The 1st of a two night stand at Hampton under the disguise as "The Warlocks". These two shows were often described as simply magical.
This 2nd set starts off with a huge bang with a BIG "Help on the Way ~ slipknot ~ Franklin's Tower" which seems to have all the necessary energy and inspiration (in addition to it being played for the 1st time since Sept 1985). The "Eyes of the World" which follows, after "Victim", is very strong, lively & dynamic. The "Need a Miracle" out of space is rockin' with Jerry swaying to the beat ! This segues into "The Wheel" (on target) then "Gimme Some Lovin'". Although Weir turns to Billy (Kreutzmann) shrugging his shoulders, as if to say "not this time, sorry, Jer's decision", this is also nailed and hammered. This set ends with a pristine and glissening "Morning Dew". "Bid You Goodnight" encore (only the 4th time played since New Years 1978 !)

These two nights I’ve always found myself replaying over the years. Back in the trading tape days just to be able to pop it in was something but the day I found video to this legendary run, mind blown, Garcia on Wolf, just wowed!!!

This show was billed as the Warlocks. I was there and it was a fantastic show. First Attics of my life in many years was played this night.

Not Jerry’s Theme song. That could be West LA. Many songs sing the same theme. Hence my above comment. Everybody’s theme. And one of the coolest in your face songs from the GD canon til Jerry’s goodbye in 95.

The Warlocks was the original name of the band, but another band had that name so t hey couldn't use it. From there it went to The Grateful Dead. These 2 nights, they went undercover as The Warlocks (their original name) and no-one knew it was The Dead until the first night was over.

Thanks, but if you notice, I was replying to someone who said that they were billed as the Warlocks, the name of one of Weir's solo band names, and they erased their comment. Just to clear something up for you too, EVERYONE knew it was the GD when the shows were booked. Even the town knew it was. So to say that nobody knew until the first night is over is way off.

+mclearyb b there's never a clear answer to a question like that. i think it may draw from that, but many other experiences. to me it's about inner strife questioning the fate of our souls, "must i choose to lose our win?"
