So few of his stories survive, it's a crying shame. Terry Nation withdrew permission for the BBC to use the Daleks as he was trying to sell them to US TV. This meant that Troughton's introductory story became unavailable and foreign TV stations were reluctant to buy they second Doctor's series. Thus they became "worthless".

And that, is why Patrick Troughton's second incarnation of The Doctor, is, and will always be, my favourite. Such a charming performance. I started watching Doctor Who in 1968, after a few years of my parents not allowing me to, as I had seen the Cybermen in 1966's 'The Tenth Planet', when I was three, and they scared the bejeezus out of me, and gave me nightmares for ages afterwards. You just knew, though, that you'd be safe with this scruffy little man in charge. A lovely remaster there. Not many people realise that the TARDIS console was light green - it appears white under harsh studio lights, when filmed.

My mother wrote to each of the three Doctors (as there were then) to get their autographs for my tenth birthday. Patrick had run out of Dr Who photos to send out, so sent a personal one taken on his boat on the Norfolk Broads together with a lovely letter saying that he hoped I didn't mind too much. He must have had a batch printed at his own cost. It felt so much more personal and caring than a publicity shot.

This is a late ass reply but it needs to be said that if not for Hartnell and THEN Troughton afterward, the show would’ve died. Troughton had to sell the idea of being the same man after the regeneration part, it had to be believable for kids too as that was the prime demographic for the show back then.
@jeffarmstrong1308

I am old enough to have been watching Doctor Who since the William Hartnell days but I didn't really get into it until Patrick Troughton came along. I was a bit disappointed when he changed but quickly came to enjoy the new doctor. I will always regards Patrick Troughton as 'my' Doctor thanks to his quirky portrayal. I've seen all 13 Doctors so far (15 if you count the War Doctor and Peter Cushing) and I'm looking forward to seeing who will step into the TARDIS next.

@@bobblum5973 Add in the classic Hartnell line... "That is the Time Path Detector. it';s been a part of the TARDIS ever since I built it" And coupled with what Troughton says in this clip.. and also stated with that air of truthfulness, (but also an air of unhidden self pride) "Where did you get it?" "Why... I built it!" And also, in The Wheel In Space, a medical doctor examines The Doctor, and makes no comment on, or expresses surprise at, anything when he examines his chest. Indicating the absence of Two hearts. When people talk about modern day deconstruction, it pretty much started with the Pertwee Regeneration (not decrying them, but just saying they took it down a different path)
@bobblum5973
@bobblum5973 2 года назад
@@Erekose2023 Yes, that's all part of them finding their way with the Doctor's backstory. There are many times where they tried to tease bits of his/her past while keeping as much mystery as possible. In Sylvester McCoy's era there were some good ones, like his reference to the Hand of Omega (I think it was) and how "we had troubles with it" (or similar phrasing) to imply he was involved with it at that time. He immediately restated it as "they" instead of "we", again making us think he's lying or at least covering up his past. I actually like them not filling in all the details, it gives room for character growth. Even the advent of the War Doctor was worked in quite well, and I was glad to see them build up the continuity to include Paul McGann's 8th Doctor and tie together original Who, movie, and new Who as one long narrative.
@magicaltour1
@magicaltour1 3 месяца назад
I like to think, working retrospectively, that the Doctor claimed to have built the TARDIS and was a human from the future so the Time Lords couldn’t track him. Though I also like Robert Holmes’ idea that the Time Lords knew where he was the whole time, and even guided him without him knowing.

I like how the Doctor says he perfected time travel when he well knows he stole the TARDIS. “The Doctor lies” said River Song. 😆

The Doctor's bring folks in the TARDIS like they're hoping to REALLY impress them. I'm surprised there's not mood lighting and Barry White playing in the background! (Well the musical equivalent!)

On a more somber note I wish I had never watched the Timeless child episode, It really diminishes the classic Doctors. It was more special...more mysterious when he was 450 years old and a on the run time lord who was still just in his second incarnation. But now he is actually this immortal being who is heaven knows how old. And Pat T's doctor is just one in a long line of Doctors Who can never be beaten really. There is no real tension anymore when u watch classic or even new WHO. The Doctor can just keep on regenerating with no end and no consequences. I'll bet Chris Chibnal is the kind of person who ruins everything he does or touches. Its like your at a party any everyone there says, " It was a great Party until Chris showed up!"

Interesting thing is that Doctor implies that he created his TARDIS and perfect it's design, yet later in new-who it is shown that he stole TARDIS (or TARDIS stole him). Even in later episodes Rani and Master has their own TARDIS-es which would be problematic if Doctor's was one of the kind.
