@Daryl Licht, I don't know if he said it or not, but it fits. Milton Friedman considered himself a classic liberal. Once upon a time liberalism was about freedom. Then Wilson and his buddies came along and liberalism became about the progressive movement or socialism, and it went downhill from there. Libertarians are the closest thing to classic liberals today.
@Daryl Licht, there is a definite difference between free speech and domestic terrorism. We need to be calling things what they really are. I like the idea of a rational revolution and a restoration of the consent of the governed. As a nation, we have lost so much from giving in to the noise of the tiniest minorities. There is a "majority rules" dynamic to our way of life. People need to understand that the answer will be 'no' occasionally.
The lefts' control of education is ironclad. They would never let him be mandatory material. If we could get more people to just listen to an hour of him we could really turn a lot of people. He is so great because he can deliver a very sensible assessment of the political realities and tells you the story of how we arrived here.

The banker elites including the Federal Reserve. These guys are in charge of the money supply and have zero interest in your well being. They are responsible for trillions upon trillions of dollars being spent on all sorts of things like pointless wars for profit and excessive inflation in things like housing, healthcare, and education. If a sufficient number of people can not be bothered to take the most basic level of interest in the country of their birth or their citizenship they are doomed. As Mark Steyn said "Sometimes a culture can become too stupid to survive." The sad fact is the official records show that 66.7% of the eligible voting public voted in the last Presidential election. That shows a pathetic lack of interest in the country's future. If only an extra 10% of eligible people voted in the coming mid-terms that would be a 15 million vote increase. It is essential that everybody actively attempts to enable that increase - whether it means driving a sick or elderly person or picking up someone without a vehicle or berating some relative over the dinner table who would otherwise not vote - whatever. Get out and vote for your future.

His real focus and concern is on doing research, developing ideas, and writing good books as he understands the contemporary commentary is less imperative to shaping his philosophical legacy, which will endure. Convincing people here and now, rather than just doing good work with the understanding that it will serve as enduring inspiration for future generations is something of a fool’s errand. The former fight can be left to the Ben Shapiro’s of the world.

But my point in referencing Ben Shapiro (or even someone like Rush Limbaugh), is that their talent is specifically engaging in regular [daily] rhetoric designed for mass consumption, while Hanson is of a different class of pundit that has more substantial credentials and is aiming more to influence policymakers and other serious thinkers. It's also a generational thing; while Hanson has adapted to social media and has pivoted nicely into the podcast space especially recently, Shapiro grew up with the internet. He also has much more energy, which translates to speed and precision as well as output. What we are witnessing fundamentally is a civil cold war that is multidimensional, and each of these voices plays a different role in the emergent counterculture of our day.

What he spends a lot of time doing is outlining values that are no longer appreciated or rewarded in our society. He gives historical references as to why those values have held up over time. Outlining problems is vital to creating solutions. I suspect he doesn't want top-down solutions from a central planning leftist style 5 year plan... he wants to outline the values and the solutions will emerge locally within the community that shares those values. What's not to like??

The problem is that almost everything said by VDH will go over the heads of the majority of the population. It's the same in the UK: there's no understanding of our country's history or the importance of holding the government to account; there is only a petty tribalism and an atmosphere of narrow self-interest.

Hopefully it doesn’t come to it, but the reason why all constitutional amendments can exist is because of the 2nd Amendment. When a tyrannical government takes control of much of our lives including deciding if our vote counts, we have the 2nd Amendment to make the government act right. Putting it quite simply of course.
