Victor Borge takes help from another man when he has trouble playing the piano and turning the sheet music at the same time. Video is from the dvd "The best of victor Borge - act one and two.
I think there was a guy on RU-vid who found some recordings of Victor Borge on a VHS tape he bought from a thrift shop. I realized this was the same guy after seeing this video
I'm pretty sure he can read music. It's blatantly obvious when to turn. Also with Victor being a professional player, he would easily be memorialise the pieces.
When the lady cackles and Victor says "Pardon me Madam; are you laying eggs", I thought I would never recover from laughter. He was PURE GENIOUS in every sense of the words!!!!!!
What happens when the lights don't come when you call them? I don't know. I do, Long Time No See. Also: I run the lights. You run the lights? I run the lights. That's against the law. 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 Absolutely brilliant.
The page turner is Victor's son Ronald in a real life. Victor Borge (real name Borge Rosenbaum) is one of a kind, a true genius. I was fortunate to play concerts with him, as a member of the orchestra. Thank you Victor for all great moments you gave to millions of people. Rest in Peace.
My brother was a piano tuner and he tuned the pianos for all the famous concert pianists that came to Grand Rapids,Michigan and my brother met Victor Borge on one of his concerts and about 8 years later he came again to Grand Rapids and after meeting thousands of people worldwide he saw my brother fine tuning the piano and he said,Hello again George, how are you!? My brother was so surprised that he could still remember my brother by his first name.
+Suzy Tresco You know what is so tragic. This man came to the US to lay music. When he learned that a comedian could earn more money making people laugh than a concert pianist could making people think he swore the he would never again play classic music for anything but a joke. - And, he didn't. How tragic such talent should have gone to waste. And what a brilliant man he was.
robert shaw ;-) I am NOT a classical music fan generally speaking AT ALL ... sorta kinda !!!! BUT Mr Borga introduced classical to at least 5 women i can still name today (30yrs post seeing him live) - so I reckon he was incredible and YES it is a shame he could NEVER EVER have made as much money staying with classical only --- but laughing and classical is the BEST MEDICINE for us all !! God bless Victor Borga - and someone pls take up where he left us ?!?!?
Hahaha... really? But you are right the whole facial features are alike and honestly his son was pretty quite handsome than the other average boys at that time and this day... I love this funny musical concert playing joke. It also makes my day.......STF......
His son who went by the name VB, or VeeBee. He and his dad, Mr Borge, created the bit and continued to fine-tune it over the years. I do want to correct one thing you said though. VeeBee was Borge's STAGE Manager (as was I for a year after VB stopped). As Stage Manager you are there for every performance in fact "calling the light"ing cues, making sure everything is set-up and run correctly, and assisting the star in any number of ways. It's a grueling job, as Borge would often play a different city five or six nights a week for months at a time. If the airlines had had frequent flyer programs back during my days with Borge, I'd be flying for free still today 2019!
My grandparents had this on VHS. I remember watching this as a kid and laughing hysterically with them. Oh, the wonderful days of being a kid at my grandparents’ house.
+dyad2r1 He wasn't Jewish, since his mother wasn't. His father was -- but that didn't matter, according to the rules. So the only way Borge could have been Jewish would have been for him to convert to Judaism.
123456789 987654321 When I posted that comment ages ago, I was making a joke. However, since then I actually have suffered real depression for the first time. This video didn't cure it, but it helped a lot. So my comment stands either way.
Peter Hanson so glad to read that. I know what is to going through a hard time and the struggles that comes with that, and I know that people joke with depression, but knowing too that when the real pain comes, it's true that small things like this helps a lot, and also that a simple smile is the the first step. Congrats, man.
It's a callback to an earlier joke, wherein Borge says "Negi! Negi!" to ward-off over-eager Japanese picture-takers by claiming to have bad breath ("Onion! Onion!" in Japanese, supposedly).
He was a true paino legend. The story goes that they had to rush him to the airport in the WWII days when, at a concert, he said, "The Germans aren't so bad - they're just asking if anyone's seen their dog; he's this (making a mock 'heil htler' salute) tall!" What a great gent...
He came to El Camino College in Torrance, CA, in May 1984, to perform. I had a front-row seat. At one point I made the mistake of laughing at the wrong time--and got his attention immediately. He turned to face me and asked, "Vhat and vhere did you eat?" 😂
From the few shows I saw him on tv in the late 70s to the early 80s, reading about him and rediscovering these on RU-vid, I feel compelled to write my appreciation for his talent. A humorous, kind departed soul. Thank you for your years of laughter, enjoyment and entertainment.
Someone who loved music and tried to make others love it too. And he knew that it is the best way to show it with humour. And he was really good in music and in comedy.
The timid page turner is something of a hero of mine. I recall seeing a version of this as a child and in that particular skit I recall really seeing him nervous over turning pages. I realized at that moment that movement and timing can be just as funny as jokes. Being something of a homebrewed comic, I know the imagination can be more powerful than a laugh track. Probably my first inspiration into comedy. Thank you Timid Page Turner, wherever you are "calling the lights".
What Very few people know, is that, THAT was actually his son in real life, who was the page turner. I happen to have a book Victor Borge wrote where he tells about this. Hillarious!! I had this on Video, so it's a Real pleasure to be able to watch on RU-vid, Thanks Johal91a
Victor shows that the best comedy is done without the use of fowl language or crude humor. His comedy is one-of-a-kind and it's a shame this man has died. He reminds me so much of my grandfather to where I feel like every time I watch this, I can't help but smile.
Every few years of my life I'll come back to do a rabbit hole dive of victor borge's videos and forget all about them until eventually returning. Thanks youtube. :)
@@ericmoorev4741 lmaooo dude you're down bad this girl has been inactive for 8 years and ou try to start a conversation in the comments of a youtube video xD
As a young person whose television watching was limited by the educational requirements of my parents, i watched public tv channels. Victor always made me laugh😊 Fond memories ❤
Me too... Thankfully. Reminds me of my younger bro who played as well. I've got his piano.., not quite his skill- but I got to dance to him playing, growing up... Mostly dancing "Flamenco" dance to Malageña...
I totally forgot about this guy. Incredible talent! Not only can play the hell out of the piano but funny as all hell. He could bring a room to tears with a look 👀
Thank you for sharing the incomparable talent of Victor Borge on YOU TUBE. Not only does it afford many of us to relive seeing his hilarious comedy on tv, it introduces him to newer generations who never had that opportunity. He was one of a kind and is sorely missed by his many fans. Thanks for all the happiness you brought to us, Victor!
there are these very rare performers characters who find a unique niche in their humor, and exploit it so perfectly that they are almost impossible shoes to fill. Nobody will ever do it as well. Well this Borge is one of them. If anyone else tries to copy these running jokes or this premise for humor, they will never escape comparison. Best not to try and just let RU-vid give us this master whenever we need him.
He is wonderful. I remember there was a bunch of band members who did the same thing with band instruments pretending to be band students. There was even a bunch of professional singers who also did that kind of comedy about church choirs.
I am starting a new tradition for Shabbat. I will be sharing videos of "laughs" each week on Fridays. Some may not have heard of Victor Borge so please bear with me - he was a brilliant pianist and comedian. Sit back, put earphones on and enjoy my Shabbat wish to you, of laughter for all friends, family, people of Israel and to those who love Israel. You shall be blessed. SHABBAT SHALOM
Being a musician and having actually been a page turner for people, I don't think I have ever had it as rough as that poor man. Perfectly executed by both men. There was a little girl taking a nap, so it was all I could do to keep from busting out laughing. Thanks for posting!!!!!!
Hi fake bach... how did Amadeus say Salieri? with a fart?.. I love that movie and am waiting for tcm to play it again.. most movies and shows have too many farts and f==k jokes but I love to play too many notes to eleven
The first time I'm seeing him. Saw him in one of those shorts and I chuckled but watching a whole act he had me laughing good. Definitely going to have to find more!
GOOD God How I miss this guy as well as all of the famous comedians Abbott and Costello , Red Skelton , Milton Berle and so many others . Victor's best musical bit was when he played " The Willem Tell Overture " ( aka " The Theme From The Lone Ranger " ). upside down and backwards
Pure comic genius, coupled with being a brilliant pianist and musician. RIP Victor - but thanks to RU-vid, we are able to enjoy your unrivalled musical talent, humour, and showmanship .............
I am stunned ! I never heard of him until i saw him on tv just now and looked him up! Is it safe to say the Charlie Chaplin of Classical music? Wish i knew of him years ago. Poetry in motion !
