing father. I will remember Leroy’s message on how to remain resilient and gracious if I encounter anything a fraction of his tragedy.
This man has a heart of gold. He’s so proud of his son and it’s so sad everyone has to go through this. At some point I wonder when Republicans will stop sacrificing American lives just to keep power and their donors happy. They need to fix our frickin gun laws.
This is heart breaking. We have to in his son's name do what he started and that is raise money for veterans. Praying that someone will continue with what he started. I will definitely donate. 😔😪😭❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Mr. Walker you have the most pure heart. Your beautiful light shines bright for all to see. Through such adversity you came out with so much love. You are an inspiration. All of us can take a lesson from you. It’s not a good bye, it’s a see you later ❤ I am sorry for the loss of your daughter and son. I am praying for your healing ❤️🩹
My Gramma used to say "God doesn't hear the prayers of the wicked". Telling people to pray is not effective against guns. The only way to stop these killings is to stop people who shouldn't own military weapons from owning military weapons.
This is a remarkable man. He shouldn’t have to go through this. I don’t think I’d be able to find the grace in my heart like he has for the killer. I hope he finds some peace and I hope someone will take up his son’s cause to help veterans; it would be a touching tribute.
i absolutely love the reporter for asking him what HIS needs are. thank you for that! his father made powerful and admirable statements. may all of these families be surrounding by support as they navigate through this tragedy! their lives will never be the same. it's so unfair to them! none of them deserved this.
He’s safe now. May Joey Walker be remembered as a hero and a beautiful soul. And may Leroy Walker Sr. be seen and heard as he continues to spread love and empathy in the wake of the worst thing to ever happen to him. YOU ARE A HERO as well, sir. Bless you❤
Leroy ❤❤❤❤ sending you so much love to you and your family ❤️🕊️🙏 your strength and kindness is so powerful 💫 I have tears too and am sending you prayers and angels ❤️
Mr Leroy from another part of the world im sending my condolences to and your family , I got tears for your son and listening to you, i pray for all the family's
That poor father. Parents should not see their children die. This is so sad. I will never understand why USA has no background checks and massive restriction in how many and what sorts of guns people can have.
Tell me you know nothing about the USA’s gun laws and restrictions without telling you don’t know anything about USA’s gun laws and restrictions… The shooter was just released from a mental institution and his guns were supposed to be taken away. Why weren’t they? The LAW wasn’t followed at all and another preventable shooting happened due to government ineptitude
@@auspicious93 easier. At many gun shows, you can buy a gun from private sellers without a background check or anything and walk out. No paperwork at all. Purchases from private sellers, whether at a gun show or elsewhere, do not require a background check in most states.
Seriously America. It's time you did something about that gun violence problem you have, it's heartbreaking to see such bright human souls taken away too quickly. This father is remarkable, and what his son did was remarkable, but it should not be needed in first place :(
Our antiquated system of laws and rules needs a serious overhaul! This is NOT your grandfather's America, and never will be again. Times change and so should our rules and expectations of human decency. If the killer - after screaming to people around him that he was having some very real problems - had gotten help, or at least been taken off the streets and away from his weapons, this would not have happened. We need to wake up!
This man is the best of true Christianity. Many “Christians” do not understand the message or the heart of Jesus. But he does. If you are not a believer, you just witnessed the power of God’s love through this man.
The law failed this man. There were many people telling law enforcement and they did nothing several times. His army command failed. Obviously a nonexistent god doesn’t give a shit about this man. I feel sad for him.
I admire the strength of people that can forgive. In my life I've chosen to forgive people that have abused and hurt me, not because they deserve it, but because it's who I AM-who I choose to be. I like that about me and I admire this man tremendously. Forgiving someone who has hurt you, especially when they hurt you selfishly or on purpose is the absolute highest Christlike behavior we can practice while on this earth. I suggest that it's the the goal of questioning wwjd. The comfort we are promised is the peace experienced by the absence of hate within ourselves. At least that's been my experience. God never said it would be easy...He said it would be worth it. I believe that to be true. I think rich rewards awaits this faithful man. I'm praying that all who are affected might have the peace, comfort, and strength as they endure their greif and look forward to justice, remembering that forgiveness is not acceptance. ❤
@@lucybarrington4634 I don't think it's supposed to be easy. That's what makes it so valuable to the person than can achieve it. It's incredibly difficult and often takes a very long time. 💕
I am not Living in America . I live in Denmark🇩🇰 I cried when I listen to this loving father . But one thing is in my mind . Why did’t they knew it could happend in Maine ? Why did they let the insane Gun law let this happend ? Dont they read news paper Dont they see news ? Dont they Count the over 500 Gun mass murder in their country ? Dont they Think it can happend tomorrow ? If they are so naive it is not to belive . And I am still in tears for this father But you must wake up USA . NRA owns you
It’s okay for this father to forgive the shooter. But for you cnn, you’d go deeper to analysis the reason for this tragedy, not just show us “how kind this father is”
Time to stock up on 2nd Am supplies. With this type of operation being played out and with the border being wide open. THINK USA , your family is dependent on you !
in most countries, families would defend their children and love ones to death here in America , you get to watch cold blood shooting in schools and malls everyday
