Breeding programs should be a last resort for species at immediate risk of extinction. They take a up a lot of resources, and will make less of an impact overall on animals with a higher population. If a breeding program can only hold a certain number of individuals, releasing 100 individuals into the wild is going to make more of an impact on a population of 200 than a population of 10,000 like this pigeon. At this point, the best thing to do is protect the species and preserve its native habitat and spread awareness.
@@Pandacalifornia True, but there are already a lot of breeding programs for pigeons specifically. It's a very big hobby, and I know a lot of people who would love nothing more than to keep this pigeon happy and living

In Indonesia, there is a similar bird like this called Mambruk, closely related to Victoria crown pigeon. Mambruk is an endemic Papuan bird live in the lowland tropical rainforest.
Now that's one fancy endangered bird. I hope they have a reserve of habitat for them to ensure their survival. These are some marvelous creatures who need to be saved.
I got a new job at my zoo, and these birds were in the rainforest dome that we have. They're our friendliest birds. They usually walk right up to the guests, and with interpreters like us, they pick up dead leaves and sticks and drop them at our feet. It's a shame they're neat threatened. They're wonderful! 🥰
i've never seen anything more elegant and graceful as this. kinda reminds me of a peacock but wow that is one beautiful pigeon. please don't hunt them and lower their numbers, humans. 😢
Birds and fowls usually swallow small stones for their digestion. There's a legend in Indonesia that this particular birds usually swallow diamond in the wild. Local people usually hunt this bird for the diamond in their digestion system. Fascinating.
As someone who owns pigeons I would love to keep one of those ones as a pet. I looked it up and people can but they cost a lot. And it may depend on where you live if it’s even aloud.
There are a couple in a Norwegian zoo. I think they're breeding them and they are very well cared for. I've been fascinated with them at the zoo since I was a kid. I love that they're giant pigeons and have a really interesting call
