In celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary, Diane and I decided to go to Victoria, BC where we first met in 1969 at a local teen dance after participating with our high school bands in the Victoria Day parade.
Background:
I first met Diane, the love of my life, in May 1969 at a high school dance following the annual Victoria Day parade in Victoria, British Columbia. Earlier that day, we had both participated in the parade with our respective high school bands, Diane marching with the Evergreen High School drill team, and I playing baritone with the Sammamish High School marching band. 53 years later, Diane and I decided to return to Victoria BC to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary, this time driving onto the Coho ferry in our Subaru Outback, bringing along our two-year-old Norwegian Elkhound, and departing from Port Angeles, Washington, not on the Princess Marguerite from Seattle as we had done for three consecutive years as high school students (sophomore-senior years). Instead of staying at hotels in downtown Victoria with our bandmates, we rented a waterfront cottage Airbnb at Prospect Lake for two nights. From here, we went on several familiar adventures exploring Butchart Gardens and Beacon Hill Park, and a couple of new adventures near Victoria. Although the old Airbnb cottage was not as good as we had hoped, our 50th anniversary visit to Victoria was an amazing experience, and we will certainly return again!
