Victoria homeless camp a symptom of B.C.'s broken housing market 

A Far Left Mayor literally told Homeless in Canada come here will look after you. *Homeless camp outside of courts started this* 1 person in camp was from Victoria..dumped the lot into the Old Baptist retirement home on Johnson st (great idea to put drug users in center of town Lisa.) It is unsafe to walk around at night now.

7 years later.... it's worse than ever. Obviously very little interest in dealing with this issue in any real way.

I'm Canadian and lived in Victoria. The cost of living has always been too damn high. Wages are low and it's only great to live there if you have a good pension. Rents are outrageously expensive.

Mentally and physically handicapped addicted homeless people who want to be freed from that lifestyle and are willing to work, but can’t, should be helped. However the majority are able bodied and not willing to work. Offer them a job and see what they say. Yet they demand that the government take care of them. How can I get past this and help them out..I can’t.

They have solved their homeless problem by dumping them on other communities. Time for Victoria to take more of it's share of the homeless problem!

i sympathize believe me....or don't, i dont read responses. i remember back in 1986 the government of BC saying they needed more foreogn investment and to me that's where it started. it's one thing if someone is addicted to something & can't find housing, it's quite another that working people can't find housing. empty house tax is a good start, a decade late but a start

On a Sunday morning in March 2016 our family decided we wanted to visit the human beings residing in Victoria's Tent City. Both my children were excited and rose early to bake several dozen cookies and write letters with scripture passages and hearts. We drove into Victoria, parked and walked into Tent City. Immediately several occupants greeted us as they were moved in sensitivity to the fact that we clearly were unsure of where to go. Two young men kindly accompanied my two young children and myself to the "sacred fire" and introduced us, hastily brushing off chairs and offering us a place to sit in the warmth of the fire. My children eagerly gave one of the elders their bags of cookies and letters. Another gentleman asked me if our family would stand alongside them and have our photograph taken. Our family was happy to oblige and we all stood smiling in solidarity. At this point another fellow approached me and offered a pair of new shoes as he had noticed that they might be a good fit for me. Our family stayed and talked, sharing the love we know as a family because God first loved us(John 4:19). My children and myself will always remember the kindness, sensitivity, and generosity of those in Victoria's Tent City. It was the most hospitable, and safe place to have church. Thank you and blessings on you all.

Like many countries, property price in Canada are made up by people like developers and real estate agents. In reality, they does not worth half of its current price. The only genuine reason for property price to go up in this planet is lack of land, and Canada has tons of land.

What's the problem; just offer free housing for everyone and by increasing yet again the minimum wage, they can furnish and decorate it.

Victoria causes it's own problems then cries about it

What a bunch of crap. There will always be homelessness. The housing market does not create homelessness. Oh yeah, that's right, I want to live in beautiful Victoria NDP and maybe downtown Vancouver by English Bay, that's my right? Hey if I'm homeless why not move to the best climate and no more freezing in winter. Great handouts in BC. Better tent cities, even the largest right beside the Vancouver police station where there have been multiple shootings
